Same Old...Or is it?

So the school year is officially underway and I would have to say, from a teacher's perspective, this year looks promising. I am hoping that as the processes and procedures of the class become more familiar there will be a great independent learning spirit in the English classroom. Take a moment and reflect on this first week. What were your expectations? Are you surprised by anything? Is it the same old song or is this year going to be different for you?

The first weak of school was pretty good. I expected most of the things we did. I was not suprised by anything that happened so far and i think this year will be different. I think this because it is different teachers i am in some harder classes than last year like college prep and spanish 2. I think i will do good and i hope that i have a good school year.

The first week of school was pretty good. I didn't really expect anything different than last. I wasn't surprised by anything and this year will probably be similiar to last year.

Coming into 8h grade I heard a lot of intimidating things. I heard how hard it was, how much homework we got, and basically how much worse it was than 7th grade. Maybe it was because my teachers last year worked my butt off to prepared me, but I don't think 8th grade is as bad as it was worked up to be. Well so far.

The first week of school was great. A lot of the things we did so far I was expecting. This year, Language Arts looks like it will be a lot harder than last year because I think we will have a lot more homework than last year and we are also preparing for high school. I think this will be a very demanding year.

Coming into 8th grade this year I was told that it would be a hard year with Language Arts especially. I was told that it was going to be a lot more homework then 7th grade and that it would be more projects and more expected of you. The first week of school was good. Just like all the other first weeks but I enjoyed it. I think that this is going to be a great year.

I really expected 8th grade to be arduous and very time-consuming. I also anticipated that there would be an eccentric feeling, since I am new to the school. However, I made lots of friends and the first few weeks of school was pretty fun. I believe this will be a great year.

My first few weeks in the 8th grade was a very exciting week for me. I met a lot of new friends and met all of my new teachers. This year is the year where i have to work the hardest, study, and use my time wisely. I have a lot of new classes like study hall, tech ed, and french1. All of my classes are harder but if I put my mind to it, I will do a great job. I personally think this year is my year.

My first week at school was definitely what I anticipated. The only thing that I didn't expect was to have assessments the following week! I know that they were just to see where each of us are as students, but I didn't know that they would come this early in the year! I feel that these few weeks have certainly been interesting and I can't wait to see what's next in all of my classes.

I was surprised on the first week of school because I didn't think that we would jump right into the writing process. I have good hopes for this year. My main focus is to keep on top of my homework, projects, and doing my best to improve my writing skills. I can't wait to see how this year turns out.

I think the first week was pretty ordinary. For example all the excruciatingly painful speeches, the seating charts, finding classes and getting lost, all that kind of thing. But so far i've heard that 8th grade is supposed to be the best year, so that's what i'm hoping for. It does seem fun though.

i agree with want anna said, the first week was ordinary. I liked how you did some writing things the first week, it got our minds thinking again and not just listening to speeches and rules like the other classes. From what i've heard 8th grade is challenging yet a lot of fun. i'm looking forward to this year!

This year started out the same. We sat there and were lectured on rules, what we were going to learn about this year, and we filled out papers about us. As we got into the second week though I was surprised about how fast we started getting quizzes and HW. I have heard a lot of good things about my teachers and I really like them so far. I'm hoping the rest of the year turns out to be fun.

I really thought being an 8th grader was double the work..its really not.The first week was ordianary. I liked how you made us do little writing things to get our minds running again from the "summer sickness". Im not really suprised by anything YET. This years gonna be alot different..different rules, teachers, friends, cant wait. Excited but ya know, its school:P

I know this year is really going to be different. the classes last year were far easier than this year. but i am ready for whats to come. i sort of liked last year better than this year. i think that i will adapt well, just like last year. also, the first week was so/so. we didnt really take a lot of time talking about all the first time things. like coming back to school, and the rules. we just got started on work right away. but overall. i think that this year is going to be just fine. =)

So far, 8th grade has been really actually not that bad. I'm pretty sure this will be my best year! I feel that this year i will learn a lot more different strategies in Language Arts, but also in other subjects. I can't wait for the rest of next year(:

This year for me was not what i expected.
i had the idea that we could sorta slack off like we did last year, but clearly thats not true.Even though its not what i expected i think it will be a great yeat and i will learn a lot, and be very successful!

I'm discovering that this is year is and increase in work level, but not by an unexpected amount greater. It's fitting the capability of the students and reasonable is still reasonable. It is same old to me but according to many of the comments it is not leaving much room for slack. Although I was shocked that we would be only using pen in Language Arts class.

This year for me is pretty much exactly what I expected. I have had friends on this team and they said that there will be a lot more work than the previous years. That is what I was expecting and is what I am getting out of this year so far. This year I've learned a lot. You do need to put forth a lot more work and studying. The Commander Team seems like it will really get you prepared for highschool.

this year i definently have to work harder...no more slacking like in seventh grade

i was surprised by how much work we have this year. this year is going to be alot different for me because last year the teacher didn't assign that many things for work but this year i have twice as much work, and some of it is alot harder too.

For me, 8th grade seems alot harder than 7th. It started out the same in the beginning of the year like last year, but later on it got harder and harder with alot more HW. Also, no offense Mr. Horvath but I get twice as much HW from Language Arts than the other 8th grade classes.

At the beginning of the school year, i was worried that 8th grade was going to be much harder than any other grade, but I've realized that the teachers are just trying to prepare you for high school so you know what to expect, so therefore they treat you like adults and expect you to be responsible.

The lead is probably the most important part of a story. They get the reader to ask a question to themselves whether or not they should keep reading or if it’s in there interest. If the lead is good and you like the topic + it asks you a question you read on.

I felt like I was going to fall under with all the work you give us during the week but I finally realized it's just making us more independent and it will pay off in Masuk or wherever we go..

The lead to me is one of the most important parts in a writing piece. I feel this way because without a good lead the reader isn't hooked and when a reader isn't hooked they aren't into the book meaning they don't have questions going through their head to make them want to read on.
