What did you learn?

After completing (or nearly completing) your Sci-Fi book, what from that novel can you take and apply to your life?  What did you learn about science, technology, progress or people from this book?

From this book I learned to stick with people and stay close to them. ALso not to drive them away or get driven away because in this book the human race split into 2 races. And it taught me about science too because how we were split apart. This is all that i have learned from The Time Machine.

One thing that I learned from this book is to stay calm, even during an emergency. This is shown because when Ellie would lose her temper and yell at someone, nothing good would happen and nothing would get done. On the other hand when Homer stayed calm and thought, then he was able to think of plans that helped to keep them safe. Another example is when Lee was shot in the leg and Robyn saved him. If she had gotten nervous instead of staying calm and carrying him to safety then they both would probably have died! So, this book shows that staying calm is a good thing during an emergency can keep you and the people around you safe.

I learned about this technology that did things for the people like to fix satellites in space, fix windows and to help elderly people. I also learned that the radiation from nuclear weapons will give people multiple tumors at once. It will kill the persons after a couple of days because of multiple tumors and it will just destroy the brain and stop all of the systems in the body causing tut down. He body to shut down.

After reading Matched by Allie Condie, I have learned that no matter how much I think I can benefit from my actions, I might be mentally and physically harming the people I love. I learned this because the main character in my book, Cassia, thought that sneaking around with Ky would benefit her, but really she was putting her family in danger, breaking her future husbands heart, and putting Ky in more danger than he already was. From Cassias's experiances, I have learned to think about my actions and how the may affect the people I love before I conduct them.

After completing Jurassic Park, by Michael Crichton, I learned that you have to take un thought of precautions for inventing something new. John Hammond took precautions for what he expected, not what he didn't expect. I also learned, that bio engineering is at a fast-paced progress. It can produce a lot of money, but it can be very dangerous at the same time. That's why I think you should expect the unexpected.

I agree with you about staying calm in emergencies because if youre mad or scared then you could panic and something could go wrong. In nay situation its good to stay calm cause say youre in a bank robbery and cry, the robbers may take you as a hostage. This is why I agree with you to stay calm at all times.

I can take out what the author was trying to tell us . He wanted us to realize the dangers of genetically engineering creatures. Malcolm who is one of the characters in our book said that you can't bring dinosaurs back to life and not expect them to escape or do things that might hurt people. There is a reason that dinosaurs are extinct and it is not part of nature to bring them back. This will throw everything out of whack and people will get hurt. They took precautions with the dinosaurs but they were not enough because the dinosaurs still escaped and hurt too many many people. This was a bad idea from the beginning but they were blinded by money so they could not see all sides of the situation.

I learned from this book, not to judge people by what they look like. I learned this because in this book there are two sides, Uglies, and Pretties. All of the pretties make fun of what the uglies look like, so I learned not to judge others by their appearance. I also learned not to change yourself to be like everybody else. In this book, all of the pretties look the same, but they are all beautiful. Tally wants to become pretty to look like everybody else, but Shay-her best friend- doesnt want to be pretty, for that exact reason. So from this, I learned not to try and be like everybody else. In conclusion I learned a lot of life lessons, that I can apply to my life now.

I think that the novel, "Tomorrow, When the War Began" shows that life is full of decision making, and sometimes the choices can be life-threatening or at least very important. For example, at the very end of the book, the friends (Ellie, Fionna, Corrie, Robyn, Homer, Lee, and Kevin) had to decide who was going to go with Corrie to the hospital since she had been shot. The plan was to drive her there, honk the horn, and run away. That was a big decision. It was a big decision because they all love Corrie very much and were afraid to leave her. But, 6 people is better then 5. That is why I think that the book is teaching us about making imprtant life decisions.

After reading my book, Life As We Knew It, I learned some things about life. One of which is that you shouldn't take anything for granted in life. This is true because in my book, life seems as if it is coming to an end, and now the characters are cherishing everything they have, but when things were back to normal, they were not taking in what they had. I learned a little bit about science. This is because of the asteroid hitting the moon and its effect on how if the moon was closer to Earth, tragedies could strike. (Such as tsunamis, volcanoes, and earthquakes) This is what I learned from my book, Life As We Knew It.

Something i can take from my book and apply to real life is that people can change. I took this from the maze runner because in the book because before the maze Thomas built it and even went around killing people but in the maze he would have never done that stuff and regrets the choices he made. This is important in life because it is good to give people second chance if they make mistakes or you can't find out if they have changed.

From my book, World War Z, I learned to accept life as it is and to be happy for what I have. I learned this from my book because in World War Z, all of the people had what they loved, their families and friends, taken from them, and turned into zombies. This is because the zombies wanted pure human flesh, and they carried a disease that would turn you into a zombie if you were bitten of survived an attack.

One thing I learned from this book is to love the way you look. In Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, everyone thinks they are ugly until the get the operation at age 16 that turns them into a pretty. Every ugly points out all the flaws in their self and this is bad because it lowers their self esteem. None of them think they are good enough until they have received the operation. The operation changes their entire appearance and they don't look like themselves anymore. They finally love their bodies, when the body they love isn't even theirs. This made me realize that I should love my body or I'm going to have big self esteem issues and that I'm going to feel like I am never good enough.

I read the book Jurassic Park. It taught me about a theory called the Chaos Theory. This a theory that tells you about everything will eventually if involves a living thing. This is like how a zoo will eventually have some of it's animal. This becomes out of they're control.

@edemace. My book can somewhat relate to yours. I also agree to stick with others, because in my book, Tally and Shay were best friends until Tally decided to betray Shay so that she could become pretty. This relates to your book, because you said that you learned to stay close to other people. In conclusion, I learned to stay close to friends, and not let them go like Tally did to Shay.

In this book i learned that sci-fi and other specltical science is based of thwe imagination of people. In the book the time machine A man goes into the future and learns about how the world will be thousands of years from now. THe fact that someone can travel trew time has always been a fantasy for both old and modern scientists. This show that sci-fi is often thought up by science thAt the world wishes was true.

After completing my Science Fiction book,"Tomorrow, When the War Began" I learned about people is that when you are departed from someone you care about or love for a good amount of time changes the way the person acts towards others because they know they only have those people to get along, and they will begin to feel like family and treat others differently. Like in the book, Homer started acting really charitable to Fi(Fiona), Corrie, Kevin, Lee, Chris and Robyn. Therefore, I learn about how other act towards others when lost or departed from ones they love because Homer started acting very compassionate to everyone else when he was decamp from his family in Wirrrawee.

After almost completeing my novel, I have learned from it that everyone should always keep in touch with your friend and family. I think this is the lessson from the book because William goes off to a space war and while only three months have one by for him, down on Earth, a few years are going by. When william finnaly gets back to Earth, everything has changed. He doesnt know anyone, all his friends are gone, his brother is on the moon and his mother is dead.

I have learned so much from my from my book Matched. But one thing that I have learned is no matter what you are faced you should always be true to yourself. In my book Cassia was always unsure about many things and made a chose on to share them. I feel that keeping her feeling about Ky inside. She is not being considering others. She was matched with Xander and that I who she is supposted to be will. This book has taught me do many things about life in general.

I agree that staying calm during an emergancy is important because if you don't stay calm, then something can go seriously wrong. This would be very bad because if you wern't calm, you could get hurt.

YouJustGotCerved said...

@Devon S.
I agree with you because I also agree that if you stay calm in an emergency, the result will be better. This is because, for example one day my day got a metel hanger stuck in his eye. I started freaking out and since I was freaking out, I didn't hear what he wanted me to do which was call my mom. If I had stayed calm, then I would've called my mom sooner and the hanger would be out of his eye sooner. This is why I agree with you.

From reading this book i learned that the author was trying to teach you to expect the unexpected and prepare for it. The scientists and the military only prepared for what they thought the dinosaurs would do but in reality they were capable of much more and that is why they did a lot of damage.

I agree with Devon S. because in my book, World war Z, people should stay calm and worry about themselves. If they worry about any friends or anyone else than you could be dangerous and life threatening. Some people in my book cared for neighbors and were infected by the zombies. People were killed and others were safe for the time.

I learned, from my book The Tomorrow Code, that it is important to work together. I found this evident in the book because there is a natural disaster occurring in their atmosphere, and Rebecca, Tane, and Fatboy work together well to try to stop it. I noticed that they don't get far when they are not working together. They encode messages from the future, escape the fog, and try to put an end to it all together. I have not finished by book yet, so I don't know how it ends, but by what I read so far, I found it very important to work together.

My science Fiction book is 1984. This book really helped me become aware of the potential outbreak of power in the government. In my opinion George Orwell's purpose for creating this novel was to make people aware of the potential government has to become a psychotic, over-controlling government. In this book they use the analogy, if the government says that 2+2= 5 then 2+2=5. After reading this book i have become aware of my government, and have learned to appreciate our government, for we could have a bad one like 1984's government.
I also learned that I should be listening to my surrounding. In the story tele screens watch your every move, and this is kind of like society today, with judgements made every day.

In the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy I learned about the coneitedness and ignorance of man. From now I realize that we all think that we are smat and knowledgeable, and that we are the most important beings in the universe. This book humbled me and made me realize how little I know. I also think of animals in a different light and I realize that men are not the kings of earth and they, the poor dumb commonfolk. From now on, I will respect animals more and will realize that I am not overly important, I am just an unimportant lifeforms in a sea of beings living on planet occupating scores of galazies.

I learned a lot about power and belief in this book, and how they connect. In 1984 the party has power over all the government workers. By erasing the past they force them to believe everything they say. Power In this book, is used very effectively, yet it is abused. Although only the people reading the book know it was abused, for the people in the book, do not know how the past was, and how people had freedom of speech, and thought. Even though the party will not be taken down, I would not want to lead a group as they would. This book taught me to respect the power I am given and use it effectively, yet not forcefully. Full belief in the power of people will never work.

I learned that technology can't save everything. In my book the scienist could help EVA stey alive but she died after bieng 24 years old. The technology didn't fail itjust didn't save her to the scientist hope. True.. it did save her from dying at the age of 13 but she ended up dying 11 years later.

I think the purpose of the story is that humans will always progress in the quality of life and will always find a way of improving it somehow. Also, it is how humans are more intelligent then any other animal, at some point in time apes leaped forward in evolution and developed new ways to survive.

Ben H said...

I learned a lot about progress. I saw a lot about how the author, Arthur C. Clarke, pictured how people would be like in the future, with spaceships traveling to Jupiter and Saturn, and how possibly, humans would transfer their minds into machines, and then into pure energy.

From the book "The Andromeda Strain", I learned to never get yourself into things you don't know about. This is because when a satellite crashed in the small town of Piedmont, a doctor opened it up, and it released a deadly organism that killed almost everyone in the town. The doctor had no knowledge whatsoever on space and space capsules, yet he still opened it. Therefore, I shouldn't be getting my self into things I don't know about because it might cause trouble.

I learned from, "A Wrinkle In Time," that you cannot just jump into something in life, but that you need to learn about it first. In the book, the group of scientists decide that tessering (time traveling) is okay to try without learning about the topic first. They decide to send one of their members into time with no info on the topic, and of course, he dies! Once they now he died, you would think that they would do some research before trying again, but instead, they send another man into time. Little did the scientists know that this man would be missed, and that innocent kids would go after him and endanger their lives aswell. That makes me think that the message was that you can't jump right into something because if they had done some research on tessering first, maybe they wouldn't have lost the first guy, and would not have had to send the second guy who was then followed by kids. Therefore, since the scientists went right intosomething unknown, I think that the message of the story that I learned is that you caanot jump into something you know nothing about.

Ryan35 said...

From my book, The Andromeda Strain, there were many things to learn. For example, some scientists were trying to find extraterrestrial life for an experiment and when a satellite they sent crashed, a dangerous alien virus was released and killed an entire village. There were only two survivors. This shows to not be too curious or it could be bad. Curiosity killed the cat. The Wildfire team also made many mistakes that could have been very bad. This showed to never overlook anything.

What I learned about life in the book Tomorrow When The War Began is to alway sbe ready for something to happen i think this because in the book a group of 7 kids were hanging out and the little they had lived in got bombed and the kids ran away from their homes and had to survive in a woods they had called Hell. But if they were ready for something like this to happen, like today people practice for fires and for intruders. Then they could of been alot less worried than they were in the book.

From the book, The Andromeda Strain, I learned to not let the curiosity get the better of you. Also, I learned that you should think before you act. I learned this because in the book, the 4 scientists sent a satellite into space to find other life forms. Because of they're curiosity, they did this. But when the satellite returned, it brought back a tiny but deadly organism. This organism killed 46 people by itself. This shows that too much curiosity can be dangerous.

I learned that most people will do anything to save someone that they love. In the book siblings a five year-old named Charles Wallace and Meg nine years-old. Charles sacrificed himself to IT and Meg's dad left him behind and even after being frozen she still went back to save her younger brother.

What I learned from life is that "just because you are not trained to do something, doesnt mean that you aren't capable." In my book, Tommorrow When the War Began, Ellie and her friends need to in a few words, survive a war on their town. They have limited supplies to survive, like a few low caliber guns to defend themselves, some food, and clothing. My characters then go into town and gather supplies. This then results in the invaders finding them, but the search team, which includes Ellie and 2 of her friends, have to scare off the patrol by creating a makeshift bomb. In my book, there isnt really much science and technology involved. People did change throughout the course of the book. an example is Homer, one of Ellie's closest friends. he used to be a person who loved tricks, got into toruble a lot, and didn't exactly have the best grades. He then changes when he meets another one of Ellie's close friends, Fi. he then starts to like her and, well you do the math. He then becomes softer and thinks thing through more.

I learned that most people are ignorant of their mistakes. For example, in the book, they were trying to persuade the president into dropping an atomic weapon on piedmont arizona because they wanted to destroy the alien life there. This was a mistake because they later found that the alien life flourishes in the carbon dioxide and light rich environment after an atomic missle. They later frantically tell the president not to drop the weapon. They should have known this before they told the president, because if he agreed, they would have spread the alien disease all over the world.

I learned that when something goes wrong it's ok to ask for help.. I learned this because London had an extremely fatal disease called " Scarlet Plague " that could kill a man in 15 min. London decided they didn't need any help and could fix their problem theirselves. This disease soon took over their whole country and spreaded like lightning. Then it infected China, Japan, Russia, and finally the US. Billions of people died and only very very few people survived. This is why I learned that it is ok to ask for help when you have a problem

What I learned from my book, American Gods, is to really give people a chance because if you don't, you can miss out on something really important or never know the truth. Shadow never really gave Mr. Wednesday a chance to explain who he was and the whole time he could've known that Wedesday was a good. Also, he never gave Wednesday a chance to explain what he was doing here. Some people judge right away, completely not opening up to listen to them, and they could miss out on a lot og ==f good information.

I learned that many people will become brave or confident after a major event occurs. In my book "The Scarlet Plague", a great plague hits the world. During this time, many people tried to flee, but died in the process. After it had passed, many of the lower class people rose up an attempted to take control of the once rich people. Some succeeded. Other people risked their lives to save others from the plague. At one point, two men go out of a building to move two bodies that had the plague. They knew that they would not be let back in, but they went anyway.

After completing the book The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, I learned that some people can be effected by a parent's/intermediate family member's busy-ness. In my book, Henry DeTamble often dissapears due to time traveling, causing his wife, Clare DeTamble, to worry about him constantly, and not allow her to always be with him. Although, we probably won't be time traveling for a while, this still happens with people who are always at work; say Henry DeTamble was constantly dissappearing to work, then Clare would still be in the same situation. Therefore, I learned that it is pretty hard to adjust to someone you are close to's constant dissappearance.

From my book, "I Am Number 4", one thing I learned about life is that even when there doesn't seem like there is any, there is always hope because throughout this book Henri and Four have to fight the Mogadoriens and questions if it is even worth trying. One example is that, in the book's beginning, Four wonders how he will even be able to fight the Mogadoriens and try to restore Lorien. Henri, though, tells him that there will always be hope, even if there it is just a sliver left. Therefore, since in this book was about severing giving up hope, that is the lesson I learned.

Also, specialy with our age, we take, take, and take and don't even thank people for the wonderful things that we get from them.

I read the book, American Gods, and somehing that I learned is that you need to give people a chance or nothing will happen. This is because if Shadow did not trust Mister Wednesday and accept the job that he offered he would not meet the people he did and not find out more about himself that he never knew. It is also better for him because he somewhat had company because his wife died and he had all of the people he met to talk to him and definatly keep him busy. That is what I learned for my book.

He doesn't give up he fights for everyone he loves and he doesn't just give up on them.I learned that it is ok to be afraid, but you shouldn't let fear rule you. What I learned about people in this book is that people turn to alcohol in times of trouble, but it doesn't really help people in the end because it's just an illusion. I know this because alcohol relaxes you and makes you happy, and people use it for this reason. If you're really down, alcohol is a sure way to up your spirits. However, when people get drunk they do things because the alcohol makes them so relaxed they don't worry about the consequenses, so they kill people with guns and get into fights and light houses on fire (thanks, Scarlet Plague, for that vivid description). And IF they wake up later, they have a headache and are dehydrated. This proves that alcohol's happiness is an illusion and can't help anyone in the end.

None of the Loriens had time to prepare for the fight that would destroy life on their planet. Also John aka 4 had no time to say goodbye to Sarah when he left for his last day at school before the "mayhem". Lastly, John had no time to escape Ohio before the Mogadorians arrived. Therefore John and I learned to live life to the fullest because you never know what could come later that day!

After reading The Time Traveler's Wife, I learned that everything happens for a reason. In my book, the protagonist, Henry, has to be separated from his wife Clare, at random times. He has a disease called Chrono Displacement disease. It makes him disappear and appear at times, and he does not get to choose when or where this happens. He also does not get to choose when he comes back. It is sort of like time travel. It could take years, for instance, for him to come back and get to see Clare.

There were definetly some things that I have learned throughout the experience of reading I Am Number Four. One thing I learned is how to identify certain characteristics of author's craft such as imagery, literary devices, ect. I have also improved in responding to the text. This is an important skill when doing literature book clubs becasue you have to respond to the text all the time. Aother thing i learned is how to decribe a scene descriptively just like the author. This is important becasue a good author always decribes a scene descriptivly and using imagery makes you a good author. This is what i learned from this book!

I agree that it's okay to ask for help if something goes wrong because it's sometimes hard to do things by yourself. I know this because when I tried heating up chocolate syrup in the microwave, it ended up exploding. I tried cleaning it up by myself, but when I asked for help, the job got done a lot quicker than it would've without the help. Therefore, if something goes wrong, you should never be afraid to get help from someone else.

One thing that I will take from this book is that you need to enjoy every moment of your life, good and bad, because one day you won't have that any more. I learned this because Henry used to have a great life and he never appreciated it, then he started to time travel and all he wanted to do was go back to his old life. He was never happy with where he was, he always wanted more, he started to regret not absorbing and remembering it all. Since I have read this book I have made sure to enjoy every moment that I have with my friends, family, and strangers. Not only does this help you later in life but it also makes you happier right now. This is what I have learned from my book, The Time Travelers Wife.

I agree with you because you do need to know your enemy to conquer them. I know this because in my book, the Scarlet Plague, they finally found a cure for the disease. This was only accomplished after countless scientists studied the germ until they found its weakness. Scientists do this for real germs too. Tey would not know how to take care of it if they didn't know it's vunerabilities, so this is why you need to know your enemy in order to defeat it.

Lauren said...

After reading Life As We Knew It I learned that you should be happy with what you have at that time because you never know what's going to happen. In the story, Miranda losses her friend Sammi, and Megan. Also her mother lost Peter and Mrs. Nesbitt. Even though they all didn't die on the same day; Miranda and her family could have never guessed that the moon being out of orbit could cause this much of a problem. Something else that I learned was technology does play a big role in how we live. In this book the power was out for months and weeks and days. Even when the power came on it was only for a couple minutes. Miranda had to learn to eat canned foods, that was cold, and sleep in the sunroom so it was half way decent. Even though we went through about a week without power, that isn’t that hard compared to what Miranda went through.

Lauren said...

@LoganS I agree with you because when you get to know your enemies you find out their strengths and weaknesses. This would help you to be able to in this case kill them and they won't be expecting it. Therefore getting to know you enemies isn't always a bad thing and in the end they might not really be enemies.

I do not think that you right by saying that you should not trust anyone. I say this because if you don't trust anyone, you won't know what is right or what is wrong. Since I have read the Maximum Ride series, I can say that everyone in the flock has to trust each other at one point. For example, when Max leaves the flock to help the little girl from the older bullies, the flock has to trust her. They trust Max to not endanger them and later rejoin the flock. That is why I don't agree with you.

One thing I learned in my book, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, is to take risks and discover the undiscovered. One of the main characters, M. Aronnax and Captain Nemo take some very huge risks and discover something no man has ever seen before. Captain Nemo designed, built, and commanded the Nautilus, a submarine made in the late 1880's. He went on a submarine tour around the world with M. Aronnax, Ted Land, and Conseil. All of these characters took some huge risks in touring the ocean and staying on the submarine with Captain Nemo. They discovered different fish and octopi in the ocean and were the first to even explore the ocean.

After reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" I learned that some people will do anything to find adventure. Zaphod Beeblebrox was the character who showed this the most. He even stole the Heart of Gold, the fastest ship in the Universe just for the adventure. This is why some people really will do anything for greed.

Sir Awesome said...

I completely agree with you that "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" can humble you. I also read this book and it made me think of humans in a different light, particularly the part about us "really" being the third smartest beings on Earth. I thought this was very interesting (though it may not be true) and will make me be more considerate to the creatures that we share our planet with. Overall, I completely agree that this novel can humble you.

G-MAN said...

@Sir Awesome
I agree that some people will do anything for adventure because Zaphod lives for adventure. In the book Zaphod steals The Heart of Gold spaceship and becomes the most wanted criminal in all of the galaxies just so that he can experience the adventure of seeing Magrathea. Also, Ford Hitchikes around the galaxy for the adventure as well as the thrill of seeing new planets. He takes a big risk in doing this in order to feel adventorous. Next, when Zaphod was younger he wanted to rob a frieght spaceship for the adventure that comes with robbing such a heavily armed spacecraft knowing the risk that comes with doing so. Therefore, I agree that some people will do anything for adventure because Zahpod and Ford have lived their whole lives in search of adventure and have taken big risks in order to experience such adventures.

the book that I read was about a girl who crashes in a car and ends up in an irreversible comma. Her dad then turns to his research monkeys to give Eva a new body. In this new body Eva finds it hard to get used to but then finds herself protesting against putting chimps in overalls. What I learned from this book was that sometimes when people have no were else to turn, they often turn to science. for example, in my book Eva falls into her comma her dad then turns to his research chimps to give eva a new body. also, this happens in life now in the present. for example, when you get sick you turn to science (A.K.A a doctor) to get medicine. in some cases turning to science is good (like the medicine) and sometimes it can be bad (like in Eva's case).

I agree with you when you say, " I learned that everything happens for a reason." I agree with you because it happens in my book and in life. It's in my book because crazy things are happening to Earth and are leading into somethings that are good and bad. Also, it happens in life. This is true because when something tragic, bad, or even good, can lead into something better than what it was normally. That is why I agree with you.

I agree with you when you say that you should cherish every moment you live your life. Like you mentioned in your response above, the protagonist in your book lived a wonderful, but never realized how lucky he was. Kind of like the movie "It's a Wonderful Life". For these reasons I agree with you when you say that you should live every moment in yourlife like your last.

I learned that people must be themselves. You are the best you. In Ender's Game, Ender doesn't want to go to war or to be a killer but it turns out that that is who he is. And he is really good at it. Which goes along with the fact that you are the best you. If everyone lived this way, well then nobody would get made fun of. Once Ender realized that a killer was what he was, he accepted it (after a while). And once he accepted it, he realized that this is what he is, and ended up winning the war killing million's of buggers (bug-like aliens). That is why I found out that people must always be themselves.

I learned from this book that it is better to listen to what other people are saying instead of saying they are wrong all the time they may be right because Saba's little sister told Saba that she did not trust the pinches but Saba did not listen and made a deal to travel with the pinches but the pinches knocked them out with drugged soup and chained them.

I learned that you should be extremely careful with technology, and that you should own up the things you do. In the book that I read, Maximum Ride, a company called Itex created the Flock and now the flock has turned against Itex. Also, after the Flyboys chased Fang, Iggy, and Gasman, and destroyed the Hollywood sign, Itex blamed it on the Flock instead of blaming themselves.

Cav98 said...

I agree with sethblog that you should keep in touch with people you know. I think this because you never know when you are going to need other like WILLIAM in sethblog's book. If you keep in touch with the people you know you will never be stuck alone.

I've learned a few things from my science fiction book. One of the most apparent things would be just how muchwe take things for grantite in the present. In my book the environment has been destroyed by a dust that deteriorates what ever it comes in contact with, simple things such as peaches are a rarity, and animals have been almost completely wiped out. In the present I haven't seen alot of people outside, just enjoying the environment, being greatful over what-seems-to-be-simple foods, and other simple objects. And some people are actually involved with animals and their slow extinction in the process of trying to prevent it. But all in all I really haven't seen any poeple really go out of their way to appreciate these things, which makes me as though this is the most important thing I've learned from the book I've read.

After almost completing my SCI-FI book, I have learned that progress can get you far in life. The novel I read was The Tomorrow Code. When Tane, Rebecca, and Footboy find out what the codes they receive on their computer means, they make progress. This is because they get one step closer to finding out about where the fog is coming from, what it is, and where it is coming from. In order for them to do this, they worked together and never gave up which is giving them accurate results. This is what I learned about progress and people.

You said that you took away a purpose of taking risks, but have you seen people take risks outside of your book? Or have you taken any risks? Many things people take away from books are things they haven't done or don't usually do. Like for me I don't uasually appreciate simple objects, or fruit like peaches to the extent that characters in my book do but after reading my book I feel as though I should appreciate everything I have now more than I did or do. So after reading your book do you think you will be taking more risks?

@ Sarah G I agree with you that everyone should enjoy their life and not be so greedy by wanting more and more. I know this because this happens in real life. In the MLB, NFL, and NBA, all the players always want to be better and make more money. They are not happy enough with who and what they have now, so some of them cheat and take steroids. Then they get caught and their life is worse than when it was before steroids. Therefore, everyone should enjoy their life before it goes by too quickly and everyone shouldn't keep wanting more in their life, or it might turn out worse than how it started.

I agree with you @ZAMZAM that it is important to work together. I read the same book and I noticed in even the third chapter that in order for the Tane and Rebecca to figure out what the codes they were receiving on their computers, they worked together and figured it out. My book was 1984 and it really opened my eyes as to how people can brainwash you in an instant. Like the government in this book, if they claim 2+2=5, then there is no questioning it. It made me wonder if I'm brainwashed. But can somebody really the when they're being brainwashed? I mean, if you think this person is always right and they tell you something false, you just automatically believe it without question. You think they're telling you the truth, but in reality it can all be a big fat lie. So this book made me realize that everyone is brainwashed by somebody to some level, but at the same time nobody really knows they are brainwashed simply by the fact that they are worshiping this one person that the think will tell them the truth every time. I think 1984 taught me to be careful who and what you trust and believe, because those so called facts can really hurt you in the long run.

AVgleek17 said...

I think you are right. Based upon the government Winston is faced with, we should be grateful of our government today. The power we give to people is really a big risk. I thinks e need to be careful as to whom we give it to and make sure they won't take that power for granted. This is proven on the book. The party is so controlling, even more controlling than pour government today. So although we should be careful as to who we give power to, we should also be grateful that we have a moderately decent government today compared to the one in this novel.

After reading the book, The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, I learned that if I want to be proud of my actions, and succeed in life, then I have to be willing and take chances. Because Thomas woke up in a maze one day, and wanted to get out really bad. So, when he found out he was a Runner, he tried very hard to find a way to escape and he ended up finding a secret code, which they think will get them out.

@YouJustGotCerved I agree with you. I believe that even though you think you are going to benefit from your actions, you can actually be harming somebody. But, if she really doesn’t look good, that can harm the kid because others can bully her. That is why I agree with you.

And my reward for that was: victory. So that being my evidence I do believe that if you want to thrive in ANYTHING you need to be willing to take risks and chance.

I agree with you that it it important to work together. If no one helped each other out now and then, we would all have issues that we may have problems solving. Many times in life, you deal with issues you have no idea how to deal with, but other people can. If you don't know the answer, maybe someone else does. If someone helps you, you should help them in return. If everyone does this, the world would be better because everyone would be working together and helping each other out, peacefully. Therefore, since the world is a better place when people work together, I agree with you that people need to work together in life.

I agree with matt because after reading 1984, I became more aware of all of the power our government has over us. "This book really helped me become aware of the potential outbreak of power in the government." If our government fell into the wrong hands, we could easily end up like 1984. I now appreciate the government we have now even more because of the fairness they give us compared to 1984. If the government tells you something that something is 100 percent true. I now am more aware of our government and are thankful that it is the government we have.

After reading my book, I became more aware that you should always work together with the people that you are faced with. In my book, if John didn't work together with Mark (even though he didn't want to), John would have died. Mark saved John's life multiple times and so did Six. Working together with people makes it harder to be overcome and harder to be beaten. If you were by yourself, you would be beaten much easier and you will have no chance against your opponents. Therefore, working together with your partners will really help with your predicament.

whencupcakesattack said...

I agree with you. I agree with you because in my book, if Henri, John, Mark, Sarah, and Bernie Kosar didn't work together, they would never beat the Mogadorians and save the Garde race. When they weren't working together or when they were completely alone, they literally didn't get anything done and they couldn't stand a chance. I think that working together is very important in these cases.

I also read the book I Am Number Four, and I can agree that can apply to a persons' life. You said that, " I can apply that, it is important to never give up until the end. In my book John is fighting for his life and he has the thought of just giving up, but he remembers Sarah and Sam. He doesn't give up he fights for everyone he loves and he doesn't just give up on them." You also said that, "I learned that it is ok to be afraid, but you shouldn't let fear rule you. In my book John is afraid of losing his life and having Sarah lose her life while fighting but he doesn't let fear rule him and fights to make sure he keeps his loved ones save." Therefore, since I also noticed these things in the book, I agree that there are many matters in the book that can apply to someones' life.

This also happened in a book I read, The Count of Monte Cristo, where a man named Ferdanan was in love with a girl that Edward Dantes was going to marry, so he wrote a note to the police saying that Edward was a traitor, but now Edward is out looking for revenge. So this book also shows that your actions can hurt other people even if it helps you gain something.

Although Captain Nemo, one of the story's main characters is very mysterious, we know he was driven out of land and into the sea because of cold-hearted humans. Therefore, since Captain Nemo was forced to leave his natural habitat of land because of the harshness of humans, this book made me realize human cruelty.
