Welcome to Sci-Fi

After watching that short film last week (A science fiction classic), I hope you got to see that science fiction has been a driving part of entertainment for a long time.  From books to comics to films, science fiction has always captured the imaginations of authors, creators and audiences.  Do you like science fiction...it could be books, movies whatever....

I like science fiction because it is very interesting. The Hunger Games was a fantastic book and that I believe is a science fiction. The Hunger Games is a great science fiction book I would read over and over again because of the differences between our world and the book's world. Science fiction is an interesting topic.

She likes science fiction because it is interesting. I agree with her because it's a kind of book that makes you want to read more. It is a great combination between fiction and interesting new science. This why i find science fiction to be so interesting.

I used to hate science fiction but I love it now. Like hunger games it was so much fun. It's so much better then fantasy. I believe becuase its realistic and fun. With fanatsy it's talking animals and wizards with no meaning to real life.

@ Emma/Emms...

I agree with your opinion becuase you do learn something new when you read it. Like I'm reading this book called Eva she becomes parlyzed and the doctors turn her into a monkey. Reading science fiction books teaches something new everytime you read it.

I like Sci-Fi a lot. The reason I like Si-Fi is because when watching a movie its just so high tec and interesting and also so cool looking. Also in books They have things that most people would never think of. Like the movie tron, I thought that was gonna be so stupid when my mom forced me to watch because she wanted to see the difference between that and the origianl. But it actually was pretty cool. I mean just the thought of being able to get a awsame motor cycle from mid air is just cool. But anyway the point is that the reason i like Si-Fi is because its so interesting to watch.

I agree with Emms. The reason I agree with you because it is a mix between fiction and new and upcoming science. But It shows you what cool stuff we could possibly make in the future. Also, a book with cool sounding stuff is gonna keep you into the book. Its gonna want to make you read more. I think this because its so cool and give you somthing to read.

I kind of like science fiction, but to mean it really depends on what the story, book, magazine etc... is about. I would read it like right in the book clubs we have to read a science fiction book and I am reading " MaximumRide"

I agree with sweet because it is interesting but as I said before it depends on what it is. This is because I might not like some of the kinds of science fiction books.

I honestly hate sci-fi for the fact that it isn't interesting. This is because I want to see the true and rough side of everything someones per say true colors. In sci-fi you never see that because it is to caught up in the aspect of false science preferences and is very explainable which for readers like me can annoy me for the fact that I want cold, hard facts. So therefore I dislike sci-fi things because they don't give anything that is really graspable for us.

Man on the Moon said...

I don't agree with any of you because you don't learn anything and it isn't interesting. I think this because the sci-fi books are so predictable which makes them less interesting. Also since everything is completely fictional and there is no real moral/theme what could you possibly learn. So there is c;ear;y no reason for reading a sci-fi book because they are boring and not helpful

I love science fiction books because it has the fantastic magical sort of element that comes with fantasy but also seems that it could really happen. Fantasy is one of my favorite genres because of the amazing things that can happen. There are mystical worlds of magic and characters who go on epic quests or fight diabolical antagonists who threaten to end the world. In science fiction you can see many of the same elements such but instead of magic there is science. A character does not cast a spell on someone, they can shoot a laser gun, you do not create a spell to travel through time, you can make a time machine! What science fiction has over fantasy is that it could happen. Normally, science fiction books are supposed to contain things that could actually happen given our current understanding of physics. Also many science fiction books although set in the future contain settings very similar to ours with only a few changes. Such books are interesting to read becuase it makes me feel like that could happen to me. I love dystopians like this in which there is a focus on the workings of a currupt government and its falling through the strength of the opressed people. In conclusion, I am a big fan of science fiction because it satisfies me with its fantasy like thrills and becuase it is what occurs is realistic or possible.

@Sweet and @Emma
I agree with you both that science fiction is interesting because the technology in it or the governments featured are so amazing and foreign to us. To me science fiction is one of the most interesting genres because of all of the technology in it. In the book Little Brother I learned alot about technology and computers in what can happen. In this there was also a dystopian element which I love which was a corrupt Homeland Security. Books such as The House of The Scorpion and the Ender's Game the sort of technology is mind boggling and brings forth an interesting aspect. I have learned alot from series like STORM in which a group of young teenagers use all of this next generation technology which is set to come out in several years. What is special about is is at the end of the book the author explains all of the technology feautred and what stage in development it is and if it is already being tested or used . In, conclusion I agree that science fiction is interesting because of all of the technology featured and I also agree that you can learn about technology from sci-fi.

I agree with Kayleigh because Si-Fi was boring and I honestly tried avoiding it but now, besides fiction it's my 2nd favorite book Genera.

If you were wondering what changed my mind about the whole Si-Fi book genera then it was the book called, Maximum Ride. I am in love with the book and the author. James Patterson has a unique writing style. It's different because he uses vocabulary that I've never heard of before. I think that it's important that every author has his/her own writing style so you can remember that specific author.

I love science fiction, its my favorite kind of book, but the graphics are awsome!

Anirbas said...

I don't have a big opinion of science fiction in general. Some science fiction books are really good, actually most of my favorite books are science fiction books. But some are really dull and boring. I can't generalize the genre, because it really depends on who is writing the book, and what specifically the book is about. Because there is so much variation of sci-fi, I don't have one single opinion of it.

Anirbas said...

I do NOT agree with Man on the Moon at all. He says that science fiction is very focused on the made up, yet science-related ideas, and that is what makes it boring. But this is not true for all sci-fi books! For example, I LOVED The Hunger Games, which was a book that took place in the future, and does have a lot of advanced medicine and technology in it, but it is not a boring book, and it is not about it being in the future, the book is mostly about the fight between Katniss (the narrator and main character) and the government. Actually, it is very easy to forget it is in the future. And there are many books like this one, which are not very strong sci-fi, but are science fiction books still. Because of this, I think it is wrong to generalize and say that all science fiction books are very science related, because while some definitely are, not all of them are, and they are not all boring!

science fiction games are the best. my porsonal favorits are starwars and pokemon!

I think that science fiction books are great! They have great story lines and they all have plot that are well developed because they have to make sense and seem possible in some way. Also Science fiction movies are great because they have cool special effects.

Matt W. said...

@panthers502 I agree with you that Maximum Ride was an amazing science fiction book. One of the first i read was Maximum Ride and from there I read more and more and I loved them.

I like Sci-Fi because it is fantasy with realistic science involved. In science fiction books there will be a problem and they would explain that problem by using some sort of theory on why it happened. For example if there are aliens invading, they can say in a far away galaxy global warming happened and all the water dried out so they had to flee to earth to get water.

CandyS. said...

I truly enjoy science fiction because it lets my imagination create and explore marvelous images and concepts in my mind. For example, the movie Star Trek that came out in 2009 shows how two objects could go through black holes, and reappear in different places at different points in time. What makes it so intriguing is that it explains the idea well enough that it seems realistic, yet gives the brain enough margin to conjure their own explanation as to what exactly happened and why the outcome was what it was. Therefore, I love reading science fiction because it lets my "creative juices" flow, and allows me to visualize concepts in my own way.

I love science fiction. I love it because most of them have to do with things related to computers, robots, and time travel. This is kind of like the stuff they teach at S.T.E.M.

Devon S. said...

I love most science fiction books because they are very interesting and usually teach a lesson and say something about people over all. On the other hand, when it comes to sci-fi movies some can be super cheesy. When you read a science fiction book you can imagine what happens, but when you see a science fiction movie some of the costumes can look really fake, mostly when it comes to alien costumes. Therefore, I like reading sci-fi books a lot, but I think the movies could be skipped.

@Man on the Moon
I disagree with you because right now I am reading Tomorrow, When the War Began, and it has not been boring yet. You said, " it is to caught up in the aspect of false science preferences", but this book isn't even about science, it's about a girl who had her town invaded and everyone is being help captive! So, it's actually really interesting and it is very exciting. Perhaps you read a boring science fiction book once and thought all were like that, but most that I have read are actually really interesting and fun to read.

I love science fiction. They are usually very interesting to read and amazingly captivating. They always have lots of descriptions in it and very clear details. One of my favorite sci-fi books are the Hunger Games trilogy. I consider them science-fiction, because they don't strike me as realistic fiction or fantasy. There is a lot of action in these books and they are very interesting. These books are real page-turners. Most of these books are highly interesting and has an advanced vocabulary. All of the sci-fi books that I have read are very fun to read, and this is personally, my favorite book genre.

@Devon S.
I totally agree with you. Sci-fi books are very interesting and fun to read. Most of the time I am not a huge fan on the movies because they don't look very realistic when it relies on the supernatural costumes. For aliens and such, they don't really capture what you might picture them as. In the book, you can unleash your imagination and picture the characters as anything you want. That is why I personally prefer to read the books over watching the movies.

I do like science fiction books because they are so unpredictable. In science fiction books you can never tell what will happen (unless you read ahead of course) next. For example, in the book Maximum Ride, Max has been searching for her mom for more than six years. Then, all of a sudden someone tells her their her mom! You could never have predicted that!

alcatrazjail said...

@whencupcakesattack I agree with you. They are very fun and interesting to read and they draw you in. Once you start a science fiction book you can't put it down. They are very descriptive and always keep you on your feet.

I do like science fiction a lot. It is probably my favorite genre. I love science fiction because it is interesting how a lot of authors picture what life would be like as a different species, in the future, on a different planet, etc.

@CandyS
I agree with you. I agree because I also think that Sci Fi lets me explore different concepts in my mind. I also think that that is what science fiction is trying to show us.

Grace S. said...

I actually enjoy reading Sci-Fi Books. Some Sci-Fi books have a lot of realistic fiction in them, but are not so boring as just plain old realistic fiction. They have that twist of science-typed make believe writing in them, which makes them a lot more interesting to read. Until staring the science fiction book clubs, I didn't really like these types of books, but now I definitely have a different opinion.

DisneyDance&More said...

i do like science fiction because it is very interesting. it is so out there that it makes it fun to read or watch. after i see a sci-fi movie i wonder what would happen if we had powers or could invent crzy things.

DisneyDance&More said...

@ben h i agree. it is really cool how the authors are o creative in a way that they make other worldly things and creature seem like they are so real.

Yes, I do like science fiction. I like science fiction because fantasy for me is annoying, I get so annoyed with it. I feel as if so much of it is made up it bothers me. Also I sit there as I am reading and I am thinking to myself, this could never happen! why is it happening! Also fiction stories get boring there is nothing exiting in this life so true things arent goiing to be exiting secience fiction perfectly spices things up a bit.

usawildcat11 said...

Grace S. said... I find it odd that you did not know about science fiction as an option of reading before the book clubs. how many books have you read? I am sure that you haev read at least one other science fiction book and been like, " oh hey this is pretty good" Also even though I find your coent very odd, I do agree that science fiction gives realistic fiction of a pinch of interestingness.

Personally I think that science fiction is great. It is a way to learn something while also reading a great book or watching a great movie. My favorite science fiction book is The Time Travelers Wife. I love this book because it is a great read but it also brings in a sense of technology and science. I think science fiction is very interesting to read. These are my feelings on science fiction.

Sarah G. said...

@Grace S. I agree with you when you that Science fiction books are great because they have a lot of realistic fiction but with a twist of science to make them a bit more interesting. I also like them because they are a mix of great genres like science and fiction and nonfiction and fantasy. This makes science fiction the best genre of them all. This is why I agree with you Grace S.

I agree with you 100% because in my book it taught me a great message. Also you said that the books you can imagine and the movies are cheesy which is also true because in the movie of my book they didn't explain or anything.
