"A Small Good Thing", Scotty is hit by a car and is in the hospital. He hasn't woken up and his mom is worried. Do you think he will wake up? Also, the man from the bakery keeps calling, do you think this has anything to do with Scotty being hit by a car?

Yes i think Scotty will wake up. The doctor says hes fine and usually doctors are right. I think maybe that the guy driving the car was the baker. He feels bad that he hit Scotty so hes making sure that they pick up the cake.
I wish I didn't think so, but ui predict that Scotty will die. He's in a "not coma" and he has a head injury and a fracture in his skull. He was bably injured, and I think that he will pass away while he is in the "not coma." I don't think the baker was the one who hit Scotty with the car, but I think that he will somehow play a role in the perents' lives after Scotty's death. As much as i hope he will live, that is what i think will happen.
I think that Scotty will not wake up because the doctor is repeatedly saying that the boy is fine, that it isn't a coma. I think, that the doctor is hiding that the boy is dying. I also think that the baker does has something to do with the accident.
No I don't think that Scotty will wake up. Well, at least not for a while. I think he's going to fall into a comma for a while for suspense, but eventually he'll wake up.I also think that the baker had something to do with the man in the car, I just don't know how. I mean, if he were the one who'd hit him he'd know they weren't coming for the cake. Then again how would he know it was Scotty? So, I'm actually not sure about the baker...but I think he's kind of creepy.<:(
No, I don't think that Scotty will wake up. His mom keeps on jumping to conclusions that he is in a coma, but the doctors are tring to convince her that it isn't. The only problem is that the doctors keep on saying Scotty will wake up any minute, but he hasn't. I am still not sure why the baker is calling. Maybe he just wants to get rid of the cake. Maybe he knows something about Scotty. I haven't figured it out yet.
I do think that Scotty will wake up. He doesn't seem like he is at death's door. I think this because in the story after he was hit with the carand he didn't seem that bad. Yes, he did feel a little tired ,but over all he was good. When he finally was in the hospital he didn't even have a concussion. The man from the bakery has nothing to do with Scotty getting hit by the car. I think this because, why would he? The man only wrote a name on a cake. He didn't know who the kid was or what he looked like. I know this because in the story the man called about picking up the cake after he was hit by the car and was already in the hospital. I bet the old man didn't even know Scotty was hit by the car. I know he didn't know about Scotty getting hit by the car because when he did call he was so mean and was yelling at Scotty's father why he didn't pick the cake up.

Also i think the baker might have something to do with Scotty being hit by a car because he calls their house saying why didn't you pick up the cake and also when someone did hit Scotty they just stopped and then continued to drive, acting like they din't even care that they just hit a little boy.
I do think that Scotty is going to wake up. The reason I think this is because he is one of the main characters and if he died the story would feel like it ended in mid air.If he did die the story would be less interesting and shorter. And I think that the truck was from the man in the bakery.It was probably one of his men droping off some cakes somewhere and he is calling to say sorry.
I do think that Scotty is going to wake up. He isnt in a coma yet, which is a good sign because it means his body can still function. I agree with Bowen that the baker might have been the person who hit Scotty because he seems a little to involved in the story to be just the baker. Im still not sure completelty sure about him though, he might want something out of Scotty and his family or he might just want them to pick up the cake.
I agree with Mariana. And also that the baker is a very important character in the story. In the end i think scotty willwake up and end up having his birthday party.
I do think scotty will wake up eventually. As for the baker man...he's pretty creepy. Maybe he could have something to do with him being hit by the car. He could have been the one who hit him but was to afraid to admit it so he just keeps calling about the cake to make up for it.
I don't think that Scotty will wake up because the doctor knows that Scotty has no chance of survival. I feel like the doctor is hiding his death from the parents for some reason that might have to do with the baker...The baker has creeped me out from the start, not talking, hard skin ect. To top it all of the baker keeps repeatedly calling to announce that the cake is ready... Can't he wait or hold it? THe baker and the doctor are up to something but I'm not sure why they would kill the boy and then be afraid to just tel the parents....Overall I believe the boy is dead and the baker and doctor have something to do with it.
I agree to Mariana. If Scotty died how would the story continue. There are about 4 pages left to the story we didn't read and if they are all about him still asleep or him dead it wouldn't be an interesting story. I think the bakery man is part of the crime of hurting Scotty because at the bakery he was all depressed and everything. He could've done it. I think he keeps calling well one because of the cake, or two because he realized that the the kid he hit (if he did) was Scotty
Hmmmm i dont know if im doing this right but i do think scotty will wake up, the doctor said he is going to so im assuming yes..... and yes i do think the baker does have something to do with it because why would the autor put a random baker in the story if he didnt have something to do with the story so im sure we will be hearing more about the baker shortly.
I think that Scotty will wake up because the doctor seemed like he still had alittle hope and he wasnt definite that Scotty was dead. I also think that the baker knows something about what hapeened to Scotty or maybe he even hit him or one of his workers dropping off a cake or something hit him.
Yes, I also do think Scotty will wake up. If he dies then and there, whats the rest of the story about? He will wake up just to continue the story. Killing a main character at the beggining of a story is dumb. It is dumb beacause the rest of the story would be nothing. It would be the boring lives of some people related to a kid who died.
I have already finished the story so it's hard for me to answer. I can give my thoughts that I had at about the half way point. I wasn't sure whether or on Scotty was going to "wake up" but I was leaning towards yes. I figured he could be a more useful tool to the plot if he was conscious. Also, his lack of reaction after being hit indicated he wasn't injured severely enough to stay in a coma. At the half way point, also, I was pretty sure that the caller was not related to Scotty's injury. It seemed pretty obvious by the cake comment that it was the baker calling.
I think Scotty will wake up. I agree with Mariana and believe that if he dies the story wouldn't be as interesting and have enough things to add to the plot. I do think the baker has more of a significance in the story and he has somthing to do with why the boy is in the hospital, otherwise, why would the author include the parts with him and when he calls.
No, I do not think that Scotty will live. He was hurt really badly, and when people have injuries like that, they usually don't survive. I have a feeling that the baker did have something to do with Scotty's accident. Maybe he didn't hit him on purpose. He might have had a stressful day at work and was in a hurry to get home and relax, and he hit Scotty. He might have been in shock and not really have known what to do so he just drove away!!

I don't think Scotty will wake up because that story just didn't seem like a happy one where everything turns out fine. He was hit by a car hard and thats a hard thing to overcome. Also, yes, I think the baker is important because he might have been the person who hit scotty and wants to check up on him/ say sorry
I disagree with molly, i think that with an injury like Scotties that its a miricle that he isn't already dead, and the baker is trying to deliver the cake to scotty and at one point scotties mom is going to have to go home and the baker is going to come to the house and deliver the cake
Yes, I do the baker had something to do with it. I think the baker hit him with the car and thats why he keeps calling so much. And yes Colin it is a miracle he is still alive.
I dont think that scotty will wake up. he got hit by a car and then he wouldnt talk. i think he is hurt bad. I also think that the baker has something to do with it. He keeps calling and is angry. He could have been the person that hit him in the car. Even if he wasnt, i think he still had something to do with it.

the man from the bakery i think is just trying to remind them about the cake that they ordered. i dont think he has anything to do with the boys injury.
I think Scotty will wake up but might have a problem with his brain, because he did fall asleep with a concussion, which is bad. I think the baker is constantly calling because he may of hit Scotty and he wants to know if he should still make the cake.
I think that scotty will die. hes in a coma but the doctors dont really know if he is i think that he will die and his parents will go and tell the baker to stop calling... (i think the baker is calling them non-stop) i also think that the baker was the one who killed scotty. he was the hit and run person !!!!
I think the baker has nothing to do with the accident. Scotty will probably die but he wont just die because a baker didnt get his cake. I bet the baker has nothing to do with anything and he's just trying to create suspense.
I don't think Scotty will wake up because he keeps on falling back alseep and they have to keep on checking on him. That was my opinion before finishing the short story, now that i have finished my answer changes. I also think the baker had somthing to do with it because he was being nice at first and wanted to help them but he seemed kind of suspicious.

I think he will not wake up because when the parents are with the docter, the docter is asked qustions about how scotty is doing, and the docter answers weakly(and what they ask about sound like symtoms of...DEATH!). I think the baker hit scotty with the car because he seems like a random character and he keeps calling.

Welllllllll I already read the story but I felt like posting a comment soooo, when I was reading the story I thought Scotty wouldn't wake up because otherwise what kind of story would it be???? And I didn't think the baker had anything to do with Scotty getting hit by a car. The author just didn't think like that, Mr. Horvath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think a small good thing was a good story. I think at the end the baker was a little to nice. maybe he is like tht bc he knows how it is to be lonley and to lose someone.
When I was reading this story I honestly thought that Scotty would wake up. Like Bowen said the doctor's told the Weiss's that he will wake up and doctor's are almost always right. I also don't think that the baker had anything to do with Scotty getting hit by the car because he was hit on the day of his party before he was supposed to pick up the cake.
I know this is a little late but in response to Brianna C, he doesn't fall in and out of sleep. The only thing that can be counted as any sort of conciousness is when he made noise for a few seconds, but that doesn't exactly count as being awake, since it was more or less sleep talking.
