Summer Reading

We are getting very near the end of this school year.  Hopefully you all plan on doing some reading over the summer.  Reading expands your vocabulary as well as your critical thinking skills.  It is also a great way to relax and "go on vacation" without leaving home.  What is the one book you definitely plan on reading this summer?

I definitely want to read (if i dont finish by the end of the year) is Legend. I would want to finish this book because already i can tell it is going to be a good book. A boy fails his "trials" and skips out on his punishment. he goes back to see if his family passes their plague tests btu it is taking longer than normal.

The books that I would really like to read are John Carter of Mars vol. 1 and American Sniper. I would like to read these books because both supposedly have lots of action and seem like really good books. In John Carter of Mars, John is somehow sent to the red planet of Mars. He escapes from various, green alien clans. Throughout the 11 books in the series, John tells his story of his 10 years on Mars.

One book I definitely plan on reading over the summer is the third Skulduggery Pleasant book because after reading the first two books, I was hooked and now that has been out for a while, and I didn't know until about a few months ago, I really want to read it. When I read the second book, I read for two and a half hours straight reading that book because I was so into the book my parents walked up to e three times and never noticed because I imagining the whole book in my head as I read it. It was such a good book, the second one, that I can not wait until it is summer so that I can read the book. Or better yet, the sooner I start the book, the better, so that I can also start to read the fourth book and the fifth book which are also both out to the public. So, during the summer, the book I will be reading is Skullduggery Peasant book 3, especially on long trips on the plane or at the restaurant or in our hotel room.

I'm excited to be able to read whatever we want one book that definitely plan reading is the 2nd book of Storm Runner by Roland Smith. I thought that the first book was so interesting and kept me in suspense. I would also like to read the Hunger Games because everyone seems to thinks that it is a fantastic book. But, because we have to read classic books I have not been able to read any of them.

I definitely plan on reading a book called Fear, by Michael Grant this summer. It is the fifth book in this series that I've liked since I was in sixth grade called, Gone. IT is basically about a world where all parents disappear and a creature tries to kill all the kids in tis little dome, but the catch is everyone has the chance to die or not at fifteen. It also has romance involved in it, so it takes a lot of elements from different books and blends them together. This book is probably a little bit babyish for me, but not too much. It's easy to understand, but it is around 500 pages. So, it'll keep me interested, but an was read so I can hang out with my friends at night rather than contemplate on what the author meant and all that, I mean its summer! But I definitely plan on chilling at the beach reading Fear by Michael Grant this summer.

@AnCh373,
When you talk about how you'd like to read another book because you got really hooked on the previous ones, I can definitely relate to that with Fear. I have no idea if Skullduggery Pleasant is a hard or easy boo, but when the series is good, you just want to keep reading, even if it isn't a mind twister like A Midsummer's Night Dream. But, for pleasure reading especially, it always mass the book so much more interesting when you can imagine yourself in the character's shoes. And in the summer on a rainy day when all your friends are away at camp or wherever, I think you and I both agree diving into book can open up another place just as fun as the swimming pool in your backyard.

One book that I want to read is called Roar. I had got this book a couple of years ago. The book is about a zombie Apocalypse and there is a large wall with a Gauss turret with four barrels to defend the uninfected people. I had bought this at the book fair but i forgot about it. As I was looking through my books, I saw that and i forgot what it is about. so I read the back to give me an idea and i thought that I might like that. This is the book that I am planning to read.

AnCh373 said...

@kevin 0
I agree with your situation because I am in a similar situation myself. I once thought that I had no other books to read, because I thought I had read them all, so I asked for more books so that I had something to read. But when I asked for more books to read, I found books on my shelf that I had forgotten about that I had not read yet. So I now have about ten books I still have not read yet and I am still receiving more and more books. I am trying to catch up on my pile of books that are sitting on my shelf, like maze runner, and the second and third book of the Tunnels series, which I will try to catch up on over the summer vacation time this year. That is mostly what I will be doing when I relax and "go on vacation."

I would like to read is Gulliver's travels because now that I started reading classic books i have some interest in them. I saw the movie that went with the book and it was pretty funny so I am looking forward to reading the book this summer.

One book I am planning to read is tomorrow before the war began. I don't have it but I plan on getting it. The though of an action-packed mystery always gives me a thrill because the action-packed part always makes me want to read more and the mystery part keeps my head thinking and is good exercise.

Muffin Man 101 said...

I am hoping that some knew interesting books that come out this summer because not a lot of the books that have recently come out fit my style. I do want to try to read more because as you say it does help you with a lot of important skills. I would just like to find more books that I can really get into like I was able to really get into the Outsiders.

The one book that I plan on reading the book called "The Summer of Firsts and Lasts." I like want to read this book because of the details on the front cover. I think that the book is about a girl who has an amazing summer and then it ends and she believes that it will be the best first summer and that she feels like it would be the last summer that she will ever have that will be as great as the last summer. This is important because I think that it relates to me because I have had an awesome summer and I know that it would be my last favorite summer for a long time.

One of the books that i would really love to read over the summer vacation or really anytime would be 1984. I would want to read this book because everyone that basically read the book loved it and want others to read the book too because of that one main reason. I think that since Mr. Horvath told us to start reading the classic book severe marking period i started to gain respect for those books and now i basically only read and want to read the classic books that were listed on our classic book sheets. I think that the books that were written years ago were written with a better idea than most of the new books that really are not so good compared to the older classical books that we were told to read through out the year.I think that 1984 is a classic book that was one of the those books that were written so anyone and really everyone that read that book was entertained and wants to keep one rereading the book. Also books like 1984 may have a good plot line and everything but when you read the book you can really take writing tricks etc... away fom it and use it in your own writing. Therefore that is why i think that i and many more people should read the book 1984 and books like that to learn from them.

Jessica T. said...

@Muffinman I agree with you because I also want to try something new. I know this because I get tired of all this mystery saga's and all of the muder's. this is important because you need to explore new idea's that are out there in the world.

@ AnCh373
I agree with you that the Skullduggery Pleasant Series is a good series that is worth while to read. I read the first to books and am waiting for the next book to come out. I think that many books that are good like this series are lack in our generation. You can see how years ago almost every single book cranked out of the publishing homes were all good and really applied and affected many people. These days on the other hand are basically the exact opposite because to find that good new book that just hit the market you will have to look and work to find that hit book. I think that this will just get worst and really become a big mess but on the other hand the next generation of people will like it and end upon a chain of events. Therefore that is why i think that books are not getting any better and that the classical books are the incentive for right now.

a book id like to read this summer is The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien. Id like to read this book because i am reading the prequal the hobbit write now. This book is about a fantasy land with Hobbit elf and dwarves. I also like to read it because i read it when i was younger and i hope to get more out of it this time.

I agree with Sethblog because i also think that "The Legend" will be a cool summer read. I think so because it has a futuristic feel where the west coast has formed The republic and often fight with is neighbor. I usually enjoy these types of science fiction book because. I think this book would keep me reading over most of the summer.

This summer I want to read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. One reason I want to read it is because when I read the little summary on what it is about it was not a lot and left me wanting to find out more. Also I have heard many good reviews about it. It is about about a girl named Hazel who could die from a tumor any minute. She lives her life taking a million different medications. When she meets a boy named Augustus her whole life will turn around. This book is also a #1 New York Times Best Seller.

I think you should Hunger Games it was a great book. It could not put it down. There was a lot of suspense and a lot was going on. Even though a lot was going it was easy to keep up with and never got boring. I didn't want to put it down because each page left you off wanting to know more. It was action packed and was full of cliff hangers. That is why you should read it.

I plan on reading the whole "City of Ember" series. i plan to do this because I got the books a wile ago and never got to read them. i also plan to read them because they have gotten good reviews. I also plan on reading the Lost Hero this summer because I got it from my parents and they know what I like to read (si-fi, romance, mystery, adventure, and realistic fiction) so it should be a good book for me. I'm open to suggestions!

Over the course of the school year, I have not read many books I have wanted to read. Most of the books I read were classic books. However, there are some books I am looking forward to reading during the summer. They are the new books by Rick Riordan. I read the first book of the Kane Chronicle series (The Red Pyramid) and the first book of the Heroes of Olympus series (The Lost Hero). Both of the books had a sequel that recently came out. I cannot wait to read books I enjoy over the summer instead of classic books.

Emerson18 said...

@ Language Arts Student I read 1984 during the school year as a classic book. I know many people who enjoyed it, however I didn't enjoy it that much. It was too much like realistic fiction to me, and I hate realistic fiction. Also, it was hard to understand at some parts with what was going on with the government. It was an ok book, but I probably would have enjoyed it more if I understood it more. However, you will probably still like it if you are looking forward to it.

One book I want to read this summer is Coffin Kisses! The book is part of a series and I
read the first one , Vampire Kisses. It was so good. I loved it! The first one is about a girl who meets a vampire :) she ends up in love with him. But know he is missing soin the second book she has to find him and make a big desicion. To be (a vampire) or not to be! My friend does say the series do get weirder and weirder. But I'm willing to take the chance! :)

Rick R. does a great job of getting girls and guys to like it. The books are AMAZING!!! I love the Lost Hero the best. The REd pyramid was dry at certain pats but thats just me.
Things could be different for you and other readers.

I might read pages here and there but not a whole book you can't tell me that i wasn't reading because technically I am.

I would like to read a couple books by Neal Shusterman. I am looking forward to reading Unwind which is about a couple of teenagers that are trying to escape a camp in which they will be killed and used for organ transplants and plastic surgery. Also I would like to read Full Tilt which is about a brother who must ride these carnival rides to save his brother. However the rides are somehow in his mind and each one targets one of his biggest fears. The last one is Bruiser which is about a protective brother who tries to stop his sweet sister from dating a strange kid. However the strange boyfriend is hiding a big secret. These books by Neal Shusterman all look really suspenseful. They are also science fiction which always keep me hooked. I can't wait to read them!

One book I plan on reading this summer is Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky. This book is about society living in a world where everything is done through technology, how our world may be in the future. But a boy who doesn't believe in the cyber world gets a girl to realize that there's a real world out there. Ha takes her on "adventures", and they start to like each other, but the problem is her father works for the group running all the technology and the boy is working to stop it. This book interests me because it seems like it has a lot going on. A part shows how our world may end up someday, and a book like this might show us how a world that way might not be best. It seems like their would be a little action at the same time a story about two kids that everyone can relate to. This summer I plan on reading this novel because it's story plot is very interesting.

I want to read two books/series that I saw at the book fair and one of them was the Gone series. Gone by Michael Grant looked really interesting. I read the back of the book which told me that the book was about how one day everyone over the age of 15 (or around there) disappeared. The teens that were left alive had to fight for survival as they suffered living conditions, food shortages, getting along, and fighting wild animals. The book looked good and long which could keep me occupied for a while. The other book that interested me at the book fair was The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler. This book is about two teenagers Josh and Emma who go on Emma's new computer and put in a free AOL CD which gives Emma 100 free hours on internet. However they get logged on to Facebook but Facebook hasn't been created yet because it is the year 1996. They discover who they are in 15 years and as they find out who they will be they realize what they must change who they are now to be who they want in the future. Both of these books are at the library so I can easily read them over the summer. They look interesting and I will definitely be reading them soon! :)

This summer I also plan of reading the book, Uglies because I have heard nothing but good things about this book from projects at school to friends who have completed it. I read the first chapter and immediately wanted to read on. It has many ideas I think a lot of people and I could relate to. So this summer I plan on reading Uglies because of the great things I know about it.

I disagree with Language Arts Student when you said you would like to read the book 1984 and the books of the list. i wouldn't like to read 1984 because from all the people I know who have read didn't not enjoy it and some didn't even finish it. The story plot also does not interest me because it was written in the future, but because it was written a long time ago we have already lived through the "future". What they thought would happen is nothing like how things actually went so this book would not interest me. I also disagree when you said you wanted to read the classic books of the list. I disagree not because i didn't enjoy the classic books i read, but just because I don't like being told what books to read and have to choose of a list. Because of having to do that this year my love of reading has decreased a lot. I don't enjoy reading books anymore because I have to read certain ones and don't get to choose the books that may be new or just ones I choose on my own, found for myself, and decided to read it on my own. When I choose books this way I always enjoy them more because I like picking out books for myself. This is why I disagree with you.

Another series that I already started, but not finished yet due to the good amount of classic books and others I was reading is the Harry Potter series. As of now, I don't have any book in mind that I'planning on reading. Sometimes it's nice to just give your brain a break from all that thinking,especially right after school. However, there is always something in the bookstore that catches my eye, whether it be a novel, history book, or a new part to a series. Therefore, there is not a book that I am planning to read over the summer, though I'm sure something will get my attention.

Therefore, I can understand your frustration and I agree with you when you say that summer is not what it should be.

One series I would like to read is the Maximum Ride series. I want to read this series because I have recently read the first two books in the series and have gotten hooked to them. The series is about 6 kids who have avian (bird)DNA mixed into them so they have genetically enhanced vision, strength, and speed compared to the average human. They also have wings so they can fly. But the scientists who created them want them back so they are always on the run. I think the Maximum Ride series sounds very interesting and from past experience, I would like to read to reread this series over summer vacation.

The book I really want to read this summer is The Alchemyst because it looks like the type of book I'd love. There's mystery, prophecy, mythology...what's not to like? Also, Nicholas Flamel is someone I've been interested in for a long time. The way he "supposedly" found a way to turn mercury into gold and became immortal through the Philosepher's stone is not an easy thing to pass by. The magic (or maybe lack thereof) is fascinating to me, and The Alchemyst contains all that. This is why I want to read that book over the summer.

They should have their own lives too. The whole book is action packed and full of cliff-hangers. That's why I agree with you that Unwind is a great book.

P.S. If you like Unwind, you will love Everlost and its series.

You have to read books over the summer because reading books during summer will help you in school the next year. I know this because books literally make you smarter. They exercise your brain, making you think more logically and giving you more knowledge to use. In books, things don't just happen at random. No matter how strange, there's always a reason. Also, just using that area of your mind, which is also the part used in class, will make you use things you learned in school the previous year. Therefore you retain the information better, which is helpful come the next grade. This is why we have to read during summer.

Unfortunately, I don't really remember the series that well, so I am going to read all nine books this summer. It would be totally worth it because it is a spectacular series.

I agree with Grace S because I would like to read The Last Song. I saw the movie and it was really sad but romantic at the same time. Grace S said, "The Last Song also seems like it has an interesting story line. I looked at the summary on the back of it, and it seems like it would be a sad but romantic book to read." This seems like a really interesting book to read!

@Pandanut12 I have already read the Alchemist and it is a great book. I want to read the Enchantress when it comes out, which is supposedly the sixth and final book to the Nicholas Flamel series. I have loved that series and will be really sad that it is over. It has exposed me to tons and tons of mythology, greek, roman, Egyptian, native american, nordic, etc and I learned a lot about the old times while reading a thrilling fantasy novel.

One book I definitely will read during summer is "My Sisters Keeper" if I dont finish it by the end of the year(still need classics) because I saw the movie and I loved the movie, and as of now, I am in love with the book, the imagery in my mind is vast, colorful, and clear. The description practically has no end, it is so descriptive and fascinating. Therefore, I would read this book again during summer or finish it in the summer.

Another book I might want to read is The Lucky One.I recently saw the movie, and I loved it. It was really entertaining and powerful. Now that I've watched the movie, I want to read the book how it compares. I know that over the summer if I pick this book, I won't stop reading it.

One book I would like to read over the summer would be Terminal Man. For the book club book, I read the Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton. It was a great book. Therefore, I would like to try another book by him, The Terminal Man.

@Ryan
I would also like to read the Hunger Games. I saw the movie when it came out and it was good so I would like to read the books. When people first started talking about it, I thought it would just blow over so I n ever checked them out. I saw the movie and because books are usually better than the movie, I think it would be a good book.

@Unknown 7
I read the Maximum Ride series and it was good. There was a lot of suspense and action. Also, my favorite genre is science fiction so I loved the Maximum Ride series. If it hadn't read it already, I would read that or the Hunger Games over the summer.

This summer, I definitely want to read the at least the first book in the twilight series. This is because they seem very interesting. They are non-stop action because there are constantly fights as well as drama going on with vampires, werewolves, and both. Also, my mother, and friends, have told me that they couldn't put the book down. And another thing, I have seen the first movie, and thought it was one of the greatest movies of all time due to the romance and action, and I've heard that books are always better than movies, so if if this is true in this case, I would love to read the book Twilight this summer! Therefore, I would really like to get started on reading Twilight this summer because of its interesting topic.

@abc123comewithme
I would like to read the book "The Lost Hero" too because I bought it a while ago, but never really read it. It stinks to waste money on what sounds like a good book, so why not read it, right? The book sounds like it's adventurous, exciting, and romantic, which by the way, I love all three of these things! Also, it is pretty much a continuation of one of my favorite series of all time, The Lightning Thief! So therefore, I would like to pick this book up in the summer and read it, because I don't want a good book to go to waste, and also, it is very exciting!

One book that I am defiantly going to read this summer is Flipped, because I heard from a friend that it was a really good book, and it sounded like a good read. I want to read this book because I heard that it is a good comedy about two kids my age and moving to new places and living with what life throws at them. The book is also a decent length, and will take up a good amount of my summer.

Kate O. said...

A book that I would love to read this summer is switched for many different reasons. One reason is because it is a trilogy. Also because it is about a girl my age who is a changeling who was switched at birth. This means that she is actually a child substituted by fairies for her parents real child. This book is a good length around 300 pages, and sounds like a very good book to read over my summer break.

@bieberlover10. I agree with you about reading the book Mockingjay. I would like to read this book because I read The Hunger Games, and also Catching Fire, but never had the chance to read Mockingjay. I've heard mixed feeling about the book, but I am willing to try ready for the twists and turns that happened in the first two books. I would also like to read the last book in the series because I would love to know what happens in the end. This is why I want to read this book.

I plan to read the new percy jackson book callen the mark of athena because those books are very adventurous. Also I want to read it because I expect it to have a lot more problems. This is why I want to read this book this morning

I agree with you because those were both good books and I never did get a chance to finish mockingjay. Like you said the first 2 books were really good and I think that mockingjay will be a good book

The series I am planning on finishing is the hunger games series. I am going to read Mocking jay and finish Catching Fire. I am going to do this because I absolutely loved reading the Hunger Games. It was so good and I have a feeling that Mocking jay is going to be even better.

I agree with you and would also want to read the Lucky One. I would want to see this because I never got to see it in the movies and it looked extremely good. Also, it is always good to read the book before the movie so I would be also interested in reading The Lucky One over the summer.

The book that i will definatly read this summer is Rot & Ruin, which has a post apocalyptic (after the end of the world) and is about a kid named Benny who is fiften, and he must work or lose his food rations. Although he does not want to take on the family buisness, he trains with his boring older brother to become a zombie killer.

Dr. Bubblesquash said...

@Anonymous, I agree with you, I have heard about how amazing the Hunger games are but have never gotten around to reading them. Reading those will be a top priority along with The Hobbit.

One book I am planning on reading, is The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind. This is because I started reading the first few pages last summer but never had the chance to finish it. The first few pages were very good, and made me want to read it. Unfortunately in Mr. Horvath's class we had to start reading our classic books and I could not finish it. This summer I plan to read it first so I will defiantly finish it. Therefore, this summer I am planning to read The Boy WHo Harnessed The Wind.

I disagree with all of the people who want to read Nicholas Spark books. This is because all of the people who want to rad them want to read his books because the movie was good. I disagree because the movies were sappy love stories and the movies are never as good as the books. So, I believe if you are basing your decision to read a book on the movie you saw, it would not be a good decision. Therefore, I do not want to read a Nicholas Spark book this summer.

Brian C said...

@ Dr. Bubblesquash
I agree, because post apocalyptic action- adventure stories can never get boring, and with zombies it just adds to the fact. All zombie stories are often action packed, and when your life is in danger, you turn to doing anything. This makes all stories along the post apocalyptic time frame adventurous, which puts Rot & Ruin at the top of my list also.

The one book I defiantly plan on reading this marking period is the the second hunger games book, catching fire. I want to read this book because a lot of other people said they enjoy he series. Also I want to read this because it seems like it has a unique plot compared to other books.

This summer, I plan on reading the Fire Stone, by Riley Carney. The reason that I want to read this book is because a few years ago, I read the Water Stone, because I liked the cover. I read the book, but did not understand it very well as it is a book for middle school students, not elementary school students. I also did not know that it was the second book in the series, and that the fire Stone is the first book. In conclusion, since I did not understand the second book and didn't read the first one, I feel compelled to read the first book, "The Fire Stone."

@ Muffin Man 101,
I agree with you that Guliver's Travels would be a good book to read over the summer. I saw the movie, but never read the book, and I think that I should to better understand the whole premise. I remember reading a summary of the book, and it looks like a good tale, plus what I saw in the movie that came from the book. This book isn't the best book for my reading level, as I am a little old for it, so I think, but I think that it would still be a good book to have fun reading over the summer.

1 book that I defiantly will read this summer is the book called "Legend" by Marie Lu. I plan on reading this book because I love action packed suspenseful books that are on going and that is exactly what this book is about. It is about a boy and a girl. The girl is a military prodigy and the boy is a wanted criminal. They had no intentions of meeting each other until the girls brother is murdered and the boy becomes the prime suspect. The boy is running away for his families survival and the girl is wanting to avenge her brothers death.

Logan S. said...

I agree with you sethblog because I too want to read the book Legend because like I said before it looks action packed and full of suspense and wanted criminal and military prodigies are my type of thing.

One book that I absolutely want to read is the third book in the Kane Chronicles. This is because I have read the first two books and I loved the concept behind them. I cannot wait to read the next books and find out what happens next since I was left with a cliffhanger in the last book.

I can totally relate to how you feel with Roar. I have bought so many books the past two years and have not had the chance to finish them. I feel so annoyed whenever I see these books because I am just so overwhelmed by everything else that I have going on.

The one book that I definitely plan on reading this summer would be Everwild. This is part of the "Skinjacker" trilogy. I have already read the first book, Everlost, and have the third book, Everfound, but can't seem to find the second book! That is why I definitely plan on finishing this series during the simmer.

@ Muffin Man 101

I agree with your opinion of classic books. Before, I couldn't keep my eyes open reading them, but after reading one or two classic books, I'm starting to favor them and enjoy them even more than I hoped I would. Classic books are just another possibly-interesting book that can be read with just as much enthusiasm. I think that almost all classic books are worth a try.

alcatrazjail said...

I want to read the Hunger Games. I've always wanted to read this series but have never gotten to. My family is always annoying me about it. Also, it sounds like a book I would enjoy! It has death, violence, and blood! This book has topped charts and gotten many awards. This is why I want to read the Hunger Games.

alcatrazjail said...

@Anonymous I also want to read the Hunger Games. Unlike you, who has started the series, I have not read any so I would really like to. People are always talking about them and I always end up standing there like an idiot not knowing what the heck their talking about!

One book I will definitely be reading this summer is the Bible. I never had to read the bible as a child and I never really went to church but in society they're so many references to the stores in the Bible and I want to understand them. Also, I feel like I need to do a little "soul searching". I want to research all aspects of religion before I make any formal beliefs about y personal religious views and my perspective on others. Plus, there are so many dispute on what the Bible says and what it doesn't. I want to be able to say, "No, what the Bible really means...." or " Yes, the Bible does indeed say that." So this is one book I really want to read over the summer. I plan on reading both version. I hope I don't get bored.

@Annomous

I disagree with what you were saying about how you wanted to read The Notebook. There's nothing wrong with The Notebook but, you said you wanted to do it because you liked the movie. A lot of times movies can be very different form the book, so you can't really say you want to read the book because you think it will be like the movie. Although this is contradicting what I just said, you already saw the movie, so you know how the book will end. You've already seen the whole story so reading the book is kind of a waste of time.

If I were to read a book in the summer I would probably choose to read (War Boys)the reason I would choose this book is because im into war books. Also some of my frieinds have read the book they said it had action persuaution and lots of adrenillen to the reader as they read the book. This is the book I would like to read in the Summer.

One book, or I should say series, I am most likely to read over Summer vacation is The Mortal Instruments Series because it honestly looks like a good fun read. I have had two of the books, book one and two, in my room forever and never got to read them yet so during the summer would probably be a good way to finally get to read them. Another reason why I am probably going to read them is because they both have more of a fantasy genre to them and they are both thick chapter books, which are my favorites. Therefore, for these reasons, this is why I will probably read The Mortal Instruments Series this Summer.

Imagine11 said...

@Emerson18
I would definitely like to say that the books you are going to read over the Summer are actually really good because you said that you were going to read more books by Rick Riordan. You said that, "I read the first book of the Kane Chronicle series (The Red Pyramid) and the first book of the Heroes of Olympus series (The Lost Hero). " You also said, " Both of the books had a sequel that recently came out." Therefore, since I have also read The Lost Hero and know that Rick Riordan is a good author, that the books you will be reading will probably be good.

I starting reading Hunger Games last year, because everyone around me said it was a great book. Un fortunately, It just did not capture my attention. I have tried to restart in several times, and always put it aside for something else. Maybe I will try it again this summer. Seeing the movie may jump start my interest.

I am definitely planning on reading (if I don't finish) Eon and the sequel Eona. I want to read this series because the mix of fantasy and mystery is great. I love the concept of the Dragons and the different ways they are chosen. I think it is a clever book idea and I like how it is filled with suspense. You never know if Eon is going to be chosen by the Rat Dragon or not in the beginning and also it is very surprising when you first find out that Eon is actually a girl (Eona). I enjoy reading long fantasy books so these are definitely my kind of books.

I agree with you. I have been planning on also reading the book Rot & Ruin and the sequel Dust & Decay. I have been wanting to read these books because I greatly enjoy reading things about post-apocalyptic and zombie books. I enjoy fantasy books and the look of these books seem like they would satisfy me. Overall, I can't wait to read this series.

One book i would love to read this summer is "Beautiful Creatures" by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl because it sounds very interesting. I have read a summary on it on wikipedia and it seems to be a sci-fi book with a bit of a love story in it. I always read a sample of it on ibooks. In the sample the boy is having a dream of a girl, one he seems to have a lot, but can never see her face in the dream. She also has this distinct scent. That's where the sample stops (kind of).

Hayley M said...

@sethblog, I don't know if I would like this book because it doesn't sound too interesting by the way you described it. It kind of sounds like a normal adventure story, which in my mind are a little drab and boring.

The summer book that I am going to read is The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. I wanted to read this book beacuse I love a good love story and this is not some story that you hear every day. I am really excited to read this especially beacuse when I saw the movie I loved it and I thought that I teas great and my sister always says the book is always better than the movie. This is why I have signed up to be a book group leader for the book called The Lucky One.

Sarah G. said...

@Hayley M. I think that the book beautiful creatures does sound like a really good book. From the way you described it I am a little bit confucsed but wanting to know more and intrigued. Also I have been trying to read more Si-Fi type things beacuse I like love stories to much. So I think that this would be a good book for me to read to brace it would slowly help me twords reading more Si-Fi books.

During the summer, I definitely want to read more Shakespeare. We read A Midsummers Night Dream this year, and although the language was difficult in the beginning, it became easier to understand as I read along. By the second and third acts of the play, I was able to understand the key parts and the gist of what was going on without having to keep going back and rereading. Also, the plot in the story was easy (for me) to follow because that idea has been reused so much and have traveled to other non-shakespeare books that I have read. Therefore, since I am able to understand the key parts of Shakespeare's plays, and can relate to the stories, I would want to read more Shakespeare over the summer.

CandyS. said...

I would like to read A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. This is a popular science book that covers topics such as the big bang and black holes. Although this is not a fiction book that tells a story, it is on a subject that I personally find fascinating. I am very interested in space and the wonders it holds. To know that compared to the universe our solar system, our galaxy is a mere speck, and that I am microscopic is thrilling in my mind. This book may be hard to get through because of the mathematical equations it contains, but during the summer I will have more time and patience to get through it.
