We Love Water

Fresh, potable water is an issue in many parts of the globe.  Luckily, we in southern CT do not suffer through droughts or poor drinking water.  This article should help you gain some perspective on how good we have it and how important taking care of our supply of fresh water is.

I think that we people that live in CT may say its boring and it "sucks" or whatever but we really don't appreciate the things we have that others may not have just like in this article. In the article it says and shows how we CT residents are lucky to be were we are because of the small things that we have like water (fresh). We may read this article and say great who really cares its only water but to other people in the us or in fact really anywhere really this is live and death for them. This is clearly showen with a simple natural resource like water in CT there is so much water that we don't have to worry. But then there are states like Arizona were there is basically no water and everything is bone dry. Therefore that is why i think that simple things like water should accounted for more in places like Ct were we don't have a problem with it.

I believe that the people Connecticut take fesh water for advantage. I believe this because even though we have water, we could not stnd living without water. We have a surplus in water because we are on a coast whic it can be madeinto fresh and drinkable water. In other places such as Arizona(Language Arts Student)and missippi, they have dry landscapes and have little to no water.

I have always figured that living in CT is the worst place to live but this article has brought many things to light. As I have realized that our drinking water doesn't ever get effected by droughts. Which in my opinion is something that is very lucky. Also realizing how much water we can actually drink has has helped me realize that we really are lucky to be getting the amount we are getting. So with this article being brought to light so has my appreciation for water. So therefore there is not that much water in the world and we should appreciate what we have.

Man on the Moon said...

Language Arts Students I agree with you that we are very lucky and should appreciate it. Unlike bone dry Arizona or Texas were the water supply can get very low. Also I agree with you for the fact People should appreciate this more that south Connecticut doesn't get effected by anything. So therefore I conclude that I am very lucky to live in a place which has an unaffected water supply and we should appreciate this and be happy.

I think that we take our water supply for granted. We are able to wasting water, not worry about clean water, or droughts. We are very lucky because there are many other places were water uses need to be monitored. They worry about their water supply every day. People are even dying of thirst in countries with a limited amount of water. Also they need be be sure their water doesn't carry harmful diseases. Here we don't worry about any of those things.

Cav98 said...

I agrewe with man on the moon because i think we are pretty lucky to live here. Were almost spoiled with all of the things we don't need to worry about. Here in Monroe the isn't much crime so we don't really know what its like to fear criminals. We also have really nice schools so we don't know the need to get money for a private school here. Lastly we don't need to worry about the amount of water and food we get. This really makes us ignorant to a lot of problems that other places face.

After reading this article, I found that i had a question about how the Earths freshwater stays fresh if their is a continuous cycle from the salt water, which turns into water vapor, which can be carried to freshwater. I questioned this when i read, "it is the freshwater resources, such as the water in streams, rivers, lakes, and groundwater that provide people (and all life) with most of the water they need everyday to live. Water sitting on the surface of the Earth is easy to visualize, and your view of the water cycle might be that rainfall fills up the rivers and lakes." This made me question it because all the comments above are people talking about how they can preserve the freshwater and how everybody takes it for granted. Because the article talks about the water cycle it made me question how freshwater stays fresh and salt water stays salt if they can empty into eachother.

I had no idea that there was that much water in, on, and around the world and I did't know that we are using so much water every year. It says that if all the water in, on, and around the sphere would be 332.5 million cubic meters in volume (THAT'S A LOT!). Brackish water is when salt water and fresh water meet in response to Anonymous.

think that it is crazy that there is that much water on earth but there are still droughts that hurt people. Plus only 4 percent of the worlds water is fresh so there are also many places that drinking water can not be given to people. This is really sad because we waste water all of the time when we leave to faucet running and some people around the world don't even have any water

Muffin Man 101 said...

I think that we should have to follow the same rules as people that live in areas that are bone dry because this way we will not be wasting water and it can be evenly distributed. This will help third world countries that do not have access to water because we can try to send them water. This can save a lot of lives and help people that are less fortunate than we are.

the1 said...

I do think that we are very lucky here in CT because we do not have to worry about running out of clear water. People in other places do though, because there is not much fresh water in the world compared to salt water. If we had salt water it would be hard to live.

@cav98 I agree with you that we do, but should not take our water supply for granted. We are able to in the summer go to the beach or go swimming almost whenever we want but some people in africa for instance need to walk many wiles just to get a drink to survive. We should not take our water for granted because other people suffer because they do not have it.

I think that this article gave me a good prospective because I didn't know that that was how fast we are guzzling down water. and I also didn't know that we were so fortunate to have a very good supply of water. I know that we are fortunate now because the people in africa and even in america (like Arizona and Mississippi) have little to no fresh water.

I agree with you completely. we are so close to the cost that there is always water that is filtered and given to us. we don't have to do anything. but the people in arizona have to find their own water. I think we should think about what we do with our water before letting it run down the drain

We are very lucky for are clean water supply. Many places all over the world do not have drinkable water. 96 percent of the water is not safe to drink. What provides us our fresh water is streams, rivers, lakes, and groundwater. Without these we wouldn't have drinkable fresh water. Also many places experience droughts, when they have no water. We have a lot of water, we also use most of that water. In the article it says that in 2000 we used 323 billion gallons per day. We are very lucky to have water when ever we want.

I agree with we do take our water supply for grated. Many places around the world do not have water a when ever they want. We don't need to worry about not having water, we do not have to worry if we have enough water. We always have and endless amount of water. Also our water is always drinkable. Some places have water but it is not drinkable.

Unknown 7 said...

I think that we are lucky that we have so much clean water. Even though we can have it whenever we want, 96% of that water is saline water, making it undrinkable. We are lucky because according to the article, we used 328 billion gallons of surface water per day in the year 2005 in the US only. While some places don't have enough water, we have more than enough. Many people don't appreciate the fact that we have enough supply of water because if we don't reserve and try to save it, we might run out. That's why I think that we are lucky that we have enough water.

Unknown 7 said...

I agree with you because I also think that many people take our water supply for granted. I say this because many places like Texas and Arizona have a very low water supply. That's why I agree with you.

I thought it was very interesting that the amount of water on the Earth is very small compared to the Earth in diameter because it covers up most of the entire Earth itself and is deeper than even we can go. The water is 70% of the Earth's surface and is probably hundreds and hundreds of (nautical) miles deep. It surprised me how little water we really have on Earth in comparison to its land. So, the fact that the amount of water there is on Earth (in a bubble) s smaller than I thought which really surprised me because it was really interesting to me.

Matt W said...

Of course it is awesome that we have a supply of water always and whenever we want it. We use way to much water everyday. People are always saying conserve water! conserve water! but I don't understand why we need to. Its not like we are going to fly 100 planes filled to Africa with the excess water that we saved. It would be too costly and time consuming, though it would be great for the Africans. Countries like China and America should insert tons and tons of machines that turn salt water into freshwater machines, because it would conserve lots of our water while making more.

Matt W. said...

@ abc123comewithme I agree with you that it is weird to think that people actually have to struggle to obtain water. Some of this people who need water are in this very country. Why are we worrying about people in Africa when there are still people thirsty, hungry, and homeless right in our own country? We should make it a priority to help out all of the people in the U.S. before we help out people in other countries.

Lauren said...

I think that many people take fresh water for advantage because for example my cousin always dumbs out her cup of water or water bottle even when there is still water left in it. She just says "If I want more to drink I'll just get a new cup with cooler, fresher water. This shows that people don't relize how limited fresh water can be.

Lauren said...

@Marissa S I agree with you because fresh water is limited because 96% of the earth's water is salt water. Also the United States is lucky enough to have an abundance of lakes, rivers, and steams that provide fresh drinking water. Also I think that any factories that are going to be built near a fresh water supply shouldn't be allowed because this could only pollute the limited amount of the water we drink.

ShyWolf32 said...

I think that most people take advantage of fresh water, escipally in a place like CT. Even though the earth is 3/4 water, not all of it is drinkable and we can't turn of salt water into fresh water. If people who take advantage of the earth's fresh water, should learn the process of making fresh water, and how there is that much fresh water on the earth as they might think.

ShyWolf32 said...

@Lauren I agree with you that too many people take advantage of fresh water. Also how your dumb cousin reallly takes advantage of fresh water and she really shouldn't. She and other people like her should learn about how limited fresh water can be.

YouJustGotCerved said...

I think most people that have fresh water don't appreciate it. This is because just from observations in school, most people throw their bottled water away before even finishing it and then 1 hour later they will crack open a new bottle, making the same cycle. People in places like Africa would be lucky to have that water. They appreciate the little water they have full of waste and garbage more than we appreciate clean water that we have a full supply of! This selfishness is a problem in places like Connecticut and by just finishing a bottle of water and not wasting would help a lot.

YouJustGotCerved said...

@Muffin Man 101
I agree with you because I also think that we should have the same rules for water like other places do. I think this because it would benefit countries like Africa that barely have a supply of water.

Pandanut12 said...

I think that it's important to respect water because we need it so badly. Our bodies are 73% water, and without it we would shrivel up into people raisins. Also, there is very little drinkable water: 1-2%. So if we use it all up, we will die. Therefore, water is something to respect because our health is at it's mercy.

Pandanut12 said...

@Lauren
I agree with you because most of the people we know do take water for granted. I know this because pretty much everyone at parties and school and even every day life say "Eugh, this water is warm. How am I expected to drink this?". And no one does, so they just pour it out. But if they treated water the way it was meant to be treated, the way they do in dry, desert areas like Egypt, they would drink that water or at least pop it in the refrigerator to refreshen. This proves that in wetter climates people take water for granted.

MRAjGE said...

Some parts of this article were confusing. For example, the article kept mentioning water in cubic miles which is really hard to imagine what that would look like. Also they kept switching measurements. They used percents, cubic miles, miles cubed, feet, and billion gallons. To make this article less confusing they should stick to one unit. In addition the water droplet thing didn't make sense because they kept saying "imagine it being 35 mile high". That's just basically stating that your article is confusing when you have to explain it. Maybe adults can understand this article but kids our age won't be able to understand and therefore learn anything from this article.

Anonymous said...

I agree with MRAjGE when they said "Some parts of this article were confusing. For example, the article kept mentioning water in cubic miles which is really hard to imagine what that would look like." I agree with them when they say this because all the exact measurements make it difficult for the reader to understand how big or how little the measurement actually is. If they put more visuals or comparisons in this article the facts would have a bigger impact on the reader. For example, "This drawing shows various blue spheres representing relative amounts of Earth's water in comparison to the size of the Earth" this example also had a picture attached to it; a visual along with the words which makes for a better understanding of the article.

We are lucky to be able to know we have good, clean water to drink every day without any worry. Btu other countries do not. In 2005 the Unites States used 328 billion gallons per day of surface water. Some of this water was used to wash cars and water grass. I feel people should conserve this by only watering their grass once a week and washing their car once a mouth. I feel in many ways we are taking advantage of our water supply, and not thinking about others that can’t find water.

Emma said...

Marissa said....
"96 percent of the water is not safe to drink." I agree with her because this is a large percentage and a big problem in the United State. This means that we need to conserve all the water we have and use it sparingly.

MRAjGE said...

@abc123comewithme
I also didn't realize how wasteful of water we are. The article states that the USA alone used about 328 billion gallons of surface water per day in 2005. In addition, we used about 82.6 billion gallons of groundwater. That is an outrageous amount of water! I can only imagine how much water the whole world consumes in a day, but when you think about it we use water for everything. We use water to wash our hands, shower, and clean. We fill our pools with water and wash cars with water. I mean what doesn't use water! Picture what an impact we could make if the whole world tried to reduce the amount of water they use for everyday events like showering. We could save lots of water from being wasted. The world in general wastes a lot of water that could've been reduced.

Kate O. said...

After reading this article, I believe that the United States uses our water source very poorly. We waste way to much water a day, that soon we will run out. In this article it says, "we used about 328 billion gallons per day of surface water and about 82.6 billion gallons per day of groundwater," and I think that this is a ridiculous amount of water to be wasting. Therefore I think we should start using our water on more important things.

Kate O. said...

@Emma. I agree with you that we are lucky to be able to have clean water to drink everyday, and that we shouldn't be wasting this perfectly good water. As you said, some countries are not as fortunate as we are, and have to drink dirty water everyday. This is why I think we should start using our water more wisely and not waste it, because other countries would die for this water.

!DANCE! said...

We should be exremely happy with the amount of water supply we have here in Connecticut. In Tanzania, which is a country in Africa, children stare at the fosets and wish for some water to come out and the only have a very small amount a day. I know that some children and adults take showers for an hour everyday and they just stay in there. That is wasting a lot of water! That water can be used to save children of thirst and clean them so that they would not get infections of bug bites. I am very thankful for the water we have and you should too.

!DANCE! said...

@ Unknown 7
I agree with you when you said that people should take car of our water supply and we should be very happy that we have the water that we have. Like you said, we only have 4% of water that is drink able and the other 96% is not. We should be extremely thankful that we have the water that could keep us alive and healthy.

StephanieZ said...

I think that almost everybody underestimates and doesn't realize how good we really have it. People in Africa and Haiti would be so grateful for a sip of even semi-clean water, while we complain if the water tastes a little wierd in a resteraunt. Things should not be overlooked, no matter how small they are. We should be grateful for not just the things that make us happy, but for things that keep us alive and that we are lucky to have . That is why I believe that almost everybody doesn't realize how lucky we are.

StephanieZ said...

@ Unknown

I agree with your comment. Out of the whole world, 3/4 is water. Out of that three quarters, only 4% is fresh, drinkable water. We should be considered very lucky to be part of that tiny 4% who can say that they have fresh water in their home, let alone a home at all. That's why I agree with your comment.

AnCh373 said...

@Kate O.
I definitely agree with you because we waste most of our water. With all of the water that we have wasted, we could probably saved tons of lives in Africa because they have very little water and people die of thirst. The amount of water we waste in the United States of America, is just too much and we need to save water and save more lives! That, is really why I agree with you, because you are only doing more harm wasting all of that water everyday of our lives.

Kayleigh said...

Some people don't realize it to untill its gone. Haiti has to walk two miles just for water that isnt really clean. But with us we just walk two steps to get clean water. WE are so lucky to have clean water.

Kayleigh said...

@ Steph.
I agree with you that we don't notice things till there gone. Things should not be overlooked your right. People dont realize how grateful we should be for having such clean water and a good amount of it.

JMM126 said...

I think that we just don't realize how well we have it. Because people in Haiti have to walk like 2+ miles just to get not even fresh, but dirty water. Meanwhile, all we have to do is turn a handle for the sink to pour fresh, cold, clean, water. When I think about it more and more, it makes me realize how lucky CT is for having water when needed. Therefore, this article makes me realize how well CT has when it comes to things we need to survive like water.

JMM126 said...

@KateO
I agree with you because we use WAY too much water. Meanwhile, people in the southern countries are striving for water, getting a cup or less a day and we are using about 328 billion gallons per day of surface water and about 82.6 billion gallons per day of groundwater. If we keep consuming/wasting all of this water, it will all eventually disappear. Therefore, I agree with your statement because we waste/use about 328 billion gallons per day of surface water and about 82.6 billion gallons per day of groundwater which is taken for granted.

After reading this article, I realize how valuable fresh drinking water is. For example, the amount of drinkable water in the world is represented by spheres, that in comparison to the rest of the world, are very small. Also, the world population increases rapidly each day, which makes the idea of less water for everybody more and more real. Therefore, reading this article has made me realize how valuable drinking water is.

For these reasons do I agree with you when you say that the small amount of potable water in the world is a problem.

Water is one of the most important things in the world because without water we cannot survive. What people do not realize is that although Earth is not going to run out of water this precious commodity may become unavailable. People only can drink fresh water which is only about 3% of all of the water on Earth. Furthermore, only a very small portion of this water can be used because much of it is in glaciers, deep underground, or even in the air! Therefore, it is very important that we do not waste water because fresh water may become unavailable to us and when that happens the only way we can get fresh water is through the expensive desalination of ocean water.

G-MAN said...

I agree that us residents of Southern Connecticut are very lucky because we have fresh water. All over the world people die of lack of fresh and clean water. This is such a sad thing especially when you think about how much water is wasted by people and businesses like hotels. We really should be thankful that we have so much clean water. My parents are right in only saying "Don't waste water," because so many people die from lack of clean fresh water. Therefore, I realize that we in Sourthern CT are lucky to have clean fresh water because other people in the world are dying from a lack of it.

I was a little confused at first when I saw this picture because the water bubble was so small. then I realized it was in relation the the whole earth, the core, and everything. Therefore, I think this article was very interesting because it showed the amount of water on the earth compared by volumes which i had never thought about or seen before.

I know that we are very lucky to have the amount of water and resources for water that we have. Many countries, such as Haiti, have very little clean fresh water. For example, they have to walk 2 hours to get to the river that they get water from, so I was told last year from the man from Haiti that visited our school. He also told us that the water is also very dirty, and filled with bacteria. I think that we don't know how lucky we are to have fresh clean water 24/7. In conclusion, I do not take for granted the water we have and I think that we need to be more respectful and thankful for what we have.

I agree with you that we do not know how good we have it, and how badly people in other countries need more water. As I talked about in my last post about Haiti, they also lack water in Africa. In Africa, they lack fresh water like Haiti and walk far distances to get it. In addition, the water they do have is infested by mosquitoes, giving many people diseases such as malaria. I think that these countries should be helped and get the water they need. In conclusion, that leads me to further think how much that we need to cherish the water that we have and try to help people in other countries that do not have water.

We are so lucky to have a lot of water in America. I feel so bad for the countries with little water or no water at all you die without it. I also did not know that ground water produces the most water for humans and animals to drink from. I thought that the water we drank came from resivours not the ground.There is much more water stored in the ground then any other place we know.

I agree with you Avacado because I too think that we are very lucky to have the water we have today. I think that in many places, water is a major issue. Fortunately, some areas have fixed this problem however some have not. In very dry areas or even islands surrounded by water, fresh water is a huge dilemma. Knowing how little water is fresh water and how we have a decent amount of it, I realize how lucky we are as a region.

I agree with you that we are incredibly lucky to have the natural resources that we do. As you said, countries like Haiti are having huge problems because of lack of water. That is why we are very lucky to live where we live.

A lot of people take it for granted. They don't realize how important water actually is to us. We all think the supply of water that we use for everything in our everyday lives is just what everyone else has too. But we are lucky enough to be able to have fresh drinking water in our lives. Some people in the world don't get that opportunity to use clean water for showering, drinking, swimming, etc. Water is one of the most essential things that we need in life and more people should think about how good we have it.

I agree with you. We are very fortunate to have the amount of water that we do here in Connecticut. In many places, people would die to just get a bit of clean or even dirty water to drink. We have it all right next to us, a few steps to the sink or fridge, and you get a glass of water. But for others, it's no where near like that. It's a lot different. To live in a condition with such low water supply would be very hard, and I can't imagine how it is for some people.

@JMM126, I agree with you because I don't think most people realize how well we have it. People in Haiti have to walk 2+ miles to get a little amount of dirty water, not even fresh water. All we have to do is turn a handle on the sink and tons of clean, fresh water comes out. I , too, realize how lucky enough we are in CT to have enough water when we need it. We shouldn't take it for granted. That is why I agree with you.

I think we don't use our water carefully and waste a lot of it, when a kid somewhere else would die for a glass of fresh water. In the article when it said, "We used about 328 billion gallons per day of surface water and about 82.6 billion gallons per day of groundwater", that's a crazy amount of water. We should being more careful with out water and not waste as much.

We are very lucky to have clean water. In other places in the world they have dirty water and they have to walk 2 miles to get it. They're is only a certain amount of water in the world and some places don't get any. We should be thankful for what we have.

alcatrazjail said...

@Anonymous I agree with you. I also think that we waste a lot of our water. Whenever someone waits for the water to get cold once they turn on their tap is just wasting water.

I don't care if we have water here. I don't want to live here. Who cares if we have a stupid drought? They're other things to drink. We shouldn't be water our lawns anyway, letting stuff grow naturally is better for the environment. I think it's really lame that people think Connecticut is a good place to live just because we don't have droughts. A lot of people deal with droughts and probably have better schools, more culture, more diversity. I don't think we need to take care of our supply of fresh water. We need to decrease population. Instead of trying to preserve water, we should just let people get abortions and give out birth control so there weren't so many people in the world so we don't run out of water. In fact, with the technology we have no there's no reason we can't give our wonderful Connecticut water to people in different climates. the only reason we can't do that is because there are so many people .

I agree with what you said earlier. In America and espeacailly in Connecticut, that we don't have to walk for 2 hours in the blistering sun to get dirty water to drink. We are all incredibly privileged that we don't have to deal with droughts and with the fact that we can just turn on a faucet and get clean water to drink whenever we want really is such a huge thing that we take for granted all the time. I think everyone should make a big ere effort to take shorter showers and try to see the value in every drop of water we have,

I also thought that this article was very insightful because it really explains how much we are taking the simplest things like water for granted, as everyone has said. In the article it said, "The vast majority of water on the Earth's surface, over 96 percent, is saline water in the oceans." The article also said, "But it is the freshwater resources, such as the water in streams, rivers, lakes, and groundwater that provide people (and all life) with most of the water they need every day to live." Therefore, since most of the percentage of water on Earth isn't even water that people can drink, we should be grateful that we even have water to use.

@Language Arts Student
I also share your opinion because you said that people that live in Connecticut appreciate the things we have, like water. You said, " In the article it says and shows how we CT residents are lucky to be were we are because of the small things that we have like water (fresh)." You also said, " This is clearly showen with a simple natural resource like water in CT there is so much water that we don't have to worry. But then there are states like Arizona were there is basically no water and everything is bone dry". Therefore, since I also had the same idea of this as I was reading the article, i agree with your comment.

I think that we are lucky to have clean water that is retily availible because some states have to get it from far places but we have it right in out backyard or near our house like at a pond this is why i think we are lucky we have fresh water

I agree with man on the moon becasue i always hated living in CT but now noticing that some places have to walk miles for a little water and we can just getting it from our kithen sink we are very lucky this is why i agree with man on the moon,

Our town is lucky to have clean water. Many towns in the USA and all over the world do not have this basic item. Water is used to bath, clean clothes, and for cooking and drinking. Without water, you can get dehydrated and die. We take water for granted.

I too was surprised that the majority of the water on earth is salty water, and definitely not the type we need to live. We are so fortunate to be able to drive to Big Y and get battles and bottles of fresh water. In fact, the water from our facets is very good in quality. I believe there are machines that can take the salt out of water. Maybe they can be used to help countries that do not have enough fresh water.

I believe that Connecticut is extremely lucky to have the possibility of experiencing a surplus in the water supply. A lot of other people are talking about how Arizona and Mississippi have limited water and they do. They have a dry climate and landscape. I also believe that going out of the United States, not many people realize that in South America and such, they have barely any water and it is a rarity to have at least some clean water. I believe we do not appreciate what we have and we take our stuff for granted. Some people take 1 to even 2 hour long showers, when other people rarely even get 2 minute showers, let alone get clean drinking water. I think that people should start to realize and appreciate what we have in our everyday lives.

@Imagine11
I agree with you. I also found interesting that 96% of the Earth's water is salt water and we can't drink that. I thought that it was very important for people to realize that we are really lucky to be able to get bottled water from grocery stores and to access clean tap water unlike other places on Earth, even America. I think that people should start appreciating the items they are granted with, considering the fact that other people and places go not get access to the things we do and that we are far more lucky than some others.

I think living in Connecticut, New Jersey, and other places that offered fresh water I always took it for granted and never really cared about it because it was always offered but reading this article has changed my perspective because I realize how lucky we really are. There are many places throughout the world where people have to walk miles just to get a cup of fresh water for themselves and that's not right. Why should we get more than we need when they get none? There are even places in the US that don't have fresh water sometimes and that's a little scary to think.

@Language Arts Student, I agree with you that we take things for granted because we have such great lives. For example, I use to complain about how I didn't have an iphone and after reading this I realize how much of a brat I was being because there are some places that don't even have WATER. The thing we drink everyday and act like it's nothing. We can walk out to the hall and get it whenever we please while some people have to carry buckets for miles just so their families can drink something fresh.

I was amazed at the ratio of fresh surface water and fresh ground water. According to the article, "of the freshwater on Earth, much more is stored in the ground than is available in lakes and rivers." This is fascinating because to us, the lakes such as the great lakes or rivers like the Mississippi river hold great amounts of freshwater, but there is much more water than that beneath the surface of the earth. In fact, if all the freshwater in groundwater were to be put into a sphere, the diameter would be 169.5 miles while the diameter of a sphere holding fresh surface water in lakes and rivers would be only 34.9 miles across. This is interesting to know that there is more water, miles below human reach than the water on the surface.

CandyS. said...

I have always lived in places where obtaining freshwater was not a problem. However I have often taken that for granted, or sometimes even abused that privilege. I never thought about where the water comes from when I turn on a tap or took a shower. I used to run the tap for a long time while brushing my teeth or washing my hands. After reading this article and realizing how there is such a little amount of water on the surface available to humans, I realized I was very lucky. There are people as close as the western United States, or as far as Africa who are facing water problems. Either they die of thirst, drink dirty water, or have to find a means to pull water out of the ground which could be too expensive for some. I realized that everyone in the world is using the same surface water as I am, and that I should start saving water. From now on, I will be careful of my fresh water use and try to help others such as my sister or mother and father to be more careful with their water usage as well.

i personally think that the people in Ct take our fresh water supply for granted. i think that this is because we have so much of it. people don't normally see how little fresh water other people have and they just use up so much of their own. i think that if the people in CT continue to take the freash water supply for granted that it will eventually run out.

I am surprised to figure out that all of the fresh water on Earth can barely cover Kentucky. That almost makes me nervous because that is not a lot when you look at it. According to an article I saw, only about 1 percent of all water is fresh.

@Cav 98
I agree because I do believe we take fresh water for granted. Most people don't believe we'll ever run out of fresh water ever, and they could easily be wrong.
