Questions Questions
Your best resource for success in LA this year are those people that go to class with you every day and encounter the same challenges and difficulties as you do. Some of these people have found strategies to help them succeed. This post is a place for you to ask and answer questions that pertain to anything that will help you succeed. This could be anything from "I was sick on Tuesday...what did we do in class?" to "I can't figure out how to create a simile. Does anybody have a trick?" Whatever your question is, post it here and make sure to check back frequently for answers as well as to answer questions for others.

Does anyone have good strategies for generating leads? It is one of my writing goals and I need to make my writing better by having a very effective lead.
It really has to pull the reader in and make them ask questions. Remember, when you read it, ask yourself if you would want to keep reading or are you bored and not interested (put yourself in the readers shoes). I suggest you make it something simple because that will make the reader generate more questions. Dialougue could be interesting as well. Also try looking some things up on the internet. Hope this helps!

What makes a good lead
The main strategy we've learned so far for good leads is getting the reader interested by making them ask a question. For example, the lead in "The Angel Experiment" is, "The funny thing about facing imminent death is that it really snaps everything into perspective. Take right now, for instance." The reader is wondering why the character is facing imminent death.
Does anyone have any tricks to writing a metaphor?? I think those are the hardest out of them all. i never know what words to use in the comparison.
In answer to Kim's question, I think that a good conclusion depends on what type of story your writing! If you are writing mystery I think you should end with a complete shocker that no one expects so you can really end strong! If you are writing something else like a love story, then I think you should have a sweet ending, but also a twist that is unusual. I don’t think know if this will help you but I hope it does!!!! :)
This is an answer for brookes question. Yes, metaphors can be hard to write and find in stories. I think of it as a simile without the like or as. If you are having trouble writing a metaphor, first do a smilie and take out the like or as. For example: "The snow was like a giant white blanket on the ground." If you take out the like it would be: "The snow was a giant white blanket on the ground." I am not really sure if this makes sense for certain similies but it could work for some things. Hope this kind of helps!

I need help writing a better ending to something that I wrote last year. It had a predicable ending and I'm not sure how to fix it and make it more interesting. It’s about how this little girl who gets taken from her family and her sister needs to find out who the kidnapper is. Does anyone have an idea on how I could finish off the story???

Any ideas for writing a poem?
To write a poem, you need to know EXACTLY what you want to write and traits of it, like how it feels, taste, smells, etc. Then write down ideas that come to mind when you think of the topic. You then just need to use your ideas and put them in clear sentences. After using the right word and completing many drafts, your poem will be complete.
My writing goal is foreshadowing, or emphasis when talking about expository and persuasive. But i'm having trouble, anyone have any tips?
