Some Strange Snow

Seeing as how we have not had a single snowflake this year I figured I would give you guys a chance to see some snow that isn't so much fun.  How weird is this?

with this economy why make snow it just means the town now has to buy salt and pay for the labor, gas, and repairs! people, if your budget is big enough to buy fake snow, why not repair the roads and hire more electric crews?!?

Peter P said...

I believe that this is very odd because at least you can drive in snow and not in the foam. For example, the article said, " Strong winds toss the foam around, making driving and even walking quite hazardous." On the other hand though, people also have fun in both snow and foam. That's why foam is very odd compared to snow.

Peter P said...

@Ryan
I disagree with you because your paragraph had nothing to do with the article. You were talking about fake snow and how towns should hire more electric crews and fix roads. That's why I believe that your paragraph made no sense at all.

ShyWolf32 said...

I believe that it is not very odd, because if you live by the coast, the foam stuff comes all the time, but not that much of it compared to the article. This also not odd because this probauly happen more than once if you lived there so it really isn't wierd.

ShyWolf32 said...

@ Peter P. I agree with you that you can drive in the snow and not in the foam. The foam could go in the under side of the car and damge something, this can happen with snow to but its less likey. I also agree with you that people have fun in the snow and the foam, becauase it must be pretty fun to surf with all the foam.

MRAjGE said...

@Peter P
I agree Ryan's entry has nothing to do with the topic, probably because he didn't fully understand the article. For example, Ryan said,"People, if your budget is big enough to buy fake snow, why not repair the roads and hire more electric crews?!?" I think he didn't understand the article because the substance wasn't fake snow. The substance was "wet, soapy, foam" that was blown from the ocean. Since Ryan mentions things irrelevant to the article, I think he maybe didn't read the article correctly or didn't understand the article.

Unknown said...

I don't think that having foam coming from the ocean is odd because wakes are caused by waves so some foam might blow to land. But the amount that blew onto Cleveleys was ridiculous. There was so much that the roads were hazardous. Even though some foam may blow onto land, the amount they got was surprising. That's why I think that this article was weird but interesting.

Pandanut12 said...

I think that the kids in the area would be thrilled to have this happen because it rarely ever snows there. I know this because the Cleveleys and New South Whales are down by Australia where it is warm, and where snow cannot fall. The children there probably wonder what it's like here, where we get snow every year, and the sea foam shower gives them a chance. This is why the children would be thrilled.

Pandanut12 said...

@ShyWolf32
I disagree because a costal town in New England does not get rained on by foam. I know this because if this did happen, we would all hear about it on the news. Since we (or at least I) have heard nothing of the sort, costal New England towns do not get foam showers.

Unknown said...

@MRAjGE
I agree that Ryan's comment gets off topic. This might have happened because he didn't fully understand the article. I say this because he thinks that the town made snow and they have to buy salt to get it to melt. But that's wrong because the town didn't buy fake snow, the foam was carried by the wind onto land. Also, the foam disappears by itself in a few days. In the end of his comment, he said "people, if your budget is big enough to buy fake snow, why not repair the roads and hire more electric crews?!?". The article wasn't about the budget of the town to buy snow so he got off topic. Since the foam came by wind from the ocean, the town didn't have to pay anything extra. So I agree with MRAjGE because Ryan's comment got off topic since the article wasn't about a town buying fake snow.

I honsetly think that this is pretty weird. I have not seen anything like this in my whole life. It looks like a milkshake that wasnt churned enough. If I ever saw stuff like this in connecticut i would probably stay away from it. Even though it said in the article that it wasnt poisnonus, I am not taking any chances.This stuff was pretty weird. All foamy and rabid like.

RyanT said...

@Ryan

I do not agree with you. This is because your comment had nothing to do with the subject that Horvath gave us. He asked for our opinion on what we thought of this REAL snow and you started talking about fake snow and electrical stuff.Why would towns pay for fake snow anyway, what was in the article was obviosly real. Overall your comment had nothing to do with the subject.

marktex5025 said...

I wouldn't like to have this kind of weather because it would increase the chance of people who are important to me getting into accidents. If there's lots of wet, slippery foam on the road, then a car could slip, causing the drivers to get in an accident. Therefore, the roads would be unsafe to drive on, and if I or someone I know had to go out for something, they could get into a bad car accident.

marktex5025 said...

@Ryan T
I agree that this is really weird because I've never seen or heard about anything like this in my life. Sure I've heard about oil spills, and blizzards, and things of that nature. But never something like this!!! Therefore, something like a "foam storm" is strange to me because I've never heard of something like it, and generally, something that is new to someone is strange.

Anirbas said...

I would love to have foam "snow" at least once. Even though the article said it was annoying to have to live with, it also said that it wasn't toxic, and that some people had a lot of fun with it. That's why I think it would be cool if Monroe could experience it at least once.

Anirbas said...

I disagree with marktex5025, who said "I wouldn't like to have this kind of weather because it would increase the chance of people who are important to me getting into accidents..." I agree that this weather would be dangerous, but so is snow, which is something that we usually have to live with every year. Other weather we experience is dangerous too. Even rain could be harmful if you slip in a puddle, or your car slides. Because of this, I think foam should not be thought of as very dangerous if we have so many other types of dangerous weather that we don't really pay attention to.

Sir Awesome said...

This is absolutely bizarre. I think this is quite possibly the strangest thing I have seen in a while because it is such an unlikely thing. I mean how many people can say that their house is covered in not snow, but foam. This really is a remarkable circumstance. "However, the winter wonderland was not caused by snow, but wet soapy foam that had blown in from the ocean." This is uncommon, even for the residents. That is why I think that this happening is so bizarre.

Sir Awesome said...

@Unknown
I disagree with you because foam from the ocean is a strange thing. We live by the ocean, but do we ever get crazy foam like that. No. That is why I think that ridiculous amounts of foam from the sea really is not that all that common.

Katelyn O. said...

: I have never seen anything like this! It is like snow from the ocean basically! In the picture of the boy coming out covered in it, it looks like a mixture of snow/ocean. I don’t know if I would even go near that mess, seeing as though it might become a wave like substance. This probably would be unlikely, but that’s defiantly what I would be thinking walking closer to the big glob! I think this is very strange, but I guess their lucky they had some snow! (Or maybe it’s just foaminess!)

Katelyn O. said...

I also agree with you that this is very bizarre, I have never seen anything like this at all! Since the foam started building up everywhere it looked like some big bubbly snow storm! The foam was literally ever where, and I now know how it would be hard to drive in that uncommon type of weather! This is why I also agree that this incident is very bizarre!

Ghost said...

I believe this is quite normal for Britain because they are somewhat close to north pole and they have many oceans/seas near them. The scientific reason why this happened because The clouds that were ready to snow on Britain must've picked up more humidity and water from nearby lakes therefore making the snow lighter and warmer.What happens when snow is warmer it melts and expands drastically. The humidity must have had to drop out of the cloud when it got colder because the climate got colder and humidity was starting to cease away but the snow was still expanded and somewhat warm making: FOAM!!!!

Ghost said...

@ Ryan Your paragraph had nothing to do with the article and on top of that it made no sense! You talked about fake snow and electrical workers but the topic was on how weird is the foamy snow.Overall you should erase you first entry and write another on the topic.

Matt W. said...

@Katelyn O. I agree with you that seeing all of this foam is certainly odd and not normal. It is certainly not a normal ting that would happen to a town. If this happened to me I would definitely freak out!

u don't know me said...

I think this is extremeley odd. This is probably becuase I have merely not heard of anything like this before. Therefore, becuase I am new to this phenomenon, I think it is extremley odd.

u don't know me said...

@Ghost
I will have to disagree with you when say that the this is normal for Britain and that this area is close to the North Pole. In the video about the town of Clevelys in the foam, it was obvious that they were just as amazed and unused to the foam as we are. Also, the UK is 2620 miles from the North Pole. Therefore, becuase you are incorrect about the normality of this foam and the location of the UK to the North Pole, I will ahve to disagree with you.

Imagine11 said...

I believe that this occurrence is very strange yet fascinating because how many times do people really see something to this extent that can be so dangerous, but go away without much work? In the article it said that, "While it does appear to be quite magical, the residents of this town were not too thrilled with this foamy mess that seems to engulf the region once or twice every year. That's because the strong winds toss the foam around, making driving and even walking quite hazardous." The article also said that, "The good news is that it only lasts a few days before disappearing into thin air." Therefore, this shows that this strange occurrence truly is a very weird happening, even if there is an explanation, and can also be very dangerous.

Imagine11 said...

@Ryan

Am I not understanding you correctly or am I right in saying that your comment is completely off topic because, to me, it has nothing to do with this article. You said that, "With this economy why make snow it just means the town now has to buy salt and pay for the labor, gas, and repairs!" You also said, "People, if your budget is big enough to buy fake snow, why not repair the roads and hire more electric crews?!?" So, since this article is more about how the town of Cleveleys got foam instead of snow because it blew in from the sea, I don't think you really understood the article that well.

maia m said...

I have no idea what to say to this because i have never heard of anything even remotely similar to this i think this must not happen often or in the US so that is why i have a hard time making a real comment but hopefully it will count.

Sweet said...

I agree with maia m because she also had no idea what to say to this. I am blank, lost and confused. Who has ever heard of foamy snow?!?!?!?!?!
I mean really, it's foamy! How does it come out of the sky? FOAMY?

StephanieZ said...

Wow. This is pretty interesting. I think that his is very unusual. I'm sitting here in the middle of my warm cozy living room in the middle of January, and there is no snow whatsoever outside. We would probably think that having foam would be fun, but I realize that this is actually a problem for the town. But actually, now that I look at it, it turns out that the foam is not toxic. It just causes problems because its slippery, but anyways. I think that this is unusual because I have never seen this before. This really happens almost anywhere every year, but with a tiny, tiny amount which does not blow anywhere but stays at sea. This is why I think this is very weird.

!DANCE! said...

I think that this is very strange. I think this because we do not usually hear this anywhere and it is not popular or common to have foam "storms". I think that a lot of peoria in Monroe would think that this is weird because this would not happen here in Monroe. At least it would not be common for it to happen. At his time of year it is also strange for this to happen instead of snow. That is why I think that this situation is strange.

!DANCE! said...

@ StephanieZ
I agree with you when you said that you think that it is weird because you did not experience it. I agree with you because I think that mainly everybody thinks that it is weird because of that reason. People usually think things are wield because they did not try it or have been through it. Just like with trying new foods you think that it is gross until you try it and realize that it is good. That is why I agree with you saying how think that it is weird because you did not try it.

JMM126 said...

I think this is very odd becasue it looks like mounds of slush. I never experienced such damage in my life which makes this quite interesting. It is outrageous how much snow they have gotten already!

I believe that this is very odd because It just looks like that. I would and wouldn't enjoy being in this soapy, foamy mess. I wouldn't because it would smell like the ocean everywhere. Also because nobody would want to drive in that and if you walked you would get all wet and soapy. I would enjoy this because I mean if i never get snow i would be very grateful for this "snow"

JMM126 said...

@Imagine11
I agree with you because this storm if very fasinating yet, it is very dangerous to the ones who were caught in the storm. Like the man and the cars rolling down the road into crashes. Therefore, I agree with you because it is yet fasinating but harmful to many.

spongebob said...

I believe that this snow foam is very strange because it's not normal. Most places don't do that. It's probably gross to play in this foamy mess. I think this is strange because in colder places, it snows and we are use to it. If we lived in a warmer area and one year decided to have this soapy foam everywhere, its not normal. It would be hard to drive in, walk in, and it's not comfortable to have wet foam on your body. Also, somebody may eat it by accident,and they could become very ill.

JVG412 said...

This foam is extremely abnormal compared to our new England snow. I didn't know this occured naturally in the earth. It was shocking to see the boy coming out of the foam. It looks kind of fun. I've seen sea foam, but not like this...

CandyS. said...

I believe that this is very odd, foam usually come from the ocean but usually on that much! This foam is covering everything, In some places it is even 5 feet high! People are driving and have to put windshield wipers to see through the swirling foam. What is even more peculiar is that the foam disappears into thin air in 3-4 days. These kind of things usually don't happen in the world. Therefore, since the foam is piled high and can be seen everywhere in that town, I believe it is a very odd circumstance.

Anonymous said...

It looks like the kids of this town are having some fun while the adults are stuck in sticky, masses of foam. I believe this because in one of the photographs there is a child prancing through the foam like its his job. He seems to be enjoying it while it states, "strong winds toss the foam around, making driving and even walking quite hazardous." followed by an above picture showing the disastrous conditions an adult is under while attempting to drive. This shows how many children are thrilled about the "snow" and many adults are not because of the hazardous conditions this strange natural occurrence causes.

DR. Bubblesquash said...

I think that this is strange because, even though this town is near the coast, it happens once or twice every year, like it's supposed to happen.

DR. Bubblesquash said...

@ Peter P I agree with you we always complain about how it's so hard to drive in the snow, well they can barely drive at all!

Incompetent Nub said...

I do not think that this article has anything to do with why snow isnt fun. I think this because on the webpage, it was talking about sea foam and that is not snow. The sea foam is just decayed algae. Algae and snow are two totally different things.

Marissa S said...

I think this is very werid. This is because I have never heard of foam blowing from the ocean and creating a storm. Also this is werid because the foam looked a lot like snow when it was falling and blowing around. This type of storm has never occured in Monroe so I think it's werid because I have never experienced anything like it. I think this is werid because I have never heard of it.

Marissa S. said...

@ Katelyn O. I agree with you it is like snow. It is white and looks thick like snow. If you take a quick glance at it it's not hard to mistake it for snaow. It's werid that sea foam could look so much like snow that it blew from the ocean.

BH said...

I feel bad for the people who live in this area because it is clear that it is hazardous to drive in. Also, it looks like there is a lot more here than how much snow we get because there was a picture of a kid who was half the height of a mountain of the stuff.

BH said...

@Peter P
I agree with you that foam is more odd than snow because it is obvious that you cannot drive or even walk in this foam. But you can drive in snow, though it is a little bit harder.

usawildcat11 said...

I think that this is verry odd! I read all of the sub titles and I was confused once I saw that video. I didnt even realize it was sea foam! That is so weird. I wonder what could haven caused this?

usawildcat11 said...

Marissa S said...
obviously we have never seen somthing like this in monroe because we dont live on the coast with an ocean. the closest we have to an ocean is aybe the wolf park lake. it does give off foam but not nearly enough to cause something like this.

Anonymous said...

It's weird cause when you think of winter you think of like a foot of snow and sleding and snowboarding. But with no snow it truly dint feel like christmas when it passed. It also wasn't as fun cause there was no snow.

Anonymous said...

I agree with marissa cause who as ever heard of foam coming from the ocean but it looked like snow. Thats interesting but weird to at the same time.

The1 said...

@ Anonymous, I agree with you because when we Americans think of december, Christmas, or just winter in general, the image of snow appears in our mind. This year, we did not receive those little frozen peices of water coming from the sky that we all know and love, and they usually carry christmas spirit. Such feelings are often paired with snow, as expressed in the song "White Christmas"

spongebob said...

@Ryan, I disagree with you. You were talking about the budget? Which had nothing to do with this article. This was about fake snow/foam. I don't understand what you are trying to say. This is why I disagree with you.

whencupcakesattack said...

I believe this is quite odd in some ways. Many people are saying this is fake snow, but this is foam, from the ocean. It is natural. I find it normal at times because when you are a seaside town, like the place in the article, you see this foam all over the place. Even if you were to go to one of your local beaches, you will see this foam. The thing I find really odd about this is that there is SO MUCH OF IT!! It covers all the streets, the beaches, basically it covers the whole town from head to toe. This is a very unnatural amount of foam, making it seem very odd.

whencupcakesattack said...

@Ryan
I strongly disagree with you. You are saying that this is artificial foam, and that they shouldn't waste money on this. Obviously you didn't read the article, because it clearly states that this "snow" is actually natural foam from the ocean. They are a seaside town, so it swept right into their streets from the strong winds. I do agree that they shouldn't waste money on artificial snow, but in this case, it isn't even close to "fake snow" let alone real snow. It is just a lot of ocean foam.

Anonymous said...

I think that it is very weird because we had snow in October and no snow in December.

Muffin Man 101 said...

I think that this is a crazy idea. Fake snow is stupid thing to waste money on. It is like paying for something that will do harm. Even though they say it is foam it is still fake. Its like saying McDonald's is food but it is still fake and processed.

Evan F said...

@ Ryan
I disagree with you because your paragraph had nothing to do with the article. You were talking about fake snow and how towns should hire more electric crews and fix road which has nothing to do with the article so I think you missed the concept .

Isabelle G. said...

This is a very peculiar phenomenon. This event does not occur very often and not anywhere else. It must be a large nuisance to the town because since it is such an uncommon thing they probably do not really know how to get rid of it before the fam clears in three days. This means many people must put there lives on hold during this town. This is why the foam snow is a very peculiar and annoying event.

Isabelle G. said...

@JMM126
I have to agree with you the foam is a very fascinating but dangerous thing. It must be espacially dangerous to people who are not from that region because they will probably be curiosly fascinated by this foamy snow and go out and explore causing accidents in this storm. I know that is probably what would happen to me if I wasn't properly educated on this foamy danger.

Hayley M said...

I think that this is very weird because I've never heard of that much foam going onto an entire city. I know that sometimes foam from the ocean may go onto the beach and fade away after a while but I didn't know it could cover an entire town. The article said it was hazardeous for both walking and driving, which is very different from snow. It is sometimes un-safe to drive in the snow but not always and it's okay to walk in the snow if you are warm enough.

Hayley M said...

@whencupcakesattack, I agree with you. This is very weird because there is a lot of it. I didn't realize there could be so much that it could cover a whole town!

Sarah G. said...

I think that this is very strange because i have never seen anything like this in my life. In all the history of monroe i don't think that this has ever happened. Since i have never lived anywhere in the world but the house i live in now i have never seen something even remotely close to this. Also, We are not that close to the ocean so it would be hard to get this ocean foam closer inland than this town. This is why i think that this snow/foammy stuff is very strange.

Sarah G. said...

@Hayley M. i agree with you when you say that this snow could possibly be hazardous to the general public. Not only would this foam effect you with driving and such but if it were to get into your homes. Also this is dangerous because i am pretty sure that you could drown in this if you get bought under the foam and can't get up to access some kind of air. This is why is why i agreed with hayley when she said that this foam could be hazardous to the public.

Muffin Man 101 said...

@SarahG
I agree with you because it can hurt people. If you are driving and foam fly's into your face it will impair your driving and you could most likely crash. There would be too many cons of the fake snow for it to be a good idea. Your wasting lots of money to cover a town in foam just so they could have snow. This is crazy madness. You also cant play in the snow because it is foam. You would have to re plow the roads, not play with it and clean up after it. It doesn't look enough like snow to cover the town in it. It would just create more work for themselves. I don't think that kids would even like it. Again this idea makes no sense.

bieberlover10 said...

I think that snow can be fun but too much can hurt. I think this because you can snowboard, sled, aand have snow ball fights. But when you hit record snow, it is annoying because it can take away school, and damage a lot of places. But when there is foam from the ocean, you never know where it has been, and it is dirty. While snow comes from the sky hits the groind and there you have a snow storm. That is how I feel about this article.

bieberlover10 said...

@ Hayley M...
I agree with you because here in Connecticut we are used to snow, not foam. Alaso, how does ocean foam cover an entire town? Very different. That is why I agree with you.

panthers502 said...

that is a weird thing to do. you would have to be desperate to do that. if you wanted snow that bad, pack you're bags, get on a plane, and MOVE TO ALASKA! they get plenty of snow!!!

panthers502 said...

also, snow is fun, but you shuold wait for real snow because when you get cold, you can go in side and have your self a nice warm steaming cup of hot cocoa! so lets wait for real snow..

KirillR98 said...

This is the strangest snow like thing that I have heard about because people can get around in snow but these people can't get around easily with all this sea foam. The article said, " Strong winds toss the foam around, making driving and walking hazardous." Most people still have a good time in snow, so these people probably have fun in the foam. This is why sea foam is strange compared to snow.

KirillR98 said...

@marktex5025
I agree with you because this kind of weather might cause people I care about to get into major accidents. In the article it said that it was "wet, slippery foam" making the chance of getting into a car accident much higher. This would make roads extremely unsafe to drive on.

KirillR98 said...

@Anirbas
I disagree with you because Monroe is too far away from the coastal shore to get anything like this. Only towns right next to major bodies of water would get this kind of weather. This foam came from the ocean, not from the clouds above us. So, overall, I don't think Monroe would even get close to this kind of weather.

G-MAN said...

I believe this "snow" is very odd because it is not actual snow. This "snow" is actually foam created from decaying algal matter which is something I have never heard of. It seems it could be very dangerous and may stop cars like when a city gets flooded due to rain and it could even make walking hazardous. Although local residents do not like it very much I think it would be cool to have that and just play around in the foam. The people of New South Wales in Australia enjoy it and the boy in the picture looks like he might be taking a bath in it or riding the waves like at a beach! In conclusion, I think this "snow" is very odd because it is actually a fun wet foam that you can drive through and walk in.

Lauren said...

I believe this so called snow looks very dangerous because it would be hard to see when your driving since it is so easily blown everywhere. Also it could cost the city a lot of money for salt to put on the slick roads and for repair to buildings that might have been damaged.

Lauren said...

@G-MAN I disagree with you because I don't think it would be "cool" to have it because it could cause accidents, on the roads since it would be hard to see. Also it wouldn't be so much fun to play in it like you do regular snow because it would stick to you and since it came from the sea it would have salt in it. (which wouldn't be fun to get in your mouth.

KirillR98 said...

@Ryan
I disagree with you because your comment had nothing to do with the actual article. The article said that the "snow" was actually sea foam, not fake snow. So all that paying for salt and hiring more workers made no sense at all.

KirillR98 said...

@Lauren
I disagree with you because you said that it could cost the city a lot of money for salt to put on the slick roads and for repair to buildings that might have been damaged. In the article it said that "the foam is there for a few days, then disappears into thin air." So, the city would just have to wait a few days so the foam could just evaporate.
