Once Upon a Time...

"If you want your children to be bright, read them fairytales.  If you want them to be brilliant, read them even more fairytales." - Albert Einstein

What does this quote mean to you?  How does reading fiction make you "bright" or even "brilliant"?

I think that reading fiction makes someone brilliant because they have ideas in their mind when they are older. Always read fairy tales when I was younger. I still have the ideas from those books today and always refer back to them.

I believe this quote emphasized the importance of creativity. Einstein is saying that to truly be brilliant, one must be creative and imaginative. He says "If you want them to be brilliant, read them even more fairytales." He does not talk about making them study hard or memorize anything. He is talking about opening up the mind to imagination. Therefore this quote is saying that creativity is important.

edemace said...

I think albert einstein is saying if you broaden you horizons and use your imaginations you could learn more. Also when talking about imagination it opens up the mind for a lot more stuff then just fairytales

edemace said...

@steve1
i agree with you about thinking back on those times and ideas and think of the ideas and use them

I think this quote means not that you should read your kids fairy tails but to teach them thing in a different way then others and make them think differently.

Brian C said...

I think that this quote means parents should open other worlds to their kids. I think this because the more a child experiences the more the child learns. This is because they learn from experience and then more experience.

I think that this quote means that fairy tales aren't just fiction. They have morals that can be learned from. These morals can also teach lessons. For example, the story "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" teaches young children the lesson not to lie. If you do, people will stop believing and trusting you. So in conclusion, fiction makes you smarter because it teaches you life lessons and morals. These can make you bright or brilliant because of this.

I agree with you that this quote may mean that creativity is important. To be creative, you don't need to study anything, you just need to learn. Einstein didn't think that kids should study hard, just for them to be read fairy tales. Since fairy tales aren't real, it gives them ideas and imagination of things that can't happen. Ideas and imagination both lead to creativity. That's why I think that you are right.

KirillR98 said...

I think this quote means that children who have fairy tales read to them have minds that think in a different way from kids who don't have fairy tales read to them. When I was a little kid, I had a lot of fairy tales read to me and later in life, people told me I had a very creative mind. That means that Albert Einstein is right once again.

KirillR98 said...

@CandyS.
I agree with you because studying makes a child lose his/her creativeness bit by bit. So, the more fairy tales we read, the more imaginative we are and the more ideas we have. Just like CandyS. said "ideas and imagination lead to creativity" which is important for children.

Sweet said...

I think that Albert Einstein is trying to say is that if you read fairytales to your kids then they will have a lot of creativity because of being told about fairies, rainbow unicorns and other mythical people.

Nosferatu said...

I think that this means that kids should have ideas in their minds. I think that most kids when they are young should be acknowledged to many books. Little kids don't have a large imagination, so people made fairy tales to give little kids ideas of things.

Sweet said...

@Brian C
I agree with Brian C because he said that parents should open other worlds to their kids and the more a child experiences the more the child learns. This is all true!

Brian C said...

@ Sweet
I agree because fairy tails do have a lot of creativity and that rubs off onto kids.

this quote (i think) means myths don't hurt us.. they give us a sense of child hood; a memory to remember when we get older. i think it means this because fairy tales are myths and more of them won't hurt you. this proves it because i think that myths won't hurt you and think this is what it means.

singdncelive said...

i think that this quote mens that kids can get ideas and learn creativity from fairy tales. there is i show on ABC called Once Upon A Time and it is inspired by and based on fairy tales. i think that the creator probably got ideas from those fairy tales that were read to him/her or that he/she read.

Emma said...

I think that fiction makes you really think about what is going on and what is going to come next. It helps you to wonder and think out side the box. I feel reading fairytale or fiction can really help younge readers become interested in books beacuse of the characters or the theme.

Emma said...

Brian C said...
"You learn more from experience and more experience" I agree with him because, the child will be opened up to new things and new types of books. It will expan there learning and help them to understanding fantasy.

Man on the Moon said...

I think this makes you brilliant because when you read kids fairy tales it opens up there imaginations.
For example if you read children fairy tales they expand there imagination because they discover dragons, pixies, pixie dust and knights who slay dragons. So when you do this you essentially let them know that you can do anything if they try because in these tales they try there hardest and succeed. Opening up imagination iss when you believe you do anything and every little squiggle turns into a line and turns into something amazing so when see there favorite characters such as Peter Pan and Robin Hood all succeed and try there best. They will to and if we all try we can succeed.

Man on the Moon said...

singdncelive I agree with you because I agree it helps there creativity. So if they learn to be more creative and use there imagination they will succeed because in this world of ever-expanding innovations you will need to think in a different way so you can innovate and create new things. So therefor if learn and gain more creativity you will learn how to think differently so you don't get the same ideas as someone else.

Nosferatu said...

I believe that this means that kids will lose their imagination bit by bit and need to be reminded. I think this because I always lose my imagination and refer back to what I remember. Like Steve1 said, He refers back to them when he/she is older. I also think back to the books and remind myself of what happened in the books.

Magicman523 said...

I think this quote means that if you want to be creative and smart you need something to help you. That something is fairy tale books. Fairy tales help your brain open up to a different world. They give you ideas,which can help you be " brilliant".

Anonymous said...

@KirillR98
I sort of agree with your statement, fairy tales are good for kids because they create/start a creative mind in a child. When we hear made-up stories, we take in the story to help spring all kinds of ideas into our heads. Which, in the long run, will help write more fiction stories, in the future.

Kevin O said...

I believe should be reminded that they will always have a great idea. That this means that kids should remember back to the stories. That is what I think that means.

Marissa S. said...

I think that that reading fairytales makes you bright because fairytales get you ready for real life situations. Knowing how to fiqure out lifes situations is important. It's importnat because you can be more independent and do things on your own. Fairytales don't teach you how to add or or how to write, they teach how to survive life.

Marissa S. said...

@Emma I agree with you fairytales help kids wonder and think outside the box. These tales help them to think outside the box because then you use your imaganation. Its important to thing about things in a different way, and fairytales allow you to do that. Thats why its important to think outside the box.

Kate O. said...

I think that fairy tales or fiction books bring out a side you never see in someone. It makes people believe in something that is actually unbelievable. This shows that people show something that you normally don't see in that person because fairy tales tell a story about what could happen, and this is very important in someones everyday life. This concludes that fairy tales do make you bright and also could make you brilliant!

Kate O. said...

@ Marissa S. I agree with you because fairy tales do help you in real life situations. They tell stories that are not really believable, but if they were to happen you would already be ready for them. This is very important in many peoples life! This is why I agree with your theory as well!

ShyWolf32 said...

I think this quate means if you want to be smart learn to read and write, and if you want to be really smart learn to read and write really well. I think this becuase when you read fairy tales to children they learn to read and when they can read, then they can learn to write. When you can read and write you can learn and become smart. When you can read and write really really well then you learn much more and become very very smart. To learn like, math and science you need to be able to read and write, and if you want to be really good at math and science then you need to be really good at reading and writing.

ShyWolf32 said...

@ Kate O I agree with you that fairy tales bring out a person's imagation and they can believe the un believeable, because imagation is the minds gratest tool. When you use them propley you can do anything possible and impossible.

Lauren said...

@ Kate O I agree with you because fairy tales do bring out a side of a person that they may not normally express. The fairy tales can help people relate to real life situations and the fiction story can put a spin on the ending or the outcome. Each fairy tale has its own twists and turns whether it be a evil witch or a hungry wolf. That's why fairy tales are important in life!

G-MAN said...

@ShyWolf32
I disagree with you because I don't think the quote means if you can read and write you are smart. The quote says that you should read fairytales if you want to be smart which don't always have the most difficult vocabulary or other things that make you a very good writer or reader. What is special about fairy tales is that when you read them you use your imagination. I believe Einstein is saying that people need imagination to be brilliant. Without imagination there is no difference between a machine and a human or a genius from a regular A student. Therefore, I disagree wity you because fairytales don't make you smart because they help you read and write, they make you smart because they develop your imagination.

RyanT. said...

I think that this quote means that fairytales can make children smarter. Reading fairytales can make you smart, bright and brilliant, because they give you a good perspective of the world. They tell you to belive that happy endings always come true. Doing that gives you belif that life will be AMAZING, then making you optimistic which can eventually make you smarter and give you a better life. Overall reading fairytales can make you bright or even brilliant.

RyanT. said...

@steve1

I agree. I was read fairytales when I was young. And I still have ideas from them in my head. Probably famous people become famous because of the ideas in their head from when they were little and were told fairytales. Fairytales do leave ideas in your head.

LittleMonster1028 said...

Reading fiction can make you smarter because of the real life story lines. For example, in the book Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, you learn not to judge someone by what they look like. Belle judged the beast negativity just by what he looked like, but in the end, the beast turned into a prince because Belle accepted him for who he was on the inside. This can enhance your mind because just because someone is not appealing on the outside doesn't mean that they are the same on the inside. Reading fairy tales give you an interesting twist on every day situations and help you make the right decision.

LittleMonster1028 said...

@Candy S.
I think there is more meaning to this quote than just being creative. You can't be successful in life by just being creative. In fact, some things you experience in life require you to be the opposite of creative. I think Eisenstein is saying that fairy tales put a creative twist on things that can happen to you in real life. By how the fairy tale ends, you will learn the right decision to make. Fairy tales to more than enhance you creativity--they enhance your cleverness.

bieberlover10 said...

I think reading fairytales can make you brilliant because they show
life from different perspectives. I think this is important because
looking at life with different perspectives can help you get through
hard times and make you more strong. That is why I think it will make
you more bright when you read fairytales

Anirbas said...

I think that this quote means that children who have creative minds are often very brilliant. Instead of coming up with an ordinary solution for something, people who have heard fairy tales may come up with a solution that seems so unique and different that nobody else would have thought of it. Because it is so unique, that person may be thought of as brilliant.

loverforever said...

@ LittleMonster1028..
I agree with you because fairytales teach you life lessons. This is important because they show us how to be in the heart and most fairytales are for young kids, so kids can go through there whole life acting like a good person. That is why I agree with you.

Anirbas said...

I agree with Marissa S. because she says that hearing fairy tales will get you ready for real life situations. Even though the characters and setting of a fairy tale are made up, the lessons they learn are very real. And many people have to deal with these lessons in the future. A person could easily be thought of as brilliant if they could easily deal with these situations.

NonStop said...

I think that Einstein was trying to say that if you read fairytales when you are older than you will have many ideas. I know this because as you grow and become an adult you start to lose your creativity and imagination. Reading fairytales helps keep that creativity alive and active.

NonStop said...

@Anirbus I agree with you I also think that reading fairytales will give you unique ideas nobody else will think off. I think that is useful when you get older because sometimes you might come to a problem that normal solutions might not work so instead If you use an abstract solution it might fix the problem.

I think that Albert Einstein was trying to say that reading fiction will help you become smarter. For example, he says, "If you want them to be brilliant, read them even more fairytales." I think that fiction/fairytales make kids think about whats happening in the book. They also must imagine what the made-up characters might look like. Since all these things challenge you brain, Einstein was trying to tell us that reading fiction is very good for young learners.

Jess M said...

To me Albert Einstein's quote means that there is a lot to learn from fiction and fairy tales even though they are fiction and fairy tales. In most fiction stories there is a lesson, so from reading these kind of stories you are learning about life. The theme of the story for example. The more and more stories you read the more and more lessons you learn and after a while you learn how to apply this to your life. So you can be very smart in life by the actions you make and the knowledge you have about life. And knowledge like that can be learned from stories.

Jess m said...

I agree with Emma when you said, "I think that fiction makes you really think about what is going on and what is going to come next. It helps you to wonder and think out side the box." i agree because stories show things that can really happen in life, and have realatable themes so people can have better ideas about how to handle life situations. So books can help give "advice" on what to do in life.

I think fiction makes you brilliant because it gets your mind thinking. "If you want them to be brilliant, read them even more fairytales." says that the more fairy tales you read, the smarter you'll be. The fairy tales make you think more which helps you become smarter. This increase in thinking is what makes fairy tales make you brilliant.

Anonymous said...

@Man on the Moon
You said, "I think this makes you brilliant because when you read kids fairy tales it opens up there imaginations." I agree with you that fairy tales make you brilliant because they open up your imagination. In my experience, fairy tales increase your creativity as well as imagination. They make you think about what could happen which only really happens with fiction, not non-fiction. Fiction really is special because it makes your creativity flow better than anything else.

u don't know me said...

This quotes to me means imagination is one of the most important things in life. You can be the smartest person in the world, but without creativity. Because fairy tales spark the imagination, your creativity and mind for problem solving will be hightened. Therefore, this quote means to me that imagination leads one down the road to brilliance.

G-MAN said...

I believe reading fiction makes you brilliant because it helps develop your imagination. When reading non-fiction you don't use your imagination as much because it is all real things you could witness in your life. Fantasy and fairy tales involve elements such as magic and anthropomorphism. This triggers a young reader’s imagination so that he or she can capture the story. Imagination makes someone bright or brilliant because it is needed to think out of the box. In life you need someone with imagination because that is what separates the acute from the obtuse and humans from machines. People like Einstein had great imaginations which is something he needed to come up with his theory of relativity. Therefore reading fiction makes you bright or brilliant because it develops your imagination.

Ali M. said...

I think in this quote they are trying to tell you, to be bright, and brilliant you need creativity and imagination. When I read fiction writing I always have a picture in my mind of what it would look like. When creating this picture in my mind I use my imagination, and creatively come up with the setting and characters. Imagination is needed in every day life for survival and creativity. With out imagination you would not be able to create new things in our world, and there would be no new technology or inventions. By reading fiction and using your creativity and imagination helps to make you a brilliant individual.

Ali M. said...

I agree with the G-man because he says that fairytales develop your imagination. One of his quotes was," Fantasy and fairy tales involve elements such as magic and anthropomorphism. " By using these elements it pushes kids creativity levels by having them imagine in their mind more complicated things. "People like Einstein had great imaginations which is something he needed to come up with his theory of relativity." He talks about how Einstein used his imagination to come up with his many great inventions and findings. By reading fiction it develops a kids imagination setting them up for a greater track in life.

Anonymous said...

I believe that Albert Einstein was saying through his quote that by reading your child fiction, it causes them to ask questions about the unknown and about their confusions towards the imaginary. It encourages them to use their imagination and test the unknown. I think he was saying this because when he says, "If you want them to be brilliant, read them even more fairytales." I believe brilliance is that of a creative individual who uses their imagination. If you do not ask questions you will not get answers, therefore you will not gain any intelligence.

Anonymous said...

I agree with G-MAN when he states, "I believe reading fiction makes you brilliant because it helps develop your imagination." I agree with this because reading fiction causes children to ask questions of their own and maybe even test them and get the answers. Asking questions and being able to answer them makes one smarter. In conclusion, when Albert Einstein said that fiction makes one brilliant is true because it makes one smarter.

I think that this quote does not refer to books. I think it is a metaphor. It probably means that if you want your kids to be bright read to them, interact with them, and teach them. But if you want them to be as smart as can be, read more to them, interact more with them, and teach them even longer. I think this means that in, well, really anything you do, you usually can take it a step further and make the situation better or more beneficial. This is what I think the quote means.

Nosferactu said...

I believe that this quote is not related to books, but a metaphor. I mean it is saying to teach, play and read to your children. I believe that this is what this means. Not relating to books.

Anna F said...

To me, this quote means that they help expand our imagination and makes us think outside the box because most fairy tales do the unbelievable. When you think of the story Rapunzel, her hair is very long, which is almost too long, but it gives kids the ideas to almost go unbelievable with their stories. The authors want the kids to think beyond the possible.

chocoholicdancer13 said...

This quote for me means that if you read your children fairytales, they will have more imagination because fairytales leave room for it. Imagination then leads to creative problem solving, which then leads to being more and more intelligent. For example, when being read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, children can think of many different looks and actions of the different characters because they aren't also completely sculpted for a child's mind. So, most authors wanted to leave room for children to thing outside what is written on the pages of their favorite fairytales.

chocoholicdancer13 said...

@Anna F., I agree with you because this quote is saying, think, dream, and discover what you want from something, like a fairytale. These stories let you find things that only you could imagine and like you said, let you think beyond what is actually possible. So, you can then conclude that the stories that we thought were silly and outrageous as a child could have been developing our skills at such a young age.

AVgleek17 said...

I think reading fiction makes you brighter because sometimes in life you have to find what's real by making believe. The more imagination you have, the more ideas you will get. But someday, the ideas that seemed completely insane might just happen. To get to what's real, imagining them in a crazy situation might just be the first step. When you read fiction and fairytales, you think of the impossible, but you want those miracles to happen to you. By wanting the miracles so badly, you try to do whatever is in your power to get them, and you might become smarter along the way. That's why I think fair tales make you brighter and more brilliant.

AVgleek17 said...

@chocoholicdancer13,
I agree with you. When you talk about how fairytales open up a child's mind and makes them think for themselves, I feel the same way. When kids think for themselves, the creative problem solving ics in, and they become smarter in the end. I thin bot you and I feel the same way abut fairytales and the impact they have on kid's imagination, so I agree with you.

sethblog said...

I think that this quote means that when you read read a fairy tale to a young child, they will get ideas, ideas that will put them in an alternate universe, a universe of their own. Its just them, and they could do whatever they want, no parents to tell them to do what they want, no bedtimes, no school. This universe will then lead them to choose this as their "happy place". they could use this happy place to do anything. In school, most importantly, if they are stressing about an upcoming test, they go to this alternative universe, think happy thoughts, think outside and around the box, and break through the wall of impossible, and accomplish their goal, stress free. Going back to the test, breaking through the wall of stress, passing the test all because of one little fairy tale that brought them to this point, leading them to excel in school. Breaking down the wall, accomplishing the impossible.

Grace S. said...

To me this quote means that reading fiction stories can allow you to think bigger. Fairy tales are based upon untrue things, however, reading them could give you that opportunity to use your imagination through your writing. It could make you a better writer. Therefore, fairy tales really let people think outside the box and be creative.

Grace S. said...

@Kate O.,
I definitely agree with your opinion. You said, "It makes people believe in something that is actually unbelievable." In fairy tales, there are all sorts of unrealistic things that aren't really true, but after people read them, it changes the way they think about life. It makes them think that the impossible can become possible. It also lets them use their imagination. This is why I think fairy tales can make a person bright or even brilliant and why I agree with what you said.

Emerson34 said...

@ Grace S I agree with you that reading fiction will make you smarter because you see the world in a different way. I think that this quote is not referring to fairytales, but to all stories. I believe that if you are read to when you are young, you grow up with a love for books. It has been proven over and over agin that reading makes you a smarter person by exposing you to literature and incasing your vocabulary. And if people don't read to their children, then they grow up being enemies with books, and can never fully appreciate their power.

When I first read this quote, the first thing that I though that this ment was that the word bright or brilliant does not mean just knowledge to me, but it also means for someone to have high creativity. For example, the creator of the i-phone, they could have had just plain knowledge they had to have some creativity to invent something that has so many thing to do on it. That is why fairytales make your child bright and brilliant.

I agree with you when you said that reading these books give your child hight imagination becasue of all the mystical characters and animals. I agree with you becasue when my mom read me books it made me aware of the characters and know if they are good of bad. For example, I know that whiches are bad becasue of the Wizard of Oz. i know that dragons are scary becasue they blow out fire. This is why i agree with you when you said that when you read these books to your children, they will have a srtonger imagination and make them more aware of the animals and charaters in a fairytale.

I believe that this quote is trying to say that reading fairy tales will expand imagination and imagination is the first step to being "bright" and "brilliant". Imagination is an important quality to have. For example, in the short story To Build A Fire, by Jack London, the man requires imagination to survive. Unfortunately he didn't possess this quality and didn't end up surviving. If he had imagination, he would have been bright and brilliant, and possibly could have survived.

I agree with you because it will open your imagination and make it more vast. If a person just stayed and believed what others say, they wouldnt have the determination and focus to do something they imagine can happen. They get a state of mind and exceed in determination.

I agree with you because without any fairytales, we wouldnt believe in anything being possible. We wouldnt branch out to learn new things. We wouldnt experiment in something we have always imagined about. Our imagination would be quite small. So fairytales increase the imagination making it vast with joy.

I beleive that reading fiction makes kids brilliant because when you read with them, they experience lots of words, some of them may be old, some of them new. This can vastly improve their vocabulary and spelling skills. Scientists have proven that English-speaking mothers who started reading to their children at an early age had toddlers with better language comprehension, larger, more expressive vocabularies, and higher cognitive scores by age 2.

I believe that this quote means that fiction will help with your imagination. Your imagination is very important. You can invent great things with a good imagination. Fiction gives you great examples in just what is possible to think of. I also think that if you read many fairy tales, it will make you brilliant because it shows you want you can believe in and make your opinion of life very unique. For example, say you read a fiction book about unicorns, and you start to believe in them. This gives yourself a different look in the world, because other people say they are fake. You develop your own experiences from them too. Overall, I think fairytales are very important in growing up and when you are older too. It gives you your own perspective on things, and a great imagination which I believe is more key in life, than being super smart.

Reading fiction is good for you because it gives you good ideas and great life lessons for example Cinderella the lesson to that story is that you have to work hard for you happy ending. She was the one who ended up with the prince because she was sweet intellegnet and kind. She knew how to earn her keep. It teaches you to believe.

I agree with you. I believe that fairy tales can really enhance your imagination greatly. This can really help kids when they are growing up, and even adults. In my opinion, having a positive and strong imagination is key to happiness in life. It keeps kids very happy and excited about things, and to be honest, I think it keeps kids reading because they like to read fiction about unicorns or other silly things, even pirates.

I agree with you that being read fairytales widens our imagination, and it lets us branch out to learn new things. I think this because fairytales are full of dragons and other mystical creatures. This widens their (toddlers) imagination because they want to go see the animals that they see in the stories so without realising it, they learn about animals and the real world.

@The1
I agree with you. Fiction can really make little kids' vocabularies grow. They experience new words and learn along the way, even if it's not a non-fiction book. Fiction can really change the way that kids look at the world too, and really help them grow up and be unique.

I agree with Logan it does make someone brilliant.

I think that reading fiction gives you an imagination that you could take to greater heights. Image yourself as Steve Jobs for a minute, when he came up with the idea of the iPad and mac and all of the amazing features the didn't exist then. I am not exactly sure how he came up with the idea of all the apple products but for all we know he could have read a fiction book about technology and came up with the idea. My point is that, fiction books could spark you imagination and you could create something that changes the world. that is what this quote means to me.

Reading little kids fairy tails can promote imagination and happiness. Its can also teach them life lessons. If you imagine then you can create knew concepts and ideas. This can teach kids rights and wrongs and it can teach them to always do there best. Kids will remember things this way because it interests them in a way that just telling them couldn't. The more you do this the better they will be.

@anirbas i agree with you when you say that children that are creative are brilliant. I think this because i know that you can't teach or learn creativity. You can always go to school to be smart but being creative is something that you either have or don't. So the people that have it are brilliant and can achieve many things with their creativity. This is why i think that children that are creative are brilliant and smart.

I think that this quote mean that fiction can spark a child's mind. I think this because at a young age fairy tales teach kids to dream big and shoot for goal like characters in the story did. Also fairy tales will teach kids to have good imagination. The lessons learned in fairy tales can stay true in the future so these stories will make a kid brilliant. Also imagination is what sparks all good ideas from the light bulb to the auto mobile.

Cav98 said...

I agree with whencupcakesattack because i also think that a fairy tale can effect your perspective on life. A fairy tale will often have a good guy and a bad guy and in seeing this you will be able to determine bad and good things easier. Also in a fairy tale character can accomplish things that they never thought possible. This will have a good impact on how kids see their problems. If people look at the world much like a fairy tale i think it will be a much better place.

I think this quote encourages people to read their child fiction because the fiction exposes them to creativity. As we have explored other times in language arts creativity has been connected to smarts. The fact this quote came from Albert Einstein has a big impact on my interpretation due to the fact Albert was such a creative person. He thought of many original ideas not many others had even gave a thought to. In conclusion I think this quote encourages parents to read their child fiction due to the fact that fiction helps children to become more creative.

I agree with you. I think when Einstein said this he meant that reading fairytales is a tool to help encourage imagination in your child. Imagination is a key aspect to a good life Imaginative people tend to create more, have more fun, and have a better overall life. This is why I think Einstein meant when he was encouraging parents to reason their children fairytales.

I think this quote is saying that its okay to dream big, because if you don't, you're letting yourself down. In fairytales, the princesses always have big goals. In 'The Little Mermaid', Ariel wanted to become a human, with real legs. If she didn't dream that big, then she'd just be letting herself down. In 'Cinderella', Cinderella wanted to go to the ball, even though it was nearly impossible. She had a huge list of chores to do and she wouldn't have been able to get it all done and she knew that. If she didn't dream that big, the her fairy godmother woud have never come, she would have never went to the ball, and never married the prince.

Hayley M said...

@Sarah G, I agree with you. Reading fiction sparks your imagination and allows you to think outside of the box. Authors have to think outside of the box and make an unexpected storyline, engineers have to think of new products to make, and singers/songwriters/actors have to imagine themselves in those peoples shoes. Most jobs need you to have a good imagination and reading fairytales does that.

I believe that this quote means that with fairytales, kids will actually want to read them and remember their story plots because they are more interesting. For example, I know that I have always liked to read fiction books more than boring non-fiction because they can hold my attention better. Another example is that by reading fiction, people actually want to remember what interesting plots and scenes had happened in the book. This shows that people will be brighter by reading fiction books they will actually remember what the book was written about.

I agree with your comment to KirillR98 because you said that you thought that fairytales make you smarter by letting you to be creative when you are younger. You said that, "Fairy tales are good for kids because they create/start a creative mind in a child." Another thing you said was, " When we hear made-up stories, we take in the story to help spring all kinds of ideas into our heads." Therefore, since I also thought this when I first read the quote, I agree with your opinion.

this quote makes me feel older so i guess i feel brighter! i feel a tad smarter than the usual!

panthers502 said...

also, i agree with imagine 11 because when you are young, you do have a running imagination and you are more CRATEIVE!

Pandanut12 said...

I think it means that if you read fiction your brain will be able to hold more things because the stories stretch the imagination. I know this because stretching the imagination means to be able to imagine more things than before. If you can imagine more you can imagine things about you, others and the world around you, which leads to ideas that might just be the solution to an unsolved problem, or an idea that will change the world. This is why fairy tales make you brilliant.

Pandanut12 said...

@CandyS.
I agree with you because creativity is what counts, not how much you know. I know this because a lot of famous musicians, artists, scientists, directers, and inventors especially are rich and famous, and their work is said to be the work of a genius. However, many of these people flunked college or droped out of high school, and look at them now! Sure, it helps, but that isn't what it's all about. With all the facts and quotes there is no space for your own ideas to break through, which is why creativity is the key to genius.

I think reading fiction benefits you because it can strengthen your imagination with all of the fantasy characters and places. This can also benefit your skill to see around an
obstacle which, in the modern world, covers most of our current(Major) jobs.

I think that this quote means that if you read fiction you in harriet the ability to believe. I think this because as a little girl I always believed in things that as I grew older found out had never existed. I remember never wanting to read non-fiction, but as I grew up I knew that 1 day just 1 day I would the true meaning of the word real. As Albert Einstein had said you need to read you child a fairytale to became bright or even brilliant because you need to believe.

@ Hayley M.

I agree with you it is all about sparking your imagination and being able to believe. I agree with you because you must remember what it was to believe in things like to tooth fairy or the easter bunny. What i am trying to say is you remember how to dream.

I think this quote says if you put ideas in someone's head it will make them think. i think this is what it means because when young children hear stories it makes them imagine all different things that make them think creativly and they learn right from wrong.
