submitted by Kim - There is no proof that spirits of past lives can come back and haunt you but there is also no proof that they can't. Some people claim they experienced an encounter with the other side. You may think ghosts are just things children believe in or you may believe that they can interact with our world and even cause serious damage and interfere with people's lives. Is there a rational explanation for everything that happens in our world or is there a chance that ghosts do exist?

Also, since this post is by nature one of conjecture I would ask that you do not attack people's beliefs etc...this should be a forum of debate and information. Think of things you have read/seen/experienced that have to do with this topic.

in my household it is simply accepted that ghosts are real. there isnt any doubt and we speak of ghosts almost as would of a far away relitive. my ma has e.s.p.(we call it hocus-pocus). my ma has told us (my brothers and sisters) to be extra careful, or to not go out at all because she felt like something bad was going to happen. one time she had a distinct feeling that a kid we knew was going to wrap his car around a tree. a week or two later he did,(hes not hurt). but for the ghosts, my ma used to live in northbrook, back when it was burnheart acres, a big farm, and that place is very haunted. every morning anyone who slept in this one room would wake up at exactly three in the morning. another oddity is that one room was locked from the inside when no one was inside to lock it. the pictures were always flipped and tipped wrong, and one time at dusk my ma was looking at the back pond and a six foot block of fog, on a prfectly clear night, floated across the lake. at least two people have drowned there, and no body knows the story of the previous owners, which boosts the belief. one day old mrs. burnheart called out the warrens, expert and world renowed demonolgists, and they would not step foot past the first barn, they knew that something evil lurked around that farm. there have been so many encounters with ghosts, or what could only be explained as them, that i just take the belief for granted.

Ghost. Are. Not. Real.
I have a cousin who is a ghost hunter. His evidence consists of photos that were taken when the camera had a smudge on the lens, and recordings that occurred in old creaky buildings. These pieces of evidence are not sufficient enough to support the argument, "ghosts do exist" and since I am one of those people who has to see some solid evidence to believe, I do not think that ghosts exist.
I do not believe that ghosts are real because there have been no report of tangible evidence, and scientists have come up with reasons as to why people may think they have seen ghosts. It is said to be that one of the reasons why people may think they have seen a ghost is because of sleep paralysis, a condition that acts on the human body between the time they fall asleep or wake up. This condition is linked to hallucinations, so the people who experience it may think there is something in the room with them, a shadow for instance, when there really isn't. Therefore, what people assume to be ghosts are most likely their imagination playing a trick on them, due to sleep disorders, lack of sleep, stress, or hallucinations.
I don't believe in ghosts because there is not proof that they actually exist and if there is a show about finding ghosts there is so much technology these days that they could be simulated images. In this show called like "Ghosthunters" or something on the travel channel, the voices that they play sound so fake like anyone could make it. I think that since there is no evidence, I have no reason to believe on them. Maybe if I ever see proof that ghosts are real then I'll believe, but as of right now I just believe that ghosts are used to scare people.
I don't believe in ghosts because I haven't had any experiences with them and my family doesn't have any experiences. For example, kids would never believe in the tooth fairy or other things if their parents never said anything about it. I think that if your family believes in ghosts then the child will most likely. Also, like Kim said, there is no proof that they are real and no proof that they aren't ,so it depends on how you've been brought up. Therefore, I don’t believe in ghosts because I haven’t had any experiences with it and neither has my family.
I don't believe in ghosts because like Jenny said there is no real evidence to support that they are real. In the show "Ghost Adventures" they always play music in the background when they think they hear something, which makes it hard for the watcher to actually hear what is going on. Also, like Jenny said they voices that they playback for us to hear, do sound like something anyone can make from the technology we have today. Therefore, I do not believe in ghosts because there is no real evidence to support that they are real.
I think that ghosts are fake because there just is too much evidence to prove against it, and not enough for it. Like many others have said there is no tangible evidence to prove them real. I have not seen a ghost, and I even read in a book that it is very easy to play ghostly tricks. You could use a lot of snow and throw it into the air and play a recording of a ghostly noise. Whenever I watch a TV show about ghosts they always seem to switch to a different camera if they hear a noise or find ghost evidence because they cannot show that there is no ghost. They just give you a lot of fake noises to get you to still watch their show. Then they turn the camera to a different ghost hunter. Therfore, there is no true tangible eveidence to prove that ghosts are real. It would be hard to imagine these things really happening. Ghosts are fiction.
Yes, i belive ghosts are real because i watch a show called Ghost Adventures and they catch on tape ghosts reacting to there questions and actions.
I definitely believe in ghosts. I recently watched the movie The Sixth Sense. It is about a boy who can see ghosts and I know it is just a movie but there are people who claim they see/hear ghosts. Some are normal and others are sick in the mind. There are also shows about people hunting down ghosts and spirits. Although there is no tangible evidence of ghosts there is also no tangible evidence that ghosts do not exist which leads me to believe that there is a possibility they are real. Therefore, I do believe in ghosts because there is no proof that they don't exist. It is just one of those things you have to see to believe.
I'm not sure if ghosts are real or not. They could be real or they could be fake. I've never seen a ghost myself but i've heard stories about witnesses. I do not think ghosts are real because, like Bella said, I have never experienced anything that has to do with them. For example, if I had ever seen a ghost or felt the spirit of one, I would believe in them but because neither of those HAVE happened, I do not have any evidence of them being real. Therefore, I will not believe in ghosts until I experience one myself because I am the kind of person that needs the evidence right before my two eyes.
I believe in ghosts because I watched a show on the news where these people where in a haunted oprah house and they heard noises and the news investigated the scene. Therefor I think ghosts are real.
I do not believe ghosts are real, I just believe that they are things created by our imaginations as explanations for things we don't understand or have a hard time coping with. For example, when a loved one dies, a lot of people claim to have seen their loved one as a ghost or something else of the supernatural. On a show called the Miracle Detectives, there was an episode about miracles in 9/11, and in some of the stories, the survivors said that they were guided by an angel, or they talked to one, and the skeptic of the group talked to a psychologist that said that since 9/11 was such a horrible day, these angels were figments of their imagination that their minds created to help them cope with what happened to them. Therefore, since its a fact that ghosts and spirits are created by your imagination to help you cope with tragic experiences, then it means that ghosts and spirits aren't real, but just figments of our imagination.

There are books about ghost experiences but no one can prove that the stories are real or if the pictures were faked. I believe ghosts are not real because it is your mind playing tricks on you. I read on a couple websites that ghost are images of what you want to see. In the website, http://www.wisegeek.com/are-ghosts-real.htm, it states,"Once ghost legends were initially imagined up, confirmation bias - the inclination to see what we want to see - took over, and perpetuated the phenomenon in human culture." Therefore ghosts are not real they are just your imagination, your brain is playing tricks on you.
I do believe that ghosts are real because there has been a lot of evidence proving the reality of ghosts. For example today there are many television shows and movies that are about ghosts. The television show, Ghost Adventures, is about them trying to find proof and evidence that ghosts are real. Movies including Paranormal Activity is based on real evidence of people expiriencing paranormal activity in thier everyday life. Therefore, with all the sufficient evidence today, i think ghosts are real.
I do not believe that ghosts are real because as many other people said, there is no proof if they are real or not. I have seen a lot of movies about ghosts but they dont really prove that they are real. Therefore, I do not believe in ghosts because there is no physical proof that they are real.
Personally, I believe in ghosts because they are part of your imagination and your imagination has the ability to create images and sounds.Having the same idea as David, I agree to what he is saying about ghosts being images of what you see.This means that your imagination can create those images and sounds the ghosts seem to make.I had looked up the definition to "imagination" to help me.The website,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagination read,"Imagination is the faculty through which we encounter everything. The things that we touch, see and hear coalesce into a 'picture' via our imagination." Meaning, in your imagination, you can picture things in which they can seem like they are there, but they aren't really there.Therefore, I do believe in ghosts because the ghosts are just pictures that can be seen using your imagination to create them.
This is going to be hard to use the S.E.W. What method with this but, honestly I believe in ghosts. I do not have any evidence that they are real, but I know they are. I have never seen one either. I believe in ghosts because I just do! I have heard many stories, movies and such about people's experiences with ghosts. For example, my mother used to "talk" to this ghost that lived in her childhood home. Therefore, I do believe in ghosts because many people have experienced ghosts. I may never come across one, but I still believe.
I do beleive that ghosts are real because there are many peices of evidence that prove ghosts are real. For example, in a show called Ghost Adventures they catch ghost footage on camera and also them talking back after asking questions. Therefore I beleive that ghosts are real.
I believe in ghosts because there is nothing proving them to be just a myth. I don't believe in them because of all the shows on TV or movies that everyone has talked about. Some of my family members have claimed to experienced them and said it isn't like anything they have felt before. They even said they had doubted them but after their encounters they believe in them. Therefore with no evidence clearly stating ghosts are not real I do not doubt there existence.
I also don't think that ghosts are just what people want to see because some of the stories i have heard include ghosts harming and interfering with people's lives. Why would someone want to see something that might hurt them? Therefore I don't think ghosts are just something people want to see or something that is imagined/hallucinated.
I don't know if ghost excist, I gotta say. I believe in them, but it's kinda scary.. If you see all the "ghosts" on tv, but I don't believe in THEM. It's more like; You can't see them, but they are there. Just to help you.
I don't think that ghosts exist because I have never once seen a REAL sighting or clue of a ghost in my whole life. Even on the ghost hunter shows they act as though they hear somthing suspicious but really its just the creaky building they happen to be searching in or if they see something it is really just a smudge on the lens or light is hitting something in an odd way. So therefore ghosts do not exist in my opinion. They are just something else made up that they use on halloween to scare little kids.
I do not believe in ghosts because like what everybody else said there is no proof of them and there are so many DEBUNKS on ghost theories. In the show TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society)there are claims of doors moving and shadows but there are so many debunks on that because of high sensitivity including nausea, fatigue, skin irritation etc. Therefore if you think you are witnessing paranormal activity, think of the debunks that could have happened. Its just a coincidence!
