Next Round of Book Clubs
At the closing of the poll there was a tie between science fiction and a classic. I will provide the tie-breaker vote and I vote for science fiction. The number of students who voted was disappointingly low (23 total)!!! Now comes the hard part...what is science fiction? Have you read any good science fiction? What are some great science fiction novels that people would be interested in?

Doesn't science fiction involve technology and the future and things like that since its about science..?
Science Fiction is a story with a plot that is fictional and has science impacting the plot in some way. A good Science Fiction book I read was The Maze Runner. I'm interested in reading a book from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.
Science fiction is about the future and involves technology usually. I haven't read many science fiction books that I enjoyed, it is not my favorite genre. I guess it is my own fault though because I failed to vote.
I think science fiction is the impact of science on a society! I haven't read many science fiction books but I am guessing most of them are about technology and the future.... But I am not positive! I don't remember ever reading a science fiction book. I am interested in seeing how I like them!
I didn't really know about the poll for the book club book. However, I somewhat enjoy science fiction. When I think sciece fiction, I think high-tech stuff and time travel. A good science fiction book is "A Wrinkle in Time." It involves traveling in space explained by science.
I usually am not interested in science fiction. However, I also read "A Wrinkle in Time" and liked it a lot. I think everyone is right about science fiction: It is a fictional plot explained by science. It is similiar to fantasy but fantasy is not explained by science.
Not to sound dumb or uninvolved or whatever, but I had no idea there was a poll going on. Where exactly was it taking place? I definitely would not have voted for sci. fiction, its not really my style. But the Uglies series by Scott Weterfield is really good and that science fiction. Or at least I think it is...
I am kind of looking foward to reading science fiction because I am not the type of reader who reads science fiction for fun. Also I am interested seeing what science fiction is all about since I have never read a science fiction book before.
I think science fiction is fiction that has made up science in it... like something that could happen but I'm not sure. I am looking forward to reading science fiction because I would like to see how science fiction is different from fiction.
I don't think that science fiction is a type of literature that you should try reading sometime. I think it is more of a just for fun if youre into science kind of book. Although since we are reading it for our book club i think that it will be interesting...
I think science fiction is when the author makes up a story thats usually on fake things or the future, because its the words mean those things. Science is the future, and fiction is about made up things. So thats what science fiction is.
I dont tend to like science fiction, so lets hope this changes that! What I don't like is how almost all of the scifi books Ive read or looked at have the same "space ship/extraterrestrial" feel to them. Im sure this is a stereotype though, so can we read a science fiction book that is not like that? Then maybe Ill learn to like this genre!
I think science fiction is about futuristic event or events that can happen in the future.
Science fiction is a fictional piece, focusing on the impact of some type of technology on society. Most often these stories take place in the future, and in my opinion are very much like fantasy. I don't usually read science fiction so there is nothing I can recommend, but i look forward reading science fiction books in book clubs.
I also, like Lian D., didn't know were the pole was and I wouldn't have voted for it. I don't think I read many Science fiction books.

Science fiction is just magic with meaning, if the author gives a reason for the unreal things to be happening then it's a science fiction book. most of the time when people think science fiction they go right to "Star Wars" but it can be very interesting. I liked "A Wrinkle in Time."

I think that a good science fiction book would be the Jurassic park books because they sound like a good sci-fi thriller . I am reading the science fiction book epitaph road and it is pretty good. I think that these will be good clubs
Based on the science fictions books I have read I don't like them but like Maren said I hope that this book club will change that.
Good sci fi is all about creating an idea that is not possible in our current technological state. Thiungs such as flying cars, aliens, and robots would fall into the category of sci fi. The cool thing about sci fi is that books can be filed out of this category in the future as more things become technologically possible such ad robots and such.
There are many different sci-fi books that i could list, but most of Isaac Asimov's books are sci-fi. As some of you may remember, Isaac asimov also wrote "rain rain go away", which was the short story for one of our Socratic circles. Some of you will never forget the essay we had to write on it.
Normally when I read science fiction I don't really enjoy the book and I'm hoping that this book club will make me enjoy scinece fiction books more. Science fiction in my opinion is things that are not real but made up.
I think that a science fiction book is just a book that has to do with untrue sciency stuff; some things that might be performed in the future but not yet in the present. From what i know, i don’t think that i have read a science fiction book.

Science fiction are fiction books that usually invole events of the future, based off of science. The most common by far are books about aliens, most of theese are very banal and hard to understand. When selceting a book keep thst in mind. I've found that the best way to go is to choose something you don't know a lot about. The less you know about a subject, the more the book is going to keep you interested. Just make sure you research things like terms on the subject though before reading as this will hlep you understand the book better.
All of the starwars movies were science fiction but unfortunetley the arent books.

I voted for biography, only because I've always wanted to read a biography. I don't think I will enjoy reading about science fiction as much as I would if I were reading a biography.

Hm, I would say science fiction are books that are oviously scientifical and use a lot of creativity and imagination. Science fiction books are often about the future but are not true. Some science fiction books are hard to take seriously because it is not literal but others are okay.
I usually wouldn't pick a science fiction book, but the one time i tried one, which was "Unwind" it was really good. I would love to try another one of these again. Science fiction is also good because your not just reading a story, your also learning something along with it.

I usally do not like science fiction books at all but last year i read a book called 'The Compound' that i really enjoyed. It was about a family who has to retreat to underground because a war is about to break out, or so they think. Its very interesting and i defiantly recommend it.
Isn't science fiction when there is a story or tv show with creatures and the paranormal? Because the channel Sy Fy on tv has all of those shows and the title is abreviated for science fiction.
Science fiction is a fantasy story but the part that is fantasy can be explained with science. I have never read a science fiction novel, but I watch the show "Fringe" on Fox and I love it. So I have been voting for science fiction novels from the start!
Movies usually have the best type of Science Fiction because it takes after technology and future possiblities,so this books seem to be interesting if movies are made on this topic.

Science fiction is different from fantasy. It deals with the future. At first, I was dissapointed that we were reading science fiction. I have never read science fiction books, but I hear they are really good. Now that I think about it, I am looking forward to reading science fiction, so that way i can step out of my comfort zone, and read something new.
A very good science fiction book that i read was "A Wrinkle in Time" it was very interesting and has a very good theme. I would encourage anybody to read this book it is well writen and fun to read.
I think that science fiction was the best choice because some of the books are really interesting and simple to comprehend. Also it was great choosing this type because I have read many science fiction books already and enjoyed most of them.

Well since I mentioned that I don't really like sciency/space-shipy sci-fi books I'm going to look for ones that focus maybe more on a different science fiction characteristic. I liked A Wrinkle in Time, and though I know it did have typical science fiction stuff, it also had some magic and stuff that played tricks on minds. So yeah I'm going to look for books like that one! (not in the plot, but the structure)
