From now on all blog comments need to be made in SEW format to be considered valid. This means that when you agree/disagree with someone or make a new opinion statement you must provide a strong Statement with a Reason (your because), Evidence that is tangible and supports the because part of your statement, and then an explanation of Why your evidence proves your statement is true. This goes for this blog as well as for any comments made on the Just Write Blog.

This is a great idea because it gives students the opportunity to argue and debate opinions on the blog, and not just in the classroom. I personally, like to get practice with the activity before doing it in class or practice what I learned that day in class, so this is a chance for everyone to improve their debate skills outside of the classroom, on the blog.
In addition to getting to practice "SEW what?" on our own time, this is a good idea because it helps us explain our opinions better and more in depth. From my experiences, people just say if they agree/disagree with something or say "I like this piece"(on the JustWrite blog)but they do not explain why they like it or agree/disagree. Therefore, having to write using the SEW what? theory on this blog will be a great way to get people to explain themselves. Instead of just saying "I agree", they will have to say "I agree because________." And then have evidence and why their evidence proves their statement.
This is a great way to give feed back because it is a strong way to give evidence. When people give feed back just saying,"this piece needs improvement" it does not help the person who is getting the feedback because the person isn't saying what needs to be improved why it needs to be improved. Therefore if everyone is using the SEW format they will be getting something out of the feedback which is great because the feedback will be great.
I agree that using SEW on our blog posts is a good idea because it thelps us practice for when we really need it. Its good to just practice this twice a week, and not even worry if you mess up. Practice makes everyone better, therefore, by using the SEW format on our blog posts we will become better at making statements, because we will gget more familiar with it.
I agree with this idea because it will help us get better at writing SEW statements. This will help us get better at debates because when you are debating you should always use SEW statements.
This is a good idea because it will help us to become better speakers and writers mostly in persuasive situations. When people blog they normally just give I agree or disagree statements or they just give their own ideas without giving evidence or why they think that. They do not persuade what you think and could not change your mind about anything. Therefore using the S.E.W. form when doing our blog comments will help us to become better persuasive speakers and writers.
I think using the SEW format will help with discussions not only in class but also with the blog because there will be more to agree and disgree about. When someone says something on the blog, it will be easier for other people to explain whether they agree or disgree. Therefore, when people start to use the SEW format, the dicussions on the blog will be better.
the sew format should deffinatley help with debating and will be interesting to work on
I like the idea of the blog comments being sew comments. Since we all need more practice on it,this will help because we get to work on it more then just in class. I think the sew method will help when we start debating and have class discussions.
I like the idea of having practice with the whole 'S.E.W' thing especially on the blog because personally I think I need more than class time to get the hang of it, so its really great how we get to do it on the blog too.
S.E.W statements are good in arguments but lack flow in an average conversation with a friend. In some cases thoughts come in spurts, but this can cause issues when they aren't expressed or recorded before they are forgotten. S.E.W. statements are very effective and persuasive, although they can take long amounts of time to think of without a lot of experience and definitely require time to express or record. When having a conversation with a friend long winded comments can be abruptly halted by a response the the friend. This can cause a lost train of thought. If you are using a S.E.W. statement in a conversation with a friend it can become very frustrating if they interrupt you and the thought is lost which took several minutes to acquire. If you are having an argument rather than a conversation of collaborating ideas S.E.W. statements are extremely effective because the opponent will hear you out and won't interrupt you. Flow in a conversation is usually lost when one of the members of the group forget their thought or comment.
I think using the SEW format for our bloges will be very benifical. This will be great because now we can practice for using this format in our socatic circles and this is very good for dabates. Also I really need to get better at this. We can also use this to get better at our book talk feed back.
This is a good idea because students will get the chance to use the SEW method in class and on the blog. This would help students get more experience with the method and be able to use it better during debates.
the Sew format will help with our blogging because it makes our comments more useful. when you say something but don't follow it up with a because, it doesn't help the person to be able to fix their comments. our comments will be more useful to the person because we use the Sew format.
I think that this is good idea because it makes people give a reason. For example, usual comments are generally, "yeahh, I agree with...” but now, the writer has to give their specific opinion, because, and why. Therefore, this is a good idea because it forces a complete response, with good format, that everyone has to do.
I really like this idea because it makes the comments a lot more descriptive and it will make everyone explain why they think what they wrote.
I do not believe this is a good idea because there is not always evidence when someone says something. One time I didn't like a shirt in a store. This wasn't because of the color, design, or fabric, it was just because it was the way I felt. I had not one reason other than my feelings. Therefore, not ever statement made can be put into the SEW format and I don't beleive that ever statement we make needs to be in the SEW form.
I think this is a good idea because working at the S.E.W method will only make us get better at it, and today in class as we read our homework out loud some people stuggled with the statement, evidence, and why.

I like the idea of using the SEW format on our responses because it forces kids to go into details and back up their opinion. Most of the time, people, including myself, will just say what they think and not back it up with why they think that and evidence. Therefore, following the SEW format on every response will help us practice, and make our responses better.
This is a great thing to learn in life because we will be debatiing all throughout our lives. It is very importatnt that we practice it now to get it drilled in our heads. It casues some people to have trouble though, especialy with the why part.
I think that this is a good idea to use S.E.W for our comments. i think that this will help us get in to the habit of using S.E.W for everything else.
I think that thisis a great way to get practice on writing our SEW statements. It will also help us with our writing skills because we will give more evedince after we say something. Therefore writing with the SEW formats on the blog will help us with our writing skills.
The sew format is really useful in helping to persuade someone. I have trouble on the last part though with tying everything together. I need to work on that to make my sew statements more effective.
SEW is definatly a good way to partice for debates because it gives reasons to support our facts. It lets us back up information with facts that other people can relate to and prove that you are right in a debate.
I think that the S.E.W format is a good idea becasue it will help on expanding our ideas and create better explaintions. I think this becasue once i had to do a response on a story and it was a question where you had to think of which character trait that your character but when i answer the question it didn't include an example. Therefore this shows that if we make the format for posting comments S.E.W it will help up practice and help us write better respondes to questions.
Using the SEW format is a great idea because it elaborates our opinions. One time in health class we discussed sterotypes, were some people dont like certain people without having facts or reasons to there thinking. Therefore, our blog comments will be more important and meaningful.
I think using the sew format will help the conversations better because it can be more informative. For example a person answering to a blog only saying they need a better lead won’t help the writer see why they need a better lead. But using the sew format will make the person say why they need a better lead. so then the writer will know what to do on there next posted story. Therefore the sew format will help by creating more informative posts.
I do not like this idea because it restricts our expression of thought. People generally feel more comfortable talking or writing without a format. Mr. Horvath said that when he gave specific rubrics for book talks and reviews, students gave him work that used sentence starters, was awkward, and did not flow. The SEW format is similar, and you can clearly see how 4 out of 5 of these comments use the same sentence starters(I think... because ... therefore). Therefore, using only the SEW format here will discourage students from expressing their thoughts.
I really like the idea of using SEW on the blog comments because a lot of people just post I agree or I disagree but never further explain themselves. For example I was on the blog and someone had posted a riddle. Instead of people actually thinking about the riddle and what they saw they just said I agree with so and so. Therefore I think that the SEW method will help people to further explain there opinions.
i don't like the idea of using to sew on the blog because it is so much more writing and some things are going to be really difficult to put into the sew format.
i agree with most contributers, as Mr.H was telling us about this format, i thought of a billion places i could use this format, essays, family persuasion, persuading friends, and many other times.
I kinda agree with Bailey. I mean I see how its useful to use SEW in some cases when responding to stuff on the blog, but in others, it limits our range if we want to expand on an idea. Like if you posted a poem on here and asked our thoughts, would we really have to state our thoughts, support them with a fact, then conclude with how that fact connects??? I think in some instances we should just be able to let our ideas flow and build on them. Sticking to the SEW format makes it too choppy and less creative.
This is a good idea because the feedback you get is much more useful. For example, when someone says that ____ needs improvement, they don't usually say how that it will make the story better. Therefore, if you have the reason, the evidence, and the why, the comments will be much more helpful.
I think using s.e.w. is a good idea for the blog comments because it will help people understand other peoples opinions better and it will improve our debate skills
Although using sew might be better for the long run, I do not like the idea of using sew for blog comments. The reason is because it takes a lot more time and I can share my thought and examples without worrying what comes next, statement or evidence. Therefore, using the sew setup for blog comments takes extra time that is not needed and gets confusing after a while.
I think this idea is very helpful because people never support their reasons. 80% of kids just say their statement and don't support their reason. This shows that the Sew will provide better feedback
Great feedback, I love the fact that many people responded to the post using strong SEW What? format!
i belive that S.E.W will help each of us think about the comments we make so it is a good thing for us to focus on.
I think that in some ways the SEW it up format will work but in others it won't. Some blog posts would be easy to SEW it up, but when they are not easy and kids can't SEW it up, they will get stressed out and struggle with it. It depends on the kind of post, like if it's an easy one then we should SEW it up.
I think that using the SEW format be helpful because kids would have to tell a reason for what they think. The reason why is that it will make what they are trying to say more clear. Therefore the kids we be understood correctly.
Using the SEW format for blogging is awesome! I can now back up my opinion with evidence and take a clear stance with my opinion on the topic. On the other hand, I agree with Kaylap and think that sometimes it won't be easy for blogging.
