It's the Remix

submitted by Sammy - When folk stories are remade, they are often changed, both story and concept.  Movies like Peter Pan, Red Riding Hood etc have all updated or changed a classic tale.  Why do you think they change the story?  Should they?  What about people who don't know there is an original?  Are you for stories staying the same or do you like the changing of these stories?

I think that they changed the story to fit our time. People think of those stories as children tales, not many know about the original stories that are more for adults. I think they change the story line so they can reach a wider variety of an audience. I think they should change the stories, just like in books. For example i am absolutly positive that every Little Red Riding Hood book is different so why can't the movie be different aswell it opens up the opportunity for more criticizm and the opportunity for people to say which version they like better.

im pretty sure they changed them because parents didnt want to expose their children to as much gore as was in the orignals. the orginal Grimm Brothers fairy tales are horrific stories of death and blood. most of them are warnings to children, warning them. for example, little red riding hood, "dont go in the woods by youself". and parents told this way back when because there was danger in the woods, children would get attacked. but now we dont have to worry about that as much, there arent wolves prowling just outside the fence line. another story that had a gory ending was the Three Little Pigs. in the end of the orginal the three pigs die, because they let the wolf in. the story screams "dont let strangers in the house!" parents would tell this stories to their kids at night to scare them away from doing these things. but now we dont have the same dangers, and we dont want our kids exposed to so much violence, so we make the stories less gruesome.

there are many classic movies remade into remakes and even some videogames. some like super mario 3 for the nes was remaid into a game boy game. I remembered on a previous poast about your favorate cindarela story, there are at least 50 already were remakes around and a few know that.

i think they change the tales because modern kids these days probably would think the stories are childish and boring than people in the 1800s. we are exposed to much more gore and love in movies than before. for example in the movie red riding hood there is alot more gore and love like the killings in the village by the wolf. while the classic little red riding hood just says that the wolf only ate the girl. little red. i like the classic and new versions because it is a change from the story i have heard a milion yimes before so there is a new twist to the classic tale

I think they are remade to fit our century because now a days there are blu-ray players and HDTVs, so they remake them into better quality to satisfy buyers, also alot of movies are changed to fit children needs, in alot of the originals there maybe innapropriate things, like Willy wonka and the chocolate factory, the original was made in the 1800's, which was actually a very scary movie claims www.boston.com. Therefore this is why I think they make originals.

I think original folk stories are remade because different people have different interpretations and perspectives on one story. For example, The Little Red Riding Hood was remade into Red Riding Hood and the two had very different plots even though one was based off the other. In the original story, a sweet little girl in a red hood almost gets eatin by a wolf ono the way to her grandmas. However, in the remake, a girl falls inlove with a man that might be a werewolf using her as bait. Therefore, The writer had a different interpretation of this original story.

I think stories are changed into to movies because they make them more interesting. For example, if an old folk story is boring to many people, they will change the content and make it into a movie. Therefore, folk stories are changed into stories to make them very interesting.

I think the classics should stay the same because they ruin the original tale that has been around forever. For example, in the original Little Red Ridinghood book there was a talking wolf that impersonated the grandma. The new movie lokks terrible in the commercials because it looks like they changed it so much. Also, the classic Frankenstein book was way different from the cartonn things that i have seen. Therefore classics are being changed and ruined.

I think that the movie versions of the folk tales shouldn't change anything from the folk tales. In Red Riding Hood they media changed everything about the true folk tale to make it seem like a scary tale when it's not. This takes away the true moral of the story and destroys classic tales that we enjoyed when we were kids. Therefore I think that movies shouldn't change the original version when they make the movie.

i am for the origal, but i can see why they have changed because the puiblic wants something different a twist on things. like beauty and the beast has been changed in king kong. in the end of the movie king kong knows that he will die if he climbs the empire state build but still does so. he wants to be withher but knows it can never be. beauty killed the beast. also in beastly a man has a spell cast on him and is turned into a beast until someone loves him not because of what he has but becasue of what is in his heart. in the end beauty yet again kills the beast. in the end there is no stopping people from changing the origanl it is somethig that is going to happen and will happen.

I think they change the story to add interest into it. I personally think that they should just stay with the original because how can you call something by the same name after it is changed around almost into a completely different story. I would just rather keep it the same. Therefore even though many stories are changed to add interest I would prefer the original.

I think they change the stories because the originals can be boring. Most folktales just tell a story to explain how something happened. These stories aren't neccessarily interesting so the directors in Hollywood change them up a little to make it a little more interesting. Therefore, people change the original stories to make them more interesting.

I think they change the stories because of the change in time. For example, we all know they story little red riding hood and that was made up a long long time ago. Recently, they've made a movie called Red Riding Hood which is completely different from what we've heard. I think this because we're in a whole new era and people's thoughts on the world are completely different and thats why i think they remix classical stories, to make them up to date with the time period we're in. or all we know, in another decade or so, their might be ANOTHER version of these we'll known tales!

I think that they change up the stories to make them more modern and so that the kids in that age find them more appealing. For example, they story Beauty and the Beast has recently been made into a more modern day movie called Beastly. I think they did this because then it seemed more up to date and less childish and so more teens would go see it. Therefore, I am all for changing the story as long as it keeps the same meaning behind it.

I think they change older folk stories to make the writing style more modern, like Devin said. For example, back then when all the classic folk stories were written, the writing style was very different from what our modern day writing style is now. Therefore, I think they want to change up the stories so people can understand them and be interested in them, rather than keeping the old style the same.

i think they change up the stories to make them more present day. i think its ok if they change it up a little as long as they keep the same concept. if they didnt it could end up being totally different then the original. also, they might change it so its more kid like where it is easier for them to undderstand.

I think that people change up the original stories to make them more enjoyable. People are more apt to see a up to date, more intense version of Little Red Riding Hood instead of the original storyline. Therefore, these new versions of the stories cause more people to come and see them.

I think that they change up the story and make it more interseting so everyone will like it. They have heard the same tale a million times and they were looking for a new twist. There looking for more adventure now adays. However everyone will still remember and love the old tales forever.

Personally, I think that the original should definatly stay the same because they are classics that are to be retold for generations. Instead of changing the story line of the original, create a whole new story so it won't ruin the orignal. Many people know these classic tales inside and out, and if they change, there would be no meaning to them anymore. People know the stories well enough to tell to their realitives. Therefore, I think the classic stories should stay as they are and not change so they can be told forever.

I personally like the newer versions of movies because they are just adding in newer technology into the movie to make it updated to movies today. 51% of all people that watch originals like newer originals because they seem worthy of watching if you are used to todays technology. Therefore, that is why newer updates of original movies are being made because directors choose to keep at the same level of movie ratings as the one's today rather than watching an older timer movie tht should not be on TV anymore.

i think they changed the stories to make them fit our time and they have the right to do that but i always will think that the original is best. and i feel that its okay to change it as much as they want, because most people already know the original versions of the stories.

I like the new stories because it's fun to see how much the original has changed. For example, when you hear the old story and then the newest version, it shows how much it has really evolved. Therefore, I think I like the new stories better.
