Riddle Me This...

This comes from Rockelle...don't cheat and look up the answer online, use your own intellectual ability.
I am the start of war and the end of sorrow. You can't express wisdom without me, but I am at the heart of dimwits. You may find me in waves, but never in oceans. What am I?

I will post the answer to Rockelle's riddle next Monday (someone please remind me).

I figured out the answer, and it is not as complicated as some would think. I like this question because it makes the questionee think about what could start wars and end sorrow. If you can't get it, try this one: What occurs once in a minute, twice in a moment and never in a thousand years?

at first i thought the answer was one thing but then i really looked at the riddle and the right answer came to me. it is a very tricky riddle but if you really think about it, it should come to you. i really liked it too. by the way bailey's hint is very helpful.

This is a really hard riddle but it really makes you think about it. I don't really understand how Bailey's hint is helpful. I do think that the waves could be wave's of emotion and not water waves.

Oooo!!! I've heard riddles like this! I understand! Thank you Bailey!

At first I looked at this and it made no sense but if you look at it more closely like bailey said it really isn't that hard. You have to look closely at what the riddle is telling you.

When I first looked at this I was so confused, but then I read it over multiple times and figured out the answe. Now knowing the answer, it should have been so easy to figure out!

I looked at this at first , and thought it was really hard and confusing, but if you look really closely you can see the answer right there (;

Cool riddle, I think this is good. bailey's hint helped me out a lot. Yeah I agree, all you have to do is look really close and you will find the answer. Keep reading it and it will come in a blink of an eye at you. Just keep reading it and thinking about it.

I felt really stupid when I couldn’t figure it out yesterday, but know I understand it’s simple just confusing when first read. Read the letters in the words not the actual words. What is at the start of WAR and at the end of SORROW? Hope this helps you.

Luke R said...

how do you figure that out?

RoryO. said...

Haha!!! I actually know this one!! And it is not as tricky as you might think it is if you do not know it. I am just happy I finally got one all by myself!!!

At first when i read this riddle i thought that it was very confusing and hard. After i reread it multiple times i finally got it and realized that it was right there. I cant believe i couldn't get it before. And Bailey's clue was heplful.

maya pirulli said...

That was sooooooo simple. Its W! well i kind of needed Kase's help but still.

George A said...

Well now I get it because everyone said it, but I really couldn't figure it out. I think that Nick's hint was the best. That's a pretty good riddle, though. I feel kinda dumb now.

W.
I got this as soon as I read it because I know another just like it. "The beginning of every end, the end of time and space, the beginning of eternity and the end of every place. what am I? "

AnnaCD said...

I'm not sure if I am supposed to say the answer or not but is it "w"?

Anna M said...

it took me a long time to try and figure this riddle out so long that i had to scroll down and look at the first comment which pretty much gave me the answer. I over thought the riddle.

jenny said...

Wow.At first I couldn't get it at all. I think I was overthinking it, and when I really thought about it (and read Bailey's comment) I figured out the answer.

Kevin T. said...

I didn't really know the answer but I figured it out but think about this one:
What is dark where there is light?

kelly said...

I read this riddle over like 10 times before I finally understood it! I was definitely overthinking it just like other poeple said. I liked the riddle though! where did you find it Rockelle?!

Colleen said...

WOW! I really like this one! I finially got one by myself, well with a little help of bailey. As everyone else said its really not as somplicated as you might think.

caroline w. said...

i like this it really makes you think! the answer is more obvious than the riddle makes it sound. i think i figured it out though!

Maren said...

well, I know everyone has said it, but I got it before, and its "w". I also have another riddle Ill tell Horvath on Monday.

Nick.F said...

That was a very tricky riddle but i seemed to have got it after reading the riddle a couple of times is it "W"?

Nicole Y. said...

I read this, thought about it for like two minutes and then gave up. I googled it and then found the answer. I feel really stupid....it's so simple.

zSchulz said...

When i first looked at this i was really confused, but once you read it over, the riddle is easier to find out. As everyone already said, the answer is "W".

Connorb said...

At first I did not get the riddle but after looking carfully at the words in the riddle I finally came up with the answer.

Matt S said...

i get this baily is right u dont have to think a lot to get this riddle its actually obvious

blogblogblog said...

As soon as I saw the first line I knew the answer because my friend showed me one A LOT like it in 5th grade.

When you first look at the riddle, it looks very hard to figure out, but when you look at it more closely and think about it, the answer is really obvious.

Devin L. said...

When I first read this it was very confusing, but after re-reading it a few more times it finally helped me see the answer. Also, it helped me see that the answer is kind of obvious.

mike d said...

First, when you look at the riddle it is very confusing. But if you look very carefully the answer is right there.

Brooke H. said...

I GET IT FOR ONCE!!!!! yay! and ya like colleen said its not that hard as everyone thinks. Its actually quite easy! That was a good one Rockelle! :)

Abbie said...

I finally found the answer after reading it about 6 times! I was so confused when i first read it, but then i was so simple when i read another 5 times.

jocelyn said...

yea.. i finally got it.. i was really easy.. you just have to think about it and read it a few times, like abbie did.

dave said...

After a while I finally got this riddle. Bailey's help really helped me out I think if I had looked at it more I would have noticed but I only read it a couple of times and then thought about it. It really is something you need to see in words to get it. It seemed so simple once you understand and question why you couldn't understand it at first.

he has married many women, but has never had a wife. who is he?

kami said...

Wow, I know everyone is saying this but when i first read it made no sense! I decided to look through some of the comments people posted and finally figured it out. This is definitely a riddle that is so obvious, it's hard to figure out, and the funny thing is that the answer is basically right in the riddle if you look close enough.

To Anonymous.-A Priest. I've heard that one before.
Heres a few. (I love riddles!)
Your in a room with a lamp, a candle stick and a fireplace. What do you light first?
Theres a certain breed of mouse than can give birth to a litter of 12 baby mice 2 times a month. You take one of these precious baby mice home with you. Assuming it's a girl, how many mice will there be in a year?

George A said...

Wow I get the one above me. I thought about for a few minutes but its the lamp because it is lighten already and the fireplace and candle stick aren't. That is actually easy if you just think about it.

Nicole Y. said...

Here is a tough one-
A man had twelve toothpicks in front of him. He took one away. Now he had NINE in front of him. How is this possible?

Kristen L said...

The first riddle I thought would be some complex and confusing answer but it is simply just a letter. Therefore it was hard for me to figure out. Nicole's riddle I can't begin to figure out.

julia h said...

Riddles like this are so confusing at first, but when you really look they are obvious and right there in front oh you.
Try this-
What is in seasons, seconds, centuries and minutes but not in decades, years or days?

jess c. said...

wow i had no idea what that was but looking at julia's and knowing that your supposed to look for a letter; is it a 'n'?

Kace said...

to answer lian.d's its the candle because you can light the fire and the lamp, if its an old one, but if its not then light the lamp so you can see the candle to light it, so you can then ligh the fire. and the second is none unless theres a dad.. (it said ONE mouse) but if their is a dad then there would be 288 little mice.

I finally figured this riddle out after looking at it for 10 minutes.Like cutiexox24 said you really have to look at the words themselves instead of trying to think of an actual object or thing. Really good riddle!

I found two riddles that I thought were pretty easy...
1) What gets wetter as it dries?
2)A man kills his wife. Many people watch him doing so. Yet no one will ever be able to accuse him of murder. Why?

caroline w said...

i found a great riddle! it tricked me at first but after a few minutes i got it.
what is as big as you are and yet does not weigh a thing?

ZoZo V. said...

ohh! I know this one! that's good Caroline! am I allowed to say the answer? How about this one...

When you have me, you feel like sharing me. But, if you do share me, you don’t have me. What am I?

Georginax82 said...

I liked carolines too! But I think I know the anwer to Rockelle's... you just have to look at it really closely and read it a couple times..also use your brain!

Anonymous said...

I took me a few reads to understand this riddle. It took me about 4 or 5 times and the first two times it made completely no sense but it was much easier to understand. And I totally agree with Caroline.

gabbyn said...

When i first read this i had no idea what the answer was. but then when i started thinking about it i came up with a few ideas.when i looked up the actual answer it was totally different then what i thought it would be.

jenna c said...

at first i didnt understand this but after reading through it a few times i realize how easy it was. the lines that helped me figure it out was the line " I am the start of war and the end of sorrow" also the line when it said "You may find me in waves, but never in oceans".

@Anonymous and anyone else who answered this riddle out loud, you should have given other people a chance to figure out the riddle and not just tell them. Read the article Learner versus the Learned.

I think this is a great riddle. This is because people overthink way too much and think it's going to a long, tricky answer. It actually makes you think about what the answer will be. But most people look at the riddle to try and figure it out. You need to look at the letters in the words.

I think that you are right. I think this because when I got to the point of when I needed help, I started reading the comments for some tips. When I read the comments with the answers, it ruined the fun of figuring out the riddle by myself. If you tell everyone the answer, it ruins the fun for the people who are still trying to figure out the riddle.

I did not know Mr. Horvath was that creative!

i did not understand and i think this because some riddles like this one have things right in front of your face and you don't know the answer for a long time and when you find it it will seem to easy that you feel stupid as i do now.

Anonymous said...

i did not understand this because the answer is somewhere in front of my face that i just don't see. this is because people don't like to have to work at something to get the answer they like to just understand immedietly.

maia said...

i did not understand this riddle because somewhere the ranswer was in front of me but i didn't understand it was the answer so that is what made finding out the answer so great.

ILuvGymnastics99 said...

Wow. This is a very interesting riddle which I have seen somewhere before. It is wise and simple when you think about it and read between the lines. For some reason, this riddle makes me feel peaceful, so finding out the answer was basically like putting an end to the adventure :(
