Candy Clash

Do you trick-or-treat? Do your older or younger siblings? Has your perspective on trick-or-treating—and other holiday traditions—changed as you have grown older? If so, how? Why might towns want to ban older kids from trick-or-treating? What do you think is a good age to stop trick-or-treating?

I think that kids all ages have a right to trick-or-treat because that is what Halloween is most famous for. every year kids think of Halloween as a way to get free candy and to have fun. Don't let them stop doing what they enjoy, regardless of the town.

I think that everyone who wants to go trick-or-treating should get to because people love scaring or getting scared AND getting free candy. Most people love Halloween. It has been a tradition for many years. This can't stop older kids from having fun too. Therefore, everyone should get a chance to go trick-or-treating because it has been a tradition for many years and hopefully many more to come.

I believe that everyone should have the right to go trick or treat because everyone needs to have a little fun sometimes like scaring people getting free candy and spending time with your friends. It has been a tradition for a very long time also. Even adults and big kids should be allowed to trick or treat no matter what town they live in. Therefore, halloween is for everyone to be able to trick or treat.

I think that there should not be a law banning older kids from trick or treating. Authorities think that they should because older kids do tend to do things like egg and TP people's houses. However, this does not mean that all of them do that. Therefore, banning older kids from trick or treating is a bad idea.

@peter p. I agree with you that everyone should be able to trick or treat regardless their age. You said that older kids should have fun too. I agree with you on that because the more fun you have in life you have a more enjoyable life. Therefore, I agree with you that trick or treating should be aloud and not banned in any town regardless their age.

I agree with you because all kids should have a right to trick-or-treat. You said, "Every year kids think of Halloween as a way to get free candy and to have fun." I agree with this because halloween has been going on for many years and most kids enjoy it. Therefore, I agree with you because of your reasons that you mentioned.

I think all children and adults should be allowed to trick or treat because that is the spirit of Halloween. Most people love to dress up and get free candy, such as my self. I like this because this is the one time of the year where i could eat candy and candy and CANDY!

@Brian C,
I agree. Everybody of every age loves to go out and get free candy so I don't think the towns should put a trick- or- treating age limit and i think that they shouldn't have the authority to do that.

I think that kids of all ages should be aloud to o trick or treating because the holiday is meant for kids knocking on people's doors to get candy. I know this because every year I see kids that are really young, and some that are in high school that go trick-or-treating in my neighborhood. So you can't really stop Halloween because of age, it's all for candy and fun!

AVgleek17 said...

I think trick-or-treating should be for little kids only because it is a much bigger deal for the little kids than us. They are very excited to got walking around late at night, feeling like a million bucks on their Halloween costume! While all we want is the candy. But personally, i would rather have younger kids have the candy! I could just buy some myself and watch the happy faces through my window. Therefore, trick-or-treatng should be for little children only.

I agree with you because the should never stop for trick-or-treaters because it's a kids holiday. I see kids of all ages go out on Halloween to get their candy. So kids should always be aloud to get candy because they have fun with friends.

A good age to stop trick-or-treating is until you die because think about it,this is the only night, once a year ,that you get free candy at mostly every house. It is a free-bee day for candy.

Anonymous said...

I agree with magicman523 because it's not anybody elses choice to go trick or treating and so if he want to do it till de dies its fine. Because its true you get free candy for a whole night or day so yeah its good to go trick or treating. the reason I say this is because it's a fun day to hang out with friends ands family and get candy.

I think trick or treating is one of the best holladay tredtions.I love it and still do it.I dont agree with not letting older people go trick or treating because all it is dressing up really scary to go get some free candy.I still see older peolpe about 19 doing it.The only reson i think adults dont do it is because loss of interest or because they need to protect there house and give candy away.

JMM126 said...

I go trick or treating still, it is a lot of fun. It is a chance to hangout with friends and have fun walking around. I think age 19 is the limit because they would probably want to go to college party instead of getting free candy. They may band other kids because they will be a whole lot more mischievous than 12 year olds and may have the idea to potentially do something life threatening. My sister is 16 and still goes trick or treating just for hanging out with friends, to get out of the house, and to get some candy. My brother, who is 7 absolutely loves Holloween. I still love to go walk around in the fall air with friends, dress up as funny things, and have fun. Adults may dress up alittle bit if hey still have a child that is too young to go by themself, other than that.. people over 19 really shouldnt go out to go trick or treating.

JMM126 said...

@THE BUG RU
I agree with you because I know I love to scare my brother.. Even if it isnt Halloween. Like you said,"It has been a tradition for a very long time also." Isn't that what Halloweens about? Getting Scared. So i agree with you very much.

G-MAN said...

@THE BIG RU I believe you are wrong and that trick or treating isn't for everyone. Trick-or-treating should only go up to high school no college or adults. This is because little kids go and college students can be too boisterous and adults don't want other random adults coming to their houses. Towns may think on putting an age limit because the older kids can be dangerous to have around kindergarteners and can be innapropriate. Therefore, there is an age when people to stop trick-or-treating because once you become older nobody want you coming to their house.

Alex Z. said...

I believe that kids over fourteen should be banned from trick-or-treating. This is because they can intimidate younger children who innocently go out with their parents. Kids over the age of fourteen go trick-or-treating alone, without parental supervision, and that causes them to act in a way they normally wouldn't. Odds are, they would misbehave. They can torment and scare little kids. Kids over fourteen should not be allowed to go trick-or-treating.

Emerson18 said...

Halloween is a very fun holliday because you get free candy. You can just walk up to doors and take the candy that is in bowls, or knock on someone's door, say, "Trick or treat!" and they will give you candy. Halloween is also fun because you get to scare people, like with scary stories. Therefore, Halloween and trick or treating are great hollidays and traditions that should never die for any age.

Emerson18 said...

@JMM126 Halloween should be for people of all ages because it can be fun for everyone. Like you said, your 16 year old sister does it to hang out with friends, get candy, and get out of the house. It can be fun for everyone, from seven year olds, like your brother who loves Halloween, to even college students. Therefore, Halloween and trick or treating don't have an age limit, and shouldn't!

AnnaDance2485 said...

I think that trick-or-treating is appropiate for all ages because there is still fun. Some kids think that they are too cool to go trick-or-treating, but no one is too cool. My brother and sister have parties sometimes, but they still go trick-or-treating. Therefore, there shouldn't be an age limit!

AnnaDance2485 said...

@Emerson18
I agree with you because this is the one day where you can dress up to be anything that you want to be! You also get candy! You doesn't want to do that?! Just because you're older, doesn't mean that you haven't grown out of it!

No i don't go trick-or-treating i think once you become a teenager you should stop trick-or-treating and go out on mischief night instead because most teenagers don't go out trick-or-treating.

I think that ti am a little old to tick or treat because is really nothing that kids my age can dress up as with out looking ridiculous. I know this because when ever people tell me what they are going to be they say things like bananas, princesses, or even some type of animal. I am sure you agree that all of those reasons are ridiculous.

Lauren said...

I think kids of all ages should be allowed to trick or treat. Its one of the good childhood memories that everyone should cherish. Its not only fun to receive candy, but the costumes you wear can reflect your personality. I have older cousins that still trick or treat and therefore their shouldn't be an age limit.

Lauren said...

@simeong I disagree with you. Trick or treating is a great way to have fun and stay out of trouble unlike mischief night. Mischief night is just another way to get yourself in trouble and isn't always safe. Halloween is one day where you can be anything you want and get free candy from just saying trick or treat.

Cav98 said...

I think that kids of all ages should be able to trick or treat because everyone can have fun while trick or treating. People of all ages can have fun while trick or treating because you can dress up in your favorite costume. Also you can spend time with siblings, friends, and family. Lastly you get free candy while doing all of these things. All of these things make for one very fun night.

I still go trick or treating. my younger sibling still do also. I have no older siblings. when I was younger I had two older friends and they werent going to go out. so I didnt want to go out. but my mom still made me. I am happy she made me though cause I most likely would have lost most of my childhood haloween memories. I probably will not stop trick or treating for a while. I thnk a good age for tick or tresting is just around 16 then you should probably start parting on halloween.

In my opinion about Halloween is that like any other holiday you are never to old for a holiday so how can you be banned for celebrating a holiday if your just, yes maybe it changes for you over time but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate it because you are to old. For example would you ever not celebrate Christmas( if you do) just because you are to old. So therefore I think that you should always be aloud to celebrate a holiday even if you are really old.

Man on the Moon said...

I agree with you AnnaDance2485 because like any other holiday you are never to cool or above a holiday. I think this because it significance makes it holiday unless you are perfect to a significant to an extent then sure you are above the holiday but no one is perfect no even Albert Eisenstein. Also what is cool? it is not popularity but how much pride you put into something. So if you put no pride into doing something that you have enjoyed in years past but not now how can you be too cool for something. So therefore you cannot belittle a holiday just because you think your too cool because doing this makes you uncool.

AVgleek17 said...

Brian C, I have to disagree with you because I believe only little children should trick-or-treat. When you said, "every year kids think of Halloween as a way to get free candy and to have fun." I think that older kids should let it go and pass on the tradition to the younger kids. This would only be fair to the little children that look foward to dressing up way more than we do! In conclusion, I disagree with you because I believe little kids enjoy the holiday much more.

I think that towns ban older kids from trick or treating because when they go trick or treating they egg people's houses. I know this because I know someone who used to do that but luckily doesn't know. I think people of all ages should be able to trick or treat. I think that because kids all ages love to trick or treat. I know that because my mom is an adult and she still loves to trick or treat.

KeViN o said...

I still trick-or-treat at my age. I go out only for the candy. Since I grow older my perspective haven't really changed, I still love going trick-or-treating. It is just funnt to see what people dress up as. Some peoples costumes are funny. last year, I got picked up and saw my brother's costume party. Somebody's costume was the apple from the fruit of the Loom underwear commercial. If older kids were not able to go trick-or-treating, it would probably be because older kids don't wear costumes. Most older kids just put on jeans and a tee shirt and ask for candy. If you are going to trick-or treat then, you should atleast wear a decent costume.

Colat3ral Damag3 said...

Janelle h@ I don't really agree with you. That is because you say they just go around getting candy well that is not entirely true. I know teens that teepee people's houses and egg them. Also my mom loves to trick or treat and same with my dad.

Avacodo said...

I think you should stop trick-or-treating when you are about 14 or 15. I think that is a good age to stop because 2 years ago when I was trick-or-treating a 19 year old knocked on someones door, and the old lady yelled at him and said he was to old.(Also said he needed a better costume than just bunny ears)
Also, if you go out and your to old, little kids will be scared of you because you are so big and scary looking to them in your costume. You probably don't want to be responsible for kids being scared on their fun day out. Therefore, I think you should stop trick-or-treating when you are 14 or 15 so you don't bother the younger kids.

TheBigFish said...

I do not think that trick or treating should be banned for teenagers. I think this because it keeps teenagers from doing mischievous things on Halloween. On MSNBC.com it specifically says "Excluding teens from trick-or-treating could make it more appealing to do other, less desirable, things,"

Avacodo said...

@ KeViN o,
I agree with you that older teenage kids don't put on costumes, and that they should if they want candy. I know this because when I went trick-or-treating 2 years ago I saw a 19 year old only wearing a bunny ear hat, and the old lady with candy told him to get a costume if he wants candy. Also in your response you say," Most older kids just put on jeans and a tee shirt and ask for candy." That tells you that they need to wear a costume for candy. Therefore, I think that if you want candy, and your older, you need to wear a nice Halloween costume.

I think that any age people want to stop trick or treating is a good age because in almost every school they talk about independence and making your own decisions, this is something you have to decide for yourself. I know that all my friends love to get dresses up and put on a bunch of make-up to go trick or treating. Also, my sister is 17 turning 18 and she goes out every year with her friends for at least 30 minutes. Most people can make their own decisions, knowing when to stop trick or treating s one of them.

Sarah G. said...

@Cav98 i totally agree with you that everyone should be able to go out and trick or treat. Every year the laws on us middle school and high school students have gotten so strict. For example, we won't get our license until we are 18, we are not allowed to be driving past 11 p.m., and now we can't even go trick or treating anymore. This is the one night a year that the Government officials have left alone, now they keep trying to mess with it. Everyone should have the right to trick or treat.

maia m said...

i think kids hould trickortreat till any age wanted in the teens. i think this becuse it is a fun childhood experience that is loved all over. also halloween is a chance to show weirdness in your costume choice.

maia m said...

i agree with sarah g about the stricter laws they need to leave halloween alone or people will stop trickortreating because the laws get to hard to follow. Also people might break some of the laws causing more problems then neccasry.

Grace S. said...

In my opinion, I think any age is really a good age to stop trick-or-treating. It mostly depends on the person. For instance, some people may prefer to stop trick-or-treating at age 10 because they don't enjoy dressing up and getting candy, while others may want to trick-or-treat until they are 18, if they want to carry out the Halloween tradition. Therefore, I think you can trick-or-treat until whatever age you want, and that it doesn't really matter how old you are, but if you enjoy Halloween.

u don't know me said...

@ maia m
I agree with you because Halloween is not about being under surveillance by cop cars. This is because you also said that the laws are getting too strict about trick-or-treating becuase they will make it harder to trick or treat. Therefore, we both can agree that laws concerning trick or treating are getting to rigid.

Grace S. said...

@Sarah G I agree with you.Trick-or-treating is definitely something kids and teens especially should be able to decide for themselves. You said that in school they talk about independence. Trick or treating is an independent decision people have to make. I think what you said perfectly sums up that any age can go trick or treating.

Pandagirl! said...

I think that people can trick-or-treat until they graduate college! When they get to college celebrate Halloween with parties but probably not trick-or-treating but, they are basically grow-ups! Celebrating Halloween with going house to house getting candy gets boring sometimes and especially for grown-ups.

Halloween is a chance to weirdness in your costume. I agree with you because you can dress in any costume you want, people opening there door and surprised to see a wacky costume that your in. In conclusion you get candy.

LittleMonster1028 said...

I think going out on Halloween should not have an age limit. This is because Halloween is about making a creative costume, going to haunted houses that make you want to scream your head off, and eating all the candy you can with friends. Just because someone may be older, doesn't mean that they can't experience this once a year. Yes, some people do abuse the holiday, but that doesn't mean everyone does. My cousin is almost 55 and she still goes out for Halloween because she loves everything about it. Not once has she abused it, along with many other individuals in the world. Banning Halloween would take away a once in a year opportunity from millions of people that don't deserve this harsh punishment.

LittleMonster1028 said...

@Lauren
I agree with you because I also think trick-or-treating should not have an age limit. Like you, I also think it is great because to get to make a costume that reflects your personality and you get eat a lot of candy. Therefore, those who are older should not get punished my having the town ban Halloween.

theBIGfish said...

@pandagirl i do not agree with you. i think that anyone at any age(except predators) should be allowed to trick or treat because they deserve to have fun. i think this because on blogs i've seen, 70% of people say that everyone should be allowed to trick- or treat.

Devon S. said...

I don't think that there should be an age limit for Halloween because older kids go with their friends and as long as they aren't causing trouble they should go. There isn't any reason to ban older kids from trick-or-treating if they aren't doing anything wrong and there is almost no way to enforce that ban since police cannot go around town asking children how old they are. I think that kids should be allowed to trick-or-teat until any age that they want since they aren't doing anything wrong and it's almost impossible to keep track of kids going out for Halloween. I mean when else do people give you free candy for dressing up in a strange costume?

Devon S. said...

@maia m
I agree with you because on Halloween, it is a time to express yourself by wearing a strange costume. I also agree that Halloween is loved all over by kids, even little children, and the little children might want to go with their older siblings! I think you bring up a great point about why Halloween should not ban older children.

Katelyn O. said...

Over the years I haven’t changed my mind about trick or treating. I think it is important that kids do trick or treat throughout the young years of their lives. I think towns might want to ban older kids from trick or treating because they might think they will trash houses, or stay out to late and be very loud. The age that you stop trick or treating at shouldn’t be limited because it depends on the person you are. I think that you should be able to trick or treat at any age because some people love to go out trick or treating and people also love to go out with friends and get as much candy as they can. This shows kids, and or teens should be able to trick or treat at whatever age they feel is appropriate.

I have always gone trick-or-treating for Halloween. I think it is a great opportunity to get candy from your neighbors, and also a good time to talk and walk with your friends. I think all ages should go trick-or-treating because it is an awesome holiday.

I Believe that trick or treating should not have an age limit because as long as the older kids are not causing trouble they should be alowed to have fun. Not all kids 12 and up cause trouble so why prevent them from having fun. Only 22% of all people over 12 have caused mischife in their trick or treating life. Think about the kids this will disapoint and DON'T put a ban on the age.

Katelyn O. said...

@Grace I completly agree with your opinion because I also think kids can trick or treat at any age they would like. I think that it does change over time people still go out and get candy but the costumes the strategy and the fun change for example my friend was a star wars character 3 yrs ago now he is and ultimate assassin and instead of going to everybody's house we just steal all the candy from one house that is usually gone and just leaves out a bucket of candy saying take 1. also after the treats we hide and scare people .Therefore things do change over time

Kibble said...

I believe that trick-or-treating is great for younger kids. I think that when you are 14 years old you should start thinking about being the ones to PASS out the candy, instead of being the ones to RECIEVE it. When you are younger, dressing up is cool and exciting for them as well. As I've gotten older, I've realized that I liked trick-or-treating when I was younger because I used to go with my sister, and my dad , giving me good memories. But now no one is motivated to go trick-or-treating anymore. But I can understand why, trick-or-treating is like a tradition for younger children, its been going on for years, and years. When you become older you realize that you can just as easily go to the grocery store, and buy a bag of candy you will actually like. And also for older kids it's hard to come up with a costume that you will not be made fun of for going trick-or-treating in too. I think it would be a good idea for towns to ban older kids from trick-or-treating becuase when teenagers go out to trick-or-treat then they are not in any spirit what so ever for what ever is going on around them, and they don't really care whats going on they just use it as an excuse to go out with their friends and eat a bunch of candy. By doing this they take away childern's experiences with halloween, not giving them some good memories of their childhood. I've seen this going in in my own neighborhood, and these older kids end up making fools of themselves anyways. Thats why I think 14 is a good age to stop trick-or-treating.

DR Bubblesquash said...

As I grow older, holidays don't really change for me. Halloween is your 1 time in 365 days, when you're over 13 or so, to just go back to being 7. It's a good feeling, and I think that banning older kids from trick-or-treating is the STUPIDEST idea i've ever heard. It's basically saying 'You can't get presents on Chrismas because Santa hates you.' Really, the only good age to stop trick-or-treating is when you're, like, 21 or something.

Unknown said...

I don't think kids should be banned from trick-or-treating except for the people who go out on mischeif night and egg houses. I think this because on Halloween night, kids can go out and get free candy from neigbors and hang out with friends. Banning trick-or treating completely would be unfair for kids who don't go out on mischeif night. So only the people who do cause mischeif and get cause mischeif should be banned. If they get banned, then it's their own fault. So ths solution would be fair for everyone.

Ryan 35 said...

A good age to stop trick-or-treating is when you turn 10 or 11. I think this because you dress in childish costumes and devour empty calorie-filled candy. It gets repetitive after a while because you just go house to house asking for candy. Also, at this age, we should be a bit too old for silly costumes. It is fooling around and is for the little kids.

Ryan35 said...

@ Unknown
I disagree that people who egg houses should be banned because most of them do it because they are bored of Halloween and they risk getting in trouble anyway. Most people egg or TP houses because they want to spice up the occasion. Plus, they risk getting in trouble anyway. If the police don't get them for egging, then they can't get banned from Halloween anyway.

I think everyone should be able to trick-or-treat, after all banning trick-or-treating for older people would be really dumb and un-American. I think you should be able to trick-or-treat all the way trough college, then you should stop. After all, you are still a kid at 16 or17! As I've gotten older only a few small thing have changed, my costumes have matured and I no longer go with adults.

Cav98 said...

I agree with Devon S because I also think older kids can have fun trick or treating. We can have fun , Get candy, and be with friends . No one’s too old for that.

Kibble said...

I agree with Alex Z. They said that kids over 14 should not go trick-or-treating, because they misbehave. I think this statement is very true because at age 14 parents tend to give their children a little less supervision at times, expecting them to be mature. But these kids just bother younger ones. I wonder why they do this to younger kids.

!DANCE! said...

I believe that it doesnt matter what age you go trick-or-treating becasue what if a kid loves to go tick-or-treating and want to do it the following year, but people say that they are not allowed to. that wouldnt be fair at all. I know that this is not fair because i myself know teenagers that still go trick-or-treating because they enjoy it. If people are worried that the teenagers will scared younger kids, the teenager's parents will know if their child is responsible and mature enough to be able to have the treat of going out. this proves that now matter what age, all kids should be able to trick or treat.

alcatrazjail said...

@Peter P I think you are right because it's not fair for towns to just ban trick or treating for teenagers. Teenagers probably like Halloween better than kids!

NYRangers#1Fan said...

I believe that there should be an age restriction because many teenagers above 17 trick or treat disrespectfully on Halloween. Two years ago on Halloween night, six, 17 or 18 year old boys rang my doorbell at 10:45 pm. My parents were a little upset but answered the door anyways to find half of them dressed up as girls (with barely any effort) and the other half not dressed at all. My parents gave them candy but were very angry. If you are going to go trick or treating, you should wear a costume and go at a reasonable hour because otherwise it is very disrespectful. In my opinion it is almost as bad as mischief night. Teenagers trick or treating without a costume or late at night is the reason that they should be banned because they should know better than to do that.

NYRangers#1Fan said...

I agree with Katelyn because banning older kids is not the best idea. It is not the best idea because all teens aren't bad on Halloween. It is not the age that determines how well a kid behaves. It is the kid's personality. For instance, last Halloween night, I saw a group of teenage girls. They were all in costume and polite. The towns that are considering this law have to realize that when you ban the not behaved teens you are also depriving the well behaved ones (like these girls) of a holiday tradition. These girls were well behaved and when towns ban teens like them it breaks my heart because it is not their fault for anything that happened it the past. By banning them you are practically blaming them for something they never committed.

I believe that kids of any age should be allowed to go trick-or-treating if the want to because Halloween is basically about having a good time. Halloween is pretty much the time to get to dress up however you want to and go out with your friends to get free candy. Everyone should get the freedom to do this, no matter how old you are, so that you can just have some fun for the night, too. This is why everyone should have the chance to be able to go out on Halloween to trick-or-treating.

I agree with you on how children and adults should be allowed to go trick-or-treating because Halloween is all about having fun. You said that, "Halloween is pretty much the time to get to dress up however you want to and go out with your friends to get free candy." You also said, " Everyone should get the freedom to do this, no matter how old you are, so that you can just have some fun for the night, too." These examples are exactly why I believe everyone should be able to go out on Halloween so, this is why I agree with your comment.

I think that banning kids from trick-or-treating is a bad idea. I think this because trick-or-treating is a huge Halloween trdition. But I do think teens should be banned because some people have the gut to toilet paper someones house or scare little children. This is what I think about banning trick-or-treating.

bieberlover10 said...

@ Evan F
I agree with you 100 % because only a minimal amount of people have done bad things in there life during Halloween.. So if they banned it for teens it wouldn't be fair for the good people!! That is why I agree with you.

pandanut12 said...

In my oppinion, banning kids 15 and older from trick-or-treating is a good idea because those kids could ruin it for everyone else who was going. I know this because older teens might think that normal trick-or-treating is for babies, but go out anyway for the candy and make sure that everyone knows that they are NOT babies. They may dress up in inappropriate costumes, scare little kids, take all the candy from the "Please take one" bins, or some other obscene and rude thing to show how "mature" they are. THEY might have fun during this, but they are really the only ones. They could really make Halloween worse for you, which is why we should ban them from going trick-or-treating.

pandanut12 said...

@Ryan35
I disagree with you. People who egg houses should be banned because it's rude to the victims and the egger's parents. I know this because eggers don't clean their victim's houses after, so they have to take time and effort to clean it itself. Also, I don't think that eggers buy their own eggs generally, and so that is a waste of their parent's money. Wasting other people's money, time and effort is a very rude thing to do, so therefore people who egg should be banned.

Alex Z. said...

@Brian C I disagree with you. This is because I believe only younger children should be able to go trick-or-treating. Older children can scare younger children who only want "to get free candy and to have fun." If you allow older kids to go trick-or-treating, they can take away younger kids' chances to get free candy and have fun if they scare and torment them. I think only younger kids should be able to go trick-or-treating.

I think there shouldn’t be a certain age for when people should stop trick-or-treating because Halloween is all about having fun. I know this because everyone puts on their costumes, get together with their friends, and go door to door trick-or-treating. It should be your decision whether when you should or shouldn’t stop trick-or-treating. Everyone should have the chance to go trick-or-treating and have fun. There shouldn’t be a certain age for when should stop trick-or-treating.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you @!DANCE! because all kids should be able to trick or treat. I think this because all kids just want to have fun on Halloween. Not many teenagers go out on Halloween just to scare little kids; and I agree, if they do try to scare little kids then their parents would know if they are mature enough to handle the responsibility of going out on Halloween. Other teenagers clearly go out on Halloween because they enjoy the holiday. I agree that all kids should be able to trick or treat.

Anirbas said...

All kids should be allowed to trick-or-treat, as long as they are responsible with it. Older kids should know that it isn't nice to intentionally freak out younger kids. Most 5 year olds would hate to be chased by a teenage weirdo. It would be terrifying. Kids that trick-or-treat for the intent of scaring younger kids shouldn't trick or treat, but otherwise, everyone should be allowed to. It isn't right to hold all older kids responsible for a few incidents caused by others.

Anirbas said...

I do not agree with pandanut12, because kids 15 and older may want to trick or treat for the right reasons, those reasons being for fun and for candy. Not all 15 year olds want to trick or treat to prove their "maturity". They might just want candy, or they might want to see their neighbors, or get the exersize of walking around the neighborhood. It is unfair to punnish all 15 and older kids for what a few teens have done in the past.

Demon under your bed said...

I think halloween should be for all ages because its the one day of the year where you can scare some one half to death and get candy. Besides if you don't want to do it then you don't have to.

@pandanut12 I disagree with you because only a few teenagers do that dosen't mean you have to ban all of them and no offence but kids under 15 also take more then 1 piece of candy when it says take one.

Muffin Man 101 said...

I think that every one who wants to trick of treat should be allowed to. There is nothing in the law against it and it would not be fair if only one place did it. If there is nothing in the law against it then all people should be allowed to trick or treat.

Ali M. said...

I think the age limit of trick or treating should be 18 because by the time you are 18 you should be a mature adult. At 18 you officially become and adult. Another privilege of being 18 is that you are allowed to vote. If you are allowed to decide the fate of our country then, you should not be trick or treating. On the other hand, if you are younger then 18 you should enjoy and embrace your childhood, and go trick or treating. If you are 18 you should be in college and mature enough to not have to go trick or treating. But, if you are under the age of 18 you should embrace your childhood and celebrate Halloween.

Ali M. said...

I agree with you Grace S. because I think it depends on the person the age they want to stop trick or treating. Sarah G said, "For instance, some people may prefer to stop trick-or-treating at age 10 because they don't enjoy dressing up and getting candy, while others may want to trick-or-treat until they are 18, if they want to carry out the Halloween tradition." I agree with this because it is your right to decide when you stop. I probably wont stop trick or treating for a few years, but I probably will stop trick or treating before I am 18. Therefor I think it should be your decision.

Muffin Man 101 said...

I think that once people turn 16 teen they should stop trick or treating because they are to old. When you turn 16 you are allowed to drive they let you drive because you are mature.
If you are mature enough to drive then you are too old to be driving.

I think that towns don't want older kids to trick-or-treat because they cause mischief. There is something called mischief night where kids T.P and egg other people's houses. The town doesn't want kids (teenagers) vandalizing residents' houses.

I do not agree with the staement you said about," Kids should not go trick-or-treating over the age 14 because they could scare younger kids". I do not agree with this staement because i bet that the parents of the child would know if the child is mature or not to have the oppurtunity to go trick-or-treating. this shows that kids should go trick-or-treating at any age they would like

JVG412 said...

I think a good age to stop trick or treating is 18. I think this because if you go to college, you wont be a kid anymore. It would look funny if someone came to your door with a full beard, right? Being 18 signifies being an adult. So that's why I think 18 is a good age for stopping trick or treating.

Unknown said...

@CandyS.
I think that you are right. Towns want to have a good reputation and be safe so they don't want kids going out on mischief night. If kids T.P. or egg other houses, the town won't be safe and it will lower their reputation. This is bad for the town because people may move out of the town or not buy a house there because of this. So to prevent the town from banning trick-or-treating, they could just tell all the parents to watch their kids so they don't vandilize other people's property. That's why I think you are right.

I think that you should be able to trick-or-treat till whenever you want to stop because Halloween is a holiday and everybody should be able to celebrate it. We should not have to ban anyone from trick-or-treating since it is a time to have fun and get a little candy. Halloween comes once a year and there shouldn't be a limit for the age you are and whether you can trick-or-treat or not.

Logan S. said...

I disagree with JVG412 because when you are 18 and you're going to college your only fun childhood memory could be trick-or-treating and then you'll want to do it more. Another reason is because older kids might like to eat candy and scare other kids.

chocoholicdancer13 said...

I think everyone who wants to trick-or-treat should be able to because that is what Halloween is all about. I also don't think there is a certain age you should or have to stop at. Although my take on Halloween has changed over the years, (such as dressing up like a nerd rather than a Power Ranger) from being very childish to a little more mature, that night is a time to express yourself at any age. Even if you are only two years old or 20 years old, you should be able to enjoy playing 'dress-up' and going around collecting candy. I still trick-or-treat and I love going around and seeing all of the creative costumes. Even though my older brother doesn't dress up, he still walks around and gets candy. Lastly, I think that towns want to ban older kids from going out on Halloween because they can cause mischief.

chocoholicdancer13 said...

@Logan S., I completely agree with you because Halloween is technically a holiday and holidays should be celebrated by anyone who wishes to celebrate them. No one should be banned because of their age and there should not be a limit because Halloween was meant for people of any age to get a little candy.

whencupcakesattack said...

I really think that anyone who wants to trick-or-treat can. I believe that there is no age limit to go trick-or-treating. I know most adults like to go with their children and older siblings still like to go. So I think that no one should think that they are too old for something like celebrating a holiday, especially if they want candy!

whencupcakesattack said...

@ Logan S. I agree with you. I think that since Halloween only comes once a year, I think that people (even if they are older) should still go trick-or-treating especially because they only have one chance. I think if they really want to go, then they should since it's a once a year chance.

Ryan said...

I thonk a good age to stop is whenever you feel like it. The costumes are jjust there because the little kids love them. The candy os the main reason people trick or treat. If you love candy then you should be able to trick or treat beacause they shouldnt be able to take away your love for candy.

RyanT. said...

I personally think that a good age to stop trick-or-treating is ... never. This is because people of all ages LOVE to trick-or-treat. I guarantee you that 10 out of 10 people absolutely LOVE Halloween and trick-or-treating. Everybody loves trick-or-treating and I think that it should stay that way.

RyanT. said...

@ Ryan

I agree. This is because most of the things like the costumes and decorations are for the little kids. But if you love candy then you could still go trick-or-treating. i know that I'm NEVER going to stop trick-or-treating because I truly LOVE candy and that can never be taken away from me. But if other people think that they are too old for trick-or-treating then they can stop. That is why I agree with you saying that a good age to stop trick-or-treating is whenever you feel like it.

m&m16 said...

I think trick-or-treating should be allowed for all ages because it is a way have fun and be with friends. On Halloween I go to a party with my friends, but we still go trick-or-treating, and there are many older kids around too. We always have fun coming up with funny, creative costumes to wear. There isn’t an age limit for trick-or-treating and it doesn’t matter how old you are to have fun, so there shouldn’t be one.

m&m16 said...

@chocoholicdancer13, I don't agree with you when you said that towns should ban older kids from trick-or-treating because they could cause mischief because that’s what they would do on mischief night not trick-or-treating. The night before Halloween (mischief night) is when all the teenagers disrupt people’s houses, so you might have meant that night should be banned. But trick-or-treating is just kids dressing up to collect candy so everyone should be allowed to do that.

chocoholicdancer13 said...

@m&m16, what I said was that I think towns want to ban older kids because they cause mischief, not that they should be banned. Sorry if that was confusing to you.

DougRedsox said...

I think trick or treating should be illegal for teens and older. I think this because at Halloween too much bad activity happens. Also Younger children can be scared by older people walking around. Therefore I think that some people should be doing more productive or any other activity instead of going house to house taking candy that should be for younger children. If you want candy so bad just use your own money to buy candy at any supermarket!

Isabelle G. said...

I honestly don't think trick or treating should be banned for teens because I don't think that action is necessary. Teenagers don't go trick or treating that often. I know I would rather go to a halloween party than trick or treating. Also it would be hard to in force that rule. Cops aren't going to really patrol the streets on halloween and ask every kid if they are a teen. Also how are they even going to know if they are teens because kids that age don't have I.D. If anything cops can institute a curfew. The ban could keep kids of streets buy 10 o`clock. If you instituted a curfew rather than a ban I think everybody would be much more happy and it would be much more easier.

Trick-or-treating I find to be suitable for anyone of any age as long as you are dressed up. I believe this because anyone who expects candy when they are not dressed up are cheating the candy givers. I believe this because buying a costume basically is your way of entertaining the people who are willingly paying to give you candy. This is only fair to the people paying to give people unnecessary amounts of sugar candies.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the first comment, Brian C's because all kids all ages should have the right to trick-or-treat. I think this because -quoting him- " that is what Halloween is most famous for." This statement is absolutely correct because that is what the Halloween we have known is all about, to have fun by getting free candy, dressing up in the best costume, and being with friends and family. All people are allowed to get dressed up and have fun so why are they not allowed to trick-or-treat? (besides many adults do not go out for Halloween anyway) So therefore, any person should be able to trick-or-treat regardless of your age.

As I have grown older, my perspective on holiday traditions has changed because I realize the best part of the holiday being celebrated. An example is my perspective on Christmas. When I was younger, I thought Christmas was all about presents. Now I realize that it's about being with your loved ones, and being surrounded by those who care for you. Another example is my opinion on Halloween. I used to love it only for the candy, now I just want to have a good time with my friends. It doesn't matter to me if I get candy or not, as long as I got to hang out with my friends and have fun. These examples show how my perspective has changed because it tells how I used to feel and how I feel now.

Hayley M. said...

@Lauren, I agree with you that there shouldn't be an age limit for trick-or-treating because its a good memory. Every year around Halloween kids remember what they did the year before for Halloween and it brings a smile to their face. Age limits would just put an end to the memories. It would be taking away a person's childhood!

I disagree because there are teens who want to trick-or-treat and not just to teepee houses. I think that a teenager who wants to wear his/her favorite costume and get a whole bunch of candy should be allowed to do so.

My siblings and I do still go trick or treating. I feel like trick or treating isn't as much fun anymore because I've grown older. Towns might want to ban older kids from trick or treating because it's more fun for younger children to experience the holiday, and the kids that are older are taking candy from houses that give the younger kids less candy to take. I think a good age to stop trick or treating is probably 13 because that is when you officialy turn into a teenager, and are no longer a child/kid.

marktex5025 said...

I agree that I don't think Christmas is all about presents anymore. When I was younger, the truth is, the reason I couldn't fall asleep was because I couldn't wait to open presents in the morning. Therefore, Christmas isn't all about presents, which was what I believed when I was younger.

I think that people of all ages should trick or treat, and they can't be stopped. Trick or treating is just a time to run around and have fun for an hour or two. Halloween is one of the best holidays of the year, and everyone should be able to enjoy it.

I agree with you. I love to dress up as some charecter from a movie or game because it's just a way to have fun. If somebody said I couldn't go trick or treating, I'd laugh at them and decline the offer. The people of the U.S should be able to decide for themselves weather they want to trick or treat.
