I think that music has more effect on people because it is easier to understand thereby it is heard around the world and understood by everyone, not just people who like poetry. For example you can ask about everyone in our school what the top ten music hits are today and their meaning within moments notice but if you ask them about a poem's theme they'll need a few minutes to find it in the poem. Therefore, people understand music better then poems.

Colleen O said...

I agree with Kishan, I think that music influences people more than poetry does becasue more poeple listen to music then poetry. I definitely here more poeple talk about songs or talk the way people in songs do than I hear people talk about poetry.

I agree, Music has a better effect on people because these days, more people listen to music than poetry. For example, there are ipods, concerts, radios etc. where people can listen to their favorite songs. Most people do not sit and read a book of poetry. Therefore, because in this generation there is more access to music and it is more popular, it has a greater effect on people than poetry. Also, music is like poetry (people can relate to it) but more entertaining.

I think it would be music because there are more people who listen to music than poetry, but alot of the music people listen to now-a-days has a very negative impact on them while poetry doesn't, but anyways music by far has a greater impact on people than poetry.

I think music has a greater effect on people because more people listen to music than read poetry. Also the meaning of the poem is hard to find hill music has its meaning said. That’s why I think music has a greater effect on people.

I think both music and poetry have an effect on people but if I had to choose I would say music. I think people find more pleasure listening to music than poetry. Also people listen to music a lot more often than poetry. If people read poetry as much as they listened to music, this would be a different scenario but I think music because, overall, people find more pleasure in it.

I honestly think that it depends on the group of people you are talking about because it is a lot more likely for teenagers to listen to music and for older, more mature people to turn to poetry. I think the younger age group is more influenced by music because we are all surrounded by the radio, ipods, and the internet so music is a lot more accessible for us to turn to. However, at the same time, those who are older and really enjoy literature would obviously prefer poetry rather than whatever is playing on the radio. Therefore, the answer to this question varies, those who are teenagers are more likely to turn to music for influence, while older and more mature people can very likely prefer poetry instead.

I think that music and poetry both have a big effect on people, but I think music has a bigger effect because more people will listen to music than read poems. Listening to music is one of my favorite things and i liten to my favorite bands every day, but I had not read a poem at all this year until Mr. Horvath started the unit. Therefore, many more people will listen to music than read poetry so I think music has a bigger effect.

I think music has the greatest effect because everyone listens to it. All people listen do different types of music and the music they listen to effects their personality a lot. for example, people who are red necks listen more to country music while in the middle of a city tend to listen more to rapping music. Also there are not many people who go to poetry slams every week so it does not effect 1 out of 500 people but like kami said, it depends on who you are with. Therefore, since everyone listens to music and no one goes to poetry slams music effects people more than poetry.

I think that music has a bigger effect on people. More people listen to music than poetry and a lot of the time people can relate to the lyrics in the song. As Joey said it is harder to find the meaning in a poem. It is a lot easier to find the meaning in music because singers don't really have a lot of symbolism in songs. The meaning is usually obvious.

I think music has a greater impact on people because more people listen to music rather than read poetry. If more people would read poetry, then it would have a bigger impact, but they don't so it doesn't. Therefore, music has a greater impact on peoples' lives than poetry does.

tyler s said...

I think music has a greater impact because in music, there is more things happening like tunes and other things where poetry is only letter on a page. Therfore, music has a greater impact than poetry.

I think music has a greater effect on people because a lot more people listen to music than read poetry. Also, music is easier to understand while poetry can sometimes be confusing. Therefore, music has a greater impact on people.

Abby said...

I actually think that music has a bigger influence on people because there are so many different types and genres of music being exposed to the world, that more and more people are listening to and being able to relate to it. For example, there are no doubt a lot more singers/music artists than poets today. I think that back early in the day, it used to be the opposite, but now since there are so many new artists, it has a greater impact. Therefore, poetry doesn't have the greater effect on people in my opinion.

Nicole Y. said...

Well, I don't really read much poetry outside of school, so this isn't really a good argument for me. ANYWAY, music has effected my life the most. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to music as I'm typing this. No matter what, I can listen to a song when my friends could care less about what has been bugging me lately. It will ALWAYS have my back. I can't go a day without my iPod. That sounds pathetic, but it is true. Therefore, without music, I can't function.

i would say music has a greater effect on people than poetry. i would say this because more people listen to music then they do poems. music also has a certain tune that helps people get the song stuck in their head. therefore music has a greater affect than poetry because music is more popular and because it is easier to remember

emily Fry said...

I think that music has a greater effect on people rather than poetry, because it is more common to hear a song everyday than to hear a poem everyday. Also, the rhythm and instrumentals in music seem to make it easier to remember, and repeat where as poetry doesn't typically come with background noise, and you typically read it yourself. Therefore, music has a greater effect on us than poetry.

mike d said...

Music has a greater effect on poepl because it is heard in your everyday life. It is also easier to remember songs than poetry because you hear them everyday and with poetry you do not so it is a harder to remember. Therefore, poetry has a greater effect on people.

George A said...

Music has a massive effect on people over poetry. This is because you hear music way more often. For example, you hear music all the time on the bus/car because of the radio. People are always singing songs in the halls. But, most people only focus on poetry in LA class like me. Therefore, music is heard and appreciated way more than poetry. You always see people trying to imitate singers, not poets in their clothes and talk.

stevef said...

I think that song have a greater effect on pepole because more pepole listen to music and they listen closer to music than a poem

gaby said...

i think that music influences people more than poetry does because most people listen to music everyday and not a lot of b people read poetry daily. For example music is every where in the car, on TV, On the computer, even in an elevator. Music is all around us and it is more common for someone to hear music tha read peotry. therefore it has a bigger influence.

Kelly said...

I think it completely depends on the person. Some people are really into music and listen to it every single day. For some people, music is their "happy place" that speaks to them in a special way. However, there are people out there who have a deep love for poetry as well. People write and read poems all the time if they truly love doing it. Therefore, I think it depends whether music or poetry will have an effect on one person. Some people would hands down choose music, while others would choose poetry.

jenny said...

I think that people interpret music and poetry in their own way. I, for one, prefer music becuase I like to rock out to it and sing to eat, while all the while connecting to it. However, if people don't like music and rhythems and stuff like that, then they probably like poetry better. So for me, music impacts me more.

jess c. said...

I think music is more effective on people because the rhythm created by the instruments make it more memorable. For example on friday in class we listened to poetry but i couldn't recall the ones that Luke did not play music with because remember the sound of the music helps bring bck the words. Therefore music is more effective on people because it is easier to remember.

Anna M said...

I think that music has a greater effect on people because besides the lyrics, there is also the music. Adding the music along with meaningful words, usually does have a greater effect on us. For example, if you heard someone sing lyrics to a sad song without the music, it wouldn't have much of an effect on you. However if then suddenly added in sad sounding music, the song would have a much deeper meaning.

Caroline W said...

I think that music has a greater impact on people's daily lives. We hear it every day, its kind of hard to avoid. But the lyrics really speak to people and they feel that they can relate to what the artist tis singing about. I know a lot of people who would go to songs for advice rather than people. Also, people like the sound of music in general.
Poetry on the other hand is very different. I don't know anyone who reads poetry for the sake of reading it. Furthermore, people don't feel that they can connect to poetry as easily. Therefore, music has a greater effect on people's lives.

ConnorB said...

I think that music has a bigger effect on people than poetry. I think this because music is much easier to understand and more people listen to music than read poems so people can undersant it better because they listen to it alot. Therefore music has a bigger effect on people than poetry.

Maren said...

I think music could have a greater effect on people, but doesnt always. Poetry on the other hand, always effects people who read it. I think this because even though way less people are into poetry, those who are always decipher the meaning. People who listen to music, on the other hand, dont always. So because of this, I cant really say which gives more meaning. Music could if everybody cared about what it was saying, but not everybody does.

AdamV said...

I think that music has a grater effect on people because it is broadcasted to broader audience. Music is broadcasted over the radio. Millions of people listen to the radio every day. Even though millions of people may read poetry daily there are not the amount of portable poetry devices as there are of portable music devices. Music has a greater effect on people because of the amount of people that listen to it. Therefore music has a greater effect on people than poetry.

Lions44 said...

I think poems and music have the same amount of effect on people becuase in both forms you can express emotion, have fun, and can send positive messages to people. This is why i think that poems and music have the same effect on people.

Rockelle V said...

I think music has more of an effect on people. this is because everybody loves and has to liisten to music at least once a week because we hear it all over. and usually people memorize music lyrics and listen to the words that the artist is saying and pays attention to thhem. they can figure out what the lyrics mean because they are really into the song. but for poetry everybody says it is boring and can not get into or understand the poetry enough to appreciate it to understand it.since kids are alot more familiar to music than poetry they will interpret lyrics more.

Nick.F said...

I think music has the most effect on people because music has more of a beat or intresting sound to it.For example a rap song with no beat is just poetry and it boring but a rap song with a beat its intresting and makes people want to listen to it.Therefore music has the most effect on poeple because its intresting.

mromes said...

I think music has the most effect on people because it is more popular. So many more people listen to music than read poetry. More people listen to music all around the world and poetry is not even close to the same amount of people. Therefore, music has the most effect on people.

Ted said...

I think music has a greater effect of people than poetry because every listens to music. Whether it be classical, rock, or jazz, everyone listens to music. Everybody who has a car has a radio. Most bedside clocks double as a radio. Music is everywhere and almost everyone listens to one type or another. Therefore, I think music influences more people because it is everywhere.

Julia S said...

I definetly think that music has a greater effect on people than poetry does. I agree woth Ted because everone listens to music in their car, and bedside clocks have radios in them. For example, every morning I wake up to my iPod. Also, everyone listenes to music, but not everyone reads poetry. Whenever I go over my little cousin's house, they are always singing a song, but they never recite poetry. Therefore, music has a greater influence on us because everyone of all ages listens to it.

Kaitlyn O. said...

I think that music has much more of an affect on people than poetry does. This is because people can really relate to the lyrics in songs, some lyrics are really meaningful to people. Music is fun to listen to and it's what people do in their spare time and its what people do for fun. People would much rather listen to music then have to read poetry. Therefore, I think that music has a greater affect on people because people can relate to music more than poetry.

AJ P said...

I think music has the most effect on people because music is easier to understand. For example when i listen to poetry it is hard for me to understand, but when i listen to songs i know exactly what the song is trying to tell me, since it is actually telling in a song, while in poetry people have to actually think about what the author is trying to tell you.
Therefore people are affected more by songs than poetry.

Georginax82 said...

I think music has the most affect on people. I think this because people listen to music more than they read. Therefore, music would have a greater impact because if someone wanted to get a message out to people it would be easier because everyone listens to music rather than reading so it would be easier understand what the artist is trying to say because they're portraying it in a way that more people would take in.

katie sebben said...

i think music has the most affect on people because people actually listen to music and poeple only listen and hear poetry when there at a poetry place and at school. for example people only go to the poerty places to listen to them or kids have to listen to poetry in class when they are on the topic of poetry. and everyone listens to music everysingle day. like when they go in the car, on youtube and etc. therefore, i think music affects peoples life more than poetry.

Jenna C said...

I think music has a greater impact on people only because we hear it everyday. we listen to music in the car, at home and sometimes even in school, but most of the time we only hear poems in school. therefore i think music has a greater impact because it is more a part of are everyday lives.

Shelby said...

I think music has a greater impact on us because most poeple dont go home and read poetry. People usually listen to music alot everyday and some people really listen to the words that have a greater value then what we hear. Songs usually have a good reason in it, and its easier to understand then poems sometimes.

Luke R said...

I think music has a greater impact because music not only effects people with its lyrics, but with its instrumentation. Music is listened to everywhere everyday and it effects people all over the world. Back in the 1980's heavy metal music was thought to be satanic because it influenced some kids so much that they committed suicide or murder.

dave said...

I think music is more influential on people because more people will enjoy it and bother listening or reading it then if it was a poem. Some songs are just poetry put to music. Those songs have all the good qualities of poetry plus the qualities of music. Therefore Music that has poetic lyrics is more influential than plain old poetry

grace said...

Music to me has a greater effect on humans rather than poetry by far. During a regular day almost everyone listens to their ipod and might sing along to a word and try to figure out the meaning later on. Especially if the melody is catchy and the song stays in the person's head. While on the other hand, the only time I read poetry is and was in Mr. Horvath's class and I doubt people think about poetry all day. Therefore, having music in daily life makes it have a greater effect on humans than poetry does.

Nick Z said...

i think that it depends on the person, because for some people, poetry has a greater effect and for others, music has a greater effect. Personally, music has a greater effect on me because i listen to it so often and there's so many different styles of music to listen to. Therefore, because there are so many styles of music, music has the greater effect on me.

Billy P said...

I think music is more influential on people because more people listen to music and not poetry. Modern rappers today talk about doing drugs, failing school, and partying. Some people are stupid enough to listen to these artists and they go out and do drugs. This would be an example where music is a bad influnece on people. music definantly affects more people than poems.

lily said...

I think both poetry and songs have an greater effect on people depending on the person or their mood. For example, some people dislike reading and love music, therefore, music would have the greatest effect on those people. Therefore, different people have different personalities and different likes and dislikes, so music and poetry would have a greater effect depending on the person.

KaylaP. said...

I think that music has a greater effect on people because I feel that more people can connect their life to song lyrics than to a poem. When I listen to songs, I usually think to myself, "this connects to my life so well." Then when I read a poem, I can't really connect to the poem as well to song lyrics. Also, I feel that more artists write songs that connect to their life and other people's life. Therefore, music can connect to people's life and when people listen to a song, they can connect well with their life and actually start to like the song.

Bino R said...

I think poems may be deeper than most songs and have a better meaning, but over all more songs have a impact on me the poems do

Ryan T. said...

I think that they have an equal effect on people. This is because a song can be considered a poem and a poem can be considered a song. Since they are both the same thing, I believe that it is safe to think that they will have an equal effect on people

Ryan T. said...

@ Bino R

I agree. When I listen to a song it leaves an imprint on me. I reflect on the words. A song has a beat that you can understand. Even though a poem can make you be very emotional, I overall think that a song has more of an impact on me.
