Classic or SOOO Yesterday?

submitted by No-nickname Jessica C. - Many of us have tried to read a "classic" novel and hated it.  Some people say it is because the language and writing is hard to comprehend.  Other people say that it is hard to relate to the characters because their lives are so different from ours.  Have you tried a classic?  What do you think?  Will you try to read one in the future?

Lets see....I'm pretty much okay with most classics. (not that I've read many) with the exception of Huckleberry Finn. Worst. Book. Ever. I hated it. It's like Mark Twain wrote it to make people suffer. But other than that one book classics are okay.

I usually dislike classics because they Are hard to understand and I find the stories boring. However, I like reading something different once and awhile instead of the same modern day writing. For example, This year, I just started reading classics like huckleberry Finn, journey to the center of the earth, and to kill a mockingbird. Most of them weren't my favorite books but I was glad I read them to change what I normally read and to be exposed to that kind of writing.

I don't really like classics because they are hard to understand and not very easy to relate to. For example, the authors write in a very difficult to understand style of words which just confuses the reader. Also, since thier life style wasnt they same as ours, you can't really connect to any of the characters. Therefore, because they are hard to understand and not relateable, i don't like classics.

I dont like classics because the writing style is completely different and it's a lot harder to comprehend. The authors use a lot of words and sayings that i've never heard of before in my life, which makes it very difficult to read. Therefpre, because the writing style is different and it's a lot harder to comprehend, i don't like classic books.

For me, it depends on the classic. Some, like Huckleberry Finn, aren't horrible, and have a good storyline, but have dialects that are sometimes hard to understand. However, I didn't like Frankenstein, because the language was a lot more different, and the words used were different. Not all books are written the same way, so some classics aren't that bad.

I have not read many classics, but I am glad that I read most of them. I think it is interesting to learn about different lifestyles, but the dialects can be really annoying, which makes me read the book more slowly. Classic books can have great story lines, and they are usually better than some newer books like "Witch and Wizard", or "Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex". On another note, I warn you not to read these books. Oh right, therefore classics good.

I do not like classics only because of the words and phrases they use. I find it difficult to read because I am so adjusted to the present day "slang" that we use. I think that if people today still used the words and phrases that they did back then, then I think that we would be well adjusted to how they spoke back then and classics will just seem like the good books we have today. Therefore, classics would be interesting to read if people could understand the words and phrases they use.

I don't read many classic books, but for the ones that I have read, I don’t like then because I don’t understand them. It might be because they were written in a different time or maybe the words, I am not sure. For example, I read Huckleberry Finn and I didn’t get the book nor did I like it. So it might be those two reasons or that I am just not into those kinds of books so I don’t pay attention to them.
