Everybody Roots for the Underdog

submitted by George - We have all read or heard of a story where the underdog wins.  My question to you is, "What is your favorite Cinderella story?"  It can be from sports/film/the stage/books etc.

By Cinderella do you mean, like a person who has absoluted nothing turns into someone that has everything? If so, i have a story that is exact opposite that might bring up questions. In my book Beastly, Kyle is a boy who has everything he wants, when hes mean to people a witch puts a curse on him that turns him into an ugly beast, the only way to break the curse is to find love, and get the kiss, he has two years. Over the two years he loses all his friends, his dad, his money, and of course his freedom, it helps him realize how cruel he was before and helps him be someone who is kind. It is the exact opposite of a "Cinderella" story.

Actualy...last night I saw "Cinderella story" type of movie. (Meaning it was about the underdog who eventually overcomes the big challenges ahead of him)It was the Summer Wars. Not many people have probably heard of it because its Japanese, but it was about a nerdy little boy who finally learns to gather courage & save the day! (With some help) It was pretty much your typical cliché underdog story, but overall it was very good so I would have to say that it is my favourite "Underdog" story.

Yes I do, a week ago the last place team in the NBA (Cavs) won to one of the best teams (Lakers). This was my "favorite Cinderella story", because everyone was expecting the lakers to blowout the cavs and win by like 20 or 30 points but what actually happened was that the cavs were the "underdog" of the game and ended up winning. Therefore this was my favorite "Cinderella story" .

My favorite underdog story is a movie called Wild Thing. It is about a group of less than impressive mjor league baseball players who can barely play and get along. They have to learn to come together and overcome their differences in order to beat the league leading Yankees. Needless to say the rag tag team beats the yankees in true underdog fashion. Therefore it was my favorite underdog story because they not only overcame the yankees but also themselves.

I think it would have to be St. Vincent-Marrys when they lost natinal championship and then came back the next year determined and ready and won natinals

A Cinderella story that I remember was in 2006 when George Mason made the NCAA Tournament as a number 11 seed and ended up in the final four after beating defending national champions North Carolina and number 1 seed UConn.

A great cinderella story would have to the Boston Red Sox in 2004 because they came back in a playoff series against all ods and won. Boston was down to the yankees three games to none and the red sox came back to win the last four games. They went on to win the world series. Therefore, the 2004 Boston team is the best cinderella story iv'e ever seen.

My favorite Cinderella story had to be the Fab Five of Michigan in 1992 where Michigan made it to the final of the NCAA tournament. It is my favorite Cinderella story because Michigan is my favorite college and how they got to the championship was amazing since they did it with five freshman starting. Therefore the Fab Five were a great Cinderella story

I know most people don't follow hockey but I like the story of the 2006 Edmonton Oilers. They made the playoffs in one of the last days of the season, beating out my favorite team the Canucks for the #8 seed. Then, they upset the dynasty #1 seed Detroit Red Wings. They went all the way to the championship, only to lose in game 7 to Carolina. But, I still think its a great story because it shows that you don't have to be the best in the regular season to step up and win where it matters.

My favorite underdog story is when the Patriots beat the Rams in the Superbowl in 2002. I liked this because the Rams were the favored team by a lot, and the Patriots ended up winning. This showed that you always have to try even when your the underdog.
