Pro Athletes
submitted by Tyler W - In case you didn't know, most professional atheletes make more than every teacher. The minimum salary for the NFL is 300,000 and the NBA's veteran's minimum is 1.16 million. These both are much more than an everyday teacher's salary. Do you think the pros deserve it? They basically play a game for a living, while teachers affect the lives of everyone who ever had to go to school. Which job is more valuable?

I think teachers jobs are more valuable than the pros because teachers affect our lives and give us the tools for our future. Teachers come to school and teach us students the knowledge we need to succeed in life. Therefore, teachers jobs are more valuable than pro athletes.
I think that teachers jobs are more valuable than pros because teachers actualy give students tools to succeed. An example of this would be in math where they teach you add distion subtraction and multiplaction and you can you can use to add your bills together later on in life.Therefore this shows that teachers jobs are more important
Teachers should be getting the pay that pro sport players get and the sports players should be getting the teachers pay. Teachers have so much more that they have to do and deal with. The sports players are already doing something that they must love so why should they be getting paid millions for it? Teachers educate our world and sports players just play for entertainment. An education matters much more in life then a silly sports game does.
I think that teachers jobs are more important because they are used more often. An average teacher probably goes to 175 days a year of work or so, while collecting less than 100k. On the other hand, an NFL duster can earn 300,000 from sitting on the bench for 16 games. Therefore,teachers get paid less and do way more work. They also influence America nad I think that some atletes do not deserve the money that get like A-Rod, Lebron or Dipietro.
I believe that teaches should make more money the professional sport players because teacher educate us and sport players play something they love for entertainment. For example, teachers teach you so you can succeed later in life. Therefore teachers should make more money than professional sport players.
I think the tteachers should not get paid more money because they are paid to teach us and they should get paid a normal sallery
This is a no brainer for me. Teachers deserve more money than professional players because professional sports players just run, shoot, and other things that are necisary for sports. On the other hand, teachers sit at a desk all day doing things that affect the life of others. I'm not saying teachers all together should get more than sports players, but defenatley more than they are getting right now.
I think that a teacher is more important because none of the pro athletes would have made the professional league without teachers. Most youth and high school teams require certain grades for the athlete to participate on the team. If the athlete doesn't have sufficient grades they cannot play. Also, certain grades are required to get into the colleges that these professional athletes went too. Therefore, teachers are more important because the professionals owe there success to them.
I think that teachers jobs are more valuable than pros because teachers actualy give students the education to suceed. For example, in high school, you learn how to hanlde money when you grow up. This would be a tool to suceed later in life. Therefore,I think a teachers job is more valuable
Teachers by far have a more valuable job then pro athletes. I think this because teachers are affecting kids’ life everyday by helping them learn and get a good education. All that pro athletes do is play games and have fun. Yes they do entertain people but, they aren’t doing as much work as teachers. Teachers have a big responsibility and have much more stress. Therefore, teachers should have bigger salary then pro athletes. Teachers have more responsibilities and deserve it. That was a great question Tyler! :)
i think teachers should be paid more money because they actually make a difference in kids' lives acedemically by teaching students things that they need to know for the future. pro athletes dont do anything important but play a sport they love and get paid for it. teachers work alot harder than they do. therefore, teachers deserve to be paid just as much as pro athletes do
I think that teachers should earn more money. I think this because teachers effect what a student can be when he or she grows up therefore affecting a child's future in a good way. I think that pro athletes do not deserve nearly as much money as teachers.
I think teaching jobs are more valuable because they teach kids to become succsesful later on in their life. For example, teachers teach kids how to read and write, so they can grow up to have good jobs. If kids can't read, then they will grow up jobless. I definitely think that teachers should get payed more money than athletes because they help to make what our future is going to be. For example, teachers teach us what we will need to know later in life so we can be successful, while atheletes just put on a show and try to entertain us. Therefore teachers should get the higher salaries and athletes the lower because they are more significant to society.
Well it all depends on how you thinking about it. Yeah pro athletes get paid for playing a sport but in order to do this you can’t just be able to make a basket or make a touchdown. These people have serious talent. While the job of a teacher is to help kids learn but it can’t be that complicated. As Horvath has said "it doesn’t take much to be a teacher, anyone can do it as long as they know more than the person their teaching." Overall, each job is special and important in its own way.
It is obvious to me that teachers should be getting payed more than professional athletes because their job is so much more crucial to our world today! While teachers are giving an education to the future leaders of our world, pro athletes are just playing silly games! For example, Mr. Horvath is teaching us how to be phenomonal writers when all Tom Brady is doing is playing a game of football with his friends. Therefore, a teacher's job is of much more importance than the job of an athlete.
I think that a teacher would be more deserving because they affect more lives than professional athletes do. Teachers talk with, help, and teach up to 100 kids a day. And if they teach for, say, ten years then they would've taught 1000 kids. It can drastically change the lives' of the students too. So because teachers can affect more lives' than professional athletes can, i think that they are more deserving.
The teacher deservers to be paid more because they are more valuable to society than sports players are. Teachers are in charge of educating the next generation of Americans while sports players just entertain people which is not necessiary to peoples' futures. Teachers play one of the most important roles in a childs life. They influence their choices and decisions only second to the childs family. Sports players can be iconic to kids but in the end most kids will not even grow up to be a sports player. I think that teachers jobs are important. First of all, it takes at least 4 years of hard work and money to become a teacher, and after that, they start off getting paid very little. Also, they are always bugged by the normal low buget schols, and budget cuts, so they might have to cut a teacher. Over all it is more strtessful, and hard to be a teacher.
Pro athletes should not get paid as much as they do. Us as kids play the same sport yet we hav to pay anywhere from $40 to $2000 in order for us to play a sport. While athletes get paid from $1000-$26 million a year. I think this is way to much money to get paid for playing a sport you love (or don't love). Teachers get paid barely $75000 a year (if that) and they are making a difference in peoples' lives. Therefore teachers should get paid more than pro athletes.
I beleive that teaching is a more valuble job than teaching because teachers actually make differences in kids lifes, unlike pro athletes that just play the game that they love. Therefore pro athletes should be payed as much as teachers.

Yes, I agree with the common response to this topic, that teachers are more valuble/deserve better than professional athletes. This is because they effect many lives. They effect kids lives every day by teaching them not only booksmarts but streetsmarts. Therefore, teachers should get more than they receive. However, I will give the athletes some credit. They don't just waste all of their money on mansions and diamonds. I'm pretty sure the majority of successful professional athletes donate a lot of their money to charities. So before we point out the athletes as the bad guys, keep note that they do good things too.

An athlete is an everyday person with a very good skill. They play a game and entertain people. They barely put in any effort because they are already good at the sport. Therefore, a teacher's job is more valuable because they can give kids the motivation to be really smart.

Even though everyone else says a teacher is more valuable, I think that both are equal because of what I think they do to our lives. Teachers, as everyone knows, help us get an education. Being smart is helpful is modern society, so teachers are strongly needed. However, athletes help our lives, too. They literally risk their health and condition to entertain millions of people who are interested in the sport, including me. Fans who love the pros would love the sport they play, fixing the popular topic about childhood obesity. So, each position aids our lives, so neither is less valuable than the other.
I think teachers should be paid more than pro athletes. Professionals use their skill to play a sport that they have their whole lives and know very well. They are paid too much. on the other hand, teachers help out kids by giving them an education. An education leads to a job and a good life ahead of you. There is no doubt that teachers have a more valuable job then people who play sports because a teacher helps a kid grow up and make a living. This doesn't happen with sport players because all they do is play so that you can watch for entertainment. I agree with what everyone has been saying. If you think about it, teachers do much more for students by giving them a full education to succeed the rest of their life. Sports players play a game they like and get payed for it. For example, a teacher teaches a student how to read, and write, the essentials for the future. You also learn math, science, and history. Teachers give a student the essential education needed. Sports players simply train for, practice, and play for a sport. Teachers are doing a whole lot more, therefore they should be paid more as well.
