Facebook Creeping

submitted by Jordan - What do you think about teachers/administrators looking at your facebook, twitter or myspace?  Is it an invasion of privacy?

It could be, but not really. Everyone can see your facebook page or atleast your profile picture. If teachers looked at your Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace it would probably be more awkward. Your teachers are looking at your page with everything on it. Maybe you don't care. But with the invasion of privacy, it could go both ways.

i have computers currently so this would have the same answers as that:

1) i would say it would be weird taht a teacher/administrator is looking at my posted items on the internet like comments, pictures, status, etc(i do not put any of those things on the internet unless its made with pixils on pain or photo shop or pain.net [like paint but is a mix between paint and photoshop]) even oneperson was able to be tracked by what they said online.

2)all of this is not invasion of privicy because you put it online and its now a public domain ANYONE can see it even how privet it is! Its like putting a video on facebook. Mr. Stevens, Head of Tech Ed in our state (for safety reasons not to say where) , says that one person posted a video on youtube where it showed them in their high school (for safety reasons not to say where) and were servearly punished. Plus companies and collages both look on these web sites to see how they act and would see if they are the right person to be in their school or company. Therefore it is not an invasion of privacy.

I would say that it's really awkward if a teacher looks at your Facebook because it is honestly no ones business but your own, but if you have an issue that is serious than thats a different story. But otherwise, teachers just randomly look at your Facebook account is an invasion of privacy

I agree with Bri and Steve when they say it is really awkward and weird for teachers to look at your Facebook. I think this because there could be things on it that you wouldn't want your teachers to know. For example, your friends, things about yourself, etc. Therefore, I believe that no teacher should creep on your facebook, twitter, or myspace.

I am sure a teacher has probably searched a student on facebook before but it is a very weird thought to think of. Of course our teachers see us act around them during the school during the day but to know where we hangout and how we communicate online is a disturbing thought. When I put information on the internet it is meant for my friends but I put it out there so technically it is not an invasion of privacy. I openly put it on the web to be able to access. Therefore the teachers have the right but i hope they would never feel the need to.

I think that is a bit of an invasion of privacy. but at the same time we are the ones to put it out there. If there was something that we didn't want anyone to see then why would we put it on the internet? I know that we would get in trouble if we were to creep on a teacher's facebook. So it doesn't make sense that they can creep on ours I mean, they put it on the internet; technically we can see it if we want to.

I think that if they are suspicious of you doing something than it is fine because they need to find out if you need a consequence for your actions. For example, if an administrator thinks that you have cyber bullied or done anything of that nature, they should be able to look at your information because you need a punishment for whatever you have done. However, if they are just creeping to creep than that is invasion because they have against you to look for. Therefore, I think if a teacher/ administrator has a reason to "creep" than it is not an invasion of privacy.

It may be weird or awkward, but when you put a picture on Facebook, your putting your picture onto the public web. Anyone could look at your pictures. For example, most business employers and college administers look at people's Facebooks.

First of all if you are smart, then you have your facebook account set so that someone who isn't friends with you cannot see absolutely anything about you. Second of all, my mother is a teacher and i'm pretty sure she never creeps on her students. No offense but she could care less. Actually, she's been friend requested by a handful of her students from previous years, and she obviously doesn't accept it because that would just be plain weird.

I agree with briana, it is unnessicarry for a teacher or administrator to look at your online profile. It is awkward because we post personal stuff, meant for our friends and peers to see. I could see if they were tryinng to teach us a lesson, which they have, but just "creeping" is unnessicary. For example, i was talking to a girl on my buss who was going to delete their facebook page because a teacher said that they did not like what she said on her page. This is a very awkward situation and does not benifit anybody. A teacher would not like if i saw their facebook status about "going to happy hour at 5:30, TGIF!!" For a propper workplace to function, mutual respect is necessary, which is why we wouldnt have a good workplace if teachers saw our profile, but we can not see theirs. Therefore, teachers should keep to themselves and not view our online pages.

I think its crazy if a teacher looks at your facebook because what if you were at a party on saturday, and the next morning you posted somthing stupid or posted a picture of you and your friends partying. It would be wierd for them to look at what you do over the weekend and or threw out the week. Also its none of their bussiness what you do. Therefore I think its invasion of privacy.

I deffinatly think it is an invasion of privacy for teachers to look at your facebook, even make a fake facebook and add you as thier friend. They have no business looking through your pictures, wallposts, or comments unless they become a problem in school. It is ridiculous of how we have no privacy and people treat us like babies. We are responsible for our actions, we dont need grown teachers acting our age on facebook just to find out what we do, what do you think we do? Really.

Ibhonestly think it dpend on the kind of things yoou put on your facebook page. If you post things you don't want peole to see then you shpould not have posted it in the first place. It is weird for a teacher to be looking at your facebook page because it makes things akward if they see something you don;t want. Therefore it really is not a invasion of privacy but its weird.

I can honestly say that there are some teachers in our school that I would not care if they looked at my Facebook or Twitter, but at the same time, I do feel like it is an invasion of privacy. Your personal life and school life should not cross, and do not need to. It isn't anyone's business but your own about what you post on Facebook or tweet about. I feel as if teachers were to see some of the stuff on Facebook it would be awkward, therefore, I would not like it if teachers went through my Facebook, but I agree with Gaby that it would be more awkward than invasion of privacy.

Yes, i do think it is an invasion of privacy. You don't need people checking up your every move on Facebook. I think people, especially administrators and other people, need to trust you and need to understand that you understand the consequences of putting up inappropriate or other things that can get you in trouble. They should trust us to do the right things and they shouldn't be so insecure to have to check our accounts.
