Taking School Seriously

Submitted by Julie - Some people don't take school seriously.  They should because when they get older they will struggle with finding a job, especially if they don't get into a college.  The choices you make when you are a teenager will impact the rest of your life.  Why do you think some people don't take school seriously when it is so important?

I feel that people don't take school seriously now because they feel that it doesn't count. But if you think about it, if you do bad in middle school your not going to have the chance to make it up. School sometimes may be fun to go to to see your friends but you also do have to work and try because if you don't it does affect you whether it's not understanding something or just getting in trouble with the grade you receive. This was a very good blog post, easy to connect with

I don't understand why they don't take it seriously, because everything counts. If in seventh you do poorly, you will be in lower classes in eigth. Then you may excell, but youd probaly not get high classes in high school. which reflects strongly in college. maybe theyre just trying to ignore the stress that that causes, or they think theyre just kids and dont need to worry about it. or maybe they havent realized how close to gradauting middle school we are. (evne though I still cant spell)

i think some people dont take school seriously because some kids (like my friend) think to themeselves it really doesnt matter what i get this year because next year is when the teachers and you should be concerned about your grades in Masuk. but thhat is not true because you should always do good in school no matter what grade you are in because teachers might use 8th grade work to look back on for placement and for college.

I honestly do not get why people don't try their best in school. I feel like if people know that school will take you far in the future, they should try their best, even if assignments are not being graded. I think that what we do in grades leading up to high school prepare us for what is expected for us in Masuk. Even though a lot of people think that grades don't matter until you get to high school, they do matter because they take your grade to place you in high school classes and that is what colleges look at. Therefore, when people don't try their best in school, they aren't hurting anyone but themself.

I think that school should be used for the edication and not for the social part.

I think that one of the reasons that people don't care about school is because we are just in middle school. From what I know, many kids just say, "Oh, it's just middle school! It doesn't even matter." However it does matter because how well you do in middle school determines the courses that you take in high school which then determines the rest of your life. Therefore, I think a lot of students just think that middle school is not a big deal; when in reality... it is.

I think people don't care about school because they think they only have to try in high school but they are wrong. If you struggle in middle school which is easier then high school how do they expect to do better in high school. Most likely they will fall behind and mess up their whole future, but if students take school serious they will do good in high school and probably get into a good college. Therefore kids should care about middle school.

I feel that some people think of school as a big joke because they like it better for socailizing rather than education purposes. For example, one of my friends had recently told me what she had got on her report card. She recived some grades that I would never have and this is because she is known for socializing more than her smarts. Some kids find school dreadful and they just go because they have to,but other kids who actually want to learn something. And I think that trying your best and putting everything out there in middle school is definetly the most important thing, especially because it's getting you ready for high school. Some kids may think "Oh, it's just high school" but really, it's just high school where you probably learn everything you'll need to be successful in college. Therefore, I believe that most people take advantage of school for its socializing purposes.

I think that some people don't take school seriously because they never really think about the future and how it will affect their life. I know this because well we all slack off sometimes and for me if I just think about how important it is to stay focused then I concentrate again. The people that slack off the whole year obviously never care to think about the future.

I think that some people do not take school seriously because they think they have their whole future figured out and they don't have the think about it anymore. That is not true. Everyone should try there best even if they know what they want to do. I think this because you need a good education to get into a good college. College helps you with getting your dream job. Without good grades, you would not be able to go to college and have that dream job. Therefore, people should think twice before slacking off and not taking school serious.

I think a lot of people just don't care. I don't know how they don't care especially if they are punished by bad grades. Another reason is that some people think it is "cool" not to try and that it is "uncool" to get good grades. I think it is wrong for people to make fun of smart people because those smart people will be the ones with bright futures. Those who slack now will have to suffer the consequences later and that is their own fault.

Yes some people do struggle with school. I myself is one of those people. At first i thought that getting good grades was not the first thing on my mind. Being cool and being the person that every one knew in school was the thing that i kept thinkig about. Through out the year i have gotten really bad grades. It did not hit me that i might fial the school year and have to stay back until the beginning of marking period 4. I got a letter from the school saying that i need a certain amount of points or credits to pass. I did not have the right amount needed at first, but by the time progress reports came around i made sure that i would have all my grades up and i did it. now all i have to do is keep them like that or bring them up higher. Julie is right in order to get a good job or to get some where in life, it all starts with grades. And now thats why i decided it was time to buckle down and get good grades.

I feel one of the reasons some people don't take school seriously is because they think that what they are going to do as a careere does not require good grades. for example some people think tht they are going to play sports for the rest if their lifs and that they are going to make money by playing sports and they don;t need school. Another example is drama, some peole think they are going to make it as stars on broadway or on t.v and they don't take school seriously because they think they don;t need it. Therefore some people goof off in school instead of trying to get good grades.
